  • Digging Through Owl Puke!

    Funded Nov 3, 2010

Thanks you so much for the funding of the our project for our 5th grade science class. You have no idea how much of an impact that this project has on the life science strand of the frameworks in order to prepare our students for the state benchmark exam. This is a project that our students will remember for the rest of their lives. The students are still talking out the activity. I did an open response question of the standards and 90% of the students scored proficient. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dean

  • New Drumline for Inner City School

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

I cannot tell you how amazing it has been seeing my students eyes when a new piece of equipment has come in for our drum line project. Not one day goes by that a student doesn't ask about when our drum line will start. Our first musical performing group at our school is coming to fruition thanks to your help.

So far, our last piece of the drum line - the two sextuplet drums - came in last week and student volunteers from a local university are coming in to help assemble and tune the drums. We will start teaching students how to play their drums next month and, hopefully, set the drum line to start rehearsing in March.

This would not be possible without you and we are very appreciative of you generosity. Thank you again for your love of music education and the leaders of tomorrow. Bless you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cotton

  • GLAM IT UP: Problematic Portable

    Funded Aug 12, 2010

We wanted to let you know that we have enjoyed GLAMMING UP our portable! The butcher paper comes in handy for creating artwork and murals for the panel walls, and the motivational posters have been a wonderful way to share positive messages. The foldable chairs are used with the kidney-shaped table (that you also fully funded), and these lightweight chairs are easy to move around the portable for group learning. You are truly amazing, and we have been blessed by your generosity and kindness. Thank you again for funding our proposals. ”

    Mrs. Vincent

  • Glam Cam: Capturing Creativity and Enhancing Learning

    Funded Aug 17, 2010

Thank you for supporting my students' "Glam Cam:  Capturing Creativity and Enhancing Learning" project!  In this project, we used a pocket video camera to become better learners.  The students loved using the pocket video camera!  I was surprised how easily the kids picked up how to use the video camera.

The pocket video camera is an invaluable resource in my classroom.  We have used the camera to record our puppet theater shows (which has been a joy for the students to watch).  The students have become quite reflective of their work, and as a result, it has improved their quality.  The video camera is a great way to give students the hands-on opportunities that really enhance and cement learning in young students.  We can and will use the pocket video camera throughout the school year, and I will be using it for years to come with future kindergarteners!  Thank you for providing many kindergarteners with the opportunity to enhance their learning in a fun, hands-on way!

The students and I are very thankful for your generosity.  The pocket video camera has greatly enriched and inspired my class, and for that, I cannot thank you enough”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. H.

  • Quill Can Deliver the Essentials

    Funded Oct 17, 2010

Everything you have so generously given to us has had such an amazing impact on our classroom.

Thank you so much for contributing to these resources! They have proved to be invaluable in our classroom! Your contribution has made a daily impact on my students' lives. The items you contributed are simply amazing... simple, yet amazing!

I don't think one fully understands the importance of a pencil until there isn't one to be used. I am thrilled that my students will not have that predicament this year. Surely they know what it's like to not have a pencil, but in our class, they won't be experiencing that. Your gift to our class has made every day run a little more smoothly.

With all of the construction paper we received, my students have been able to mat and proudly display work that they complete every day.My students are very aware that they are more fortunate than many of the students in the area. I wish there were more words to express our gratefulness.

Your generosity and dedication to education will never be forgotten.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Biehls

This is the first year that everyone in my class has had their own calculator. My previous classes had minimal experiences with a calculator. My students are very aware that they are more fortunate than many of the students in the area. I wish there were more words to express our gratefulness.

  • Help Me See Me with HP!

    Funded Sep 17, 2010

Words cannot express my gratitude to you! My students have been learning so much from this camera! Every day, a different student gets to use the video-camera. They also use the camera feature to take pictures of things throughout the day and we use those pictures as writing prompts during our literacy centers.

This tool has proved to be an invaluable hands-on resource in our classroom. Immediately after receiving the camera, we taped Social Scientists presentations. Just today, they videotaped one-another performing Social Studies skits that they wrote.

My students and I truly appreciate your contribution to your classroom. Your generosity dedication to education will resonate through all of us for years to come!

***The pictures I am including are not pictures of the students using the camera, but rather those that the students took!***”

  • Please Glam Up Our Classroom for Adam!

    Funded Aug 19, 2010

I cannot fully express my gratitude for your generous donation. I am in disbelief that so many people are passionate about music education. We recently received the iPod and my students love it. We listen to more music now than ever before! It is so simple to access songs that are relevant to our curriculum, and I don't have to waste time searching through CD's. Therefore, we have more time to listen to music, and you have also expanded the different educational genres that we can listen to. As I said before, my students are extremely motivated by music. We may never know what the full impact of the gift you have given us is, but please know that the impact you have already had is immeasurable!

    Thanks again”

  • GLAM-arize Learning with Art!

    Funded Aug 12, 2010

Thank-you so much for all of your generous donations. It is so exciting to have such wonderful art supplies for the classroom. It has added a lot of excitement to our classroom. Each Friday we try to do an art project. Art projects are great incentives and encourages the students to try harder and get their work done throughout the week.

So far we have tried basket coiling which we incorporated with our unit on American Indians. We will have to go back and try that project again. It was rather challenging for my students but they still enjoyed themselves. The baskets are going to look great when they are finished.

The students really like the Rex Lace which they weave into bracelets or key chains. The Rex Lace is my favorite art incentive for completing all their assignments throughout the week and tests on Fridays.

Last week we did sand art using tracing paper to trace fall pictures. They then applied glue and sand to the pictures to make great sand art. I think that has been my favorite so far, and theirs.

We have a huge project coming up. We will be using clay, sea shells, pebbles, sand, sandpaper, beads, and paints to create the Earth's Strata. This will be a great way for the students to learn about all the different layers of the earth and what they consist of.

I could probably go on and on and on about all the projects we are able to do this year. Thank-you so much. I am so grateful for the amazing opportunities that DonorsChoose and citizen philanthropists such as yourselves has given to classroom teachers all over the United States! This would not be possible without you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Decker

  • "Glam Up" My Classroom Music Library And We'll Idolize You!

    Funded Aug 12, 2010

Wow, it is just overwhelming to look at the list of donors who helped with this project. It doesn't matter how many projects I complete I am always amazed at the support I receive from so many wonderful people all over the country.

This project will always be a favorite of mine. As some of you might now I posted on the DC blog that the project actually helped save a tiny baby bunny at my school...how you ask? The day the Docking Station came in I opened the box and put the empty box in my car...I keep the boxes in case there is a problem and I have to ship something back. As I was leaving the parking lot I noticed a group of 6 crows going crazy. When I got closer I realized they were attacking a tiny baby bunny. I beeped my horn, but they would not stop so I got out of the car to scare them away...they still did not leave. Finally, another teacher saw what was happening and came to help me. She kept the crows at bay long enough for me to get the box out of my car. We were able to secure the tiny bunny and take it to an animal rescue...the bunny was fine and released back into the wild.

So that is the story of how Donors Choose, Adam Lambert's fans, and Celtic 7 helped my class and in the process saved a little baby bunny,

Of course the kids love the ipod docking station and listening to great music and stories. I am trying to post the photos of the kids dancing...having some difficulty so I hope they will load. I am always amazed to watch how my students can dance...one of my kids does an amazing worm! Friday my kids were walking to my portable and I heard one of them say...I always want to go to Ms. G.'s classroom it is the coolest place I have ever been. What a wonderful thing to hear a student say and it is because of all of the wonderful materials from Donors Choose.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. G.
