  • With Just a Slab of Clay , You Can Make My Student's Day !

    Funded Sep 21, 2009

Thank you very much for the donation you gave to our art program at Northwood High School. My students have created beautiful tiles using the slab roller and the glaze. The students created a large mural that hangs in the hallway. They are currently creating tiles for a bathroom project. After my trip to Morocco, I showed my students the beautiful tile art called Zellige. Students have been designing tiles to improve the look of their bathroom at school. The students have also created masks using the same glazes we received from your gift.

Thank you for funding our project.

    We appreciate your giving!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burwell

  • We Would Like a Word With You

    Funded Oct 27, 2010

I just wanted to let you know that the resources your generosity has provided for our classroom have been a huge hit!! I cannot possibly describe the excitement these kids have when they work with the picture dictionaries--you would think they had new video games in front of them with their bubbling enthusiasm. I knew they loved the older dictionaries I had, but their reactions to the new supplies has blown me away. One of their favorite things to do is sit and leaf through the dictionaries--the Oxford Picture Dictionaries are tremendous--and they can't wait to have a little bit of free time so they can look through them. It's wonderful to see.

The multitude of resources we received has spanned the varied levels of proficiencies my kids have, so there's another added bonus--I have been able to use them with every single one of my students, and will be able to do so for many years to come. I cannot reiterate enough how practical, valuable, and stimulating the gifts you have given us have been and will continue to be!

Despite all the dictionaries and thesauruses I now have, I don't have words sufficient enough to thank you and impart the joy I feel when I see my students' excitement. The sparkling eyes and toothless smiles are a wonder to behold in the journey of our learning---thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pillars

  • 1st Grade Current Events

    Funded Sep 24, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation of the Weekly Reader magazine to my first grade class. Several of my students are sending you a thank you letter as well.    I enjoy using the Weekly Readers because they are so well aligned with our first grade curriculum. For many of the topics we teach in science and social studies, I can usually find a Weekly Reader to use to introduce the topic. I also use the current and past teacher guides to supplement the lessons. The teacher guides are very useful for extension activities, poems, and phonics activities.

The reading material is on a first grade level and usually by mid-year, most of my students are able to read the articles independently. This gives them a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. And of course, the "Buddy's Citizenship" section is a big hit with the students.

Again, thank you for your gift. It has been money well spent.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Laawrence

  • Weekly Readers for First Graders

    Funded Sep 19, 2010

The Weekly Readers you provided to our classroom are so much fun for the students and have such a positive impact on their education! The students enjoy reading something so meaningful to them and I enjoy the result of having enthusiastic and eager readers! Each week, we know we've a new interesting reader to explore.

It brings my struggling readers confidence that they can be successful at reading a "real magazine!" or something so "cool" because of the topics. At the same time, my whole class is intrigued by the topics (from Robots, to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, to Polar Animals). Every week, our class has engaging and excellent reading material thanks to you”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Garnett

  • Supplementing Instruction with Weekly Reader

    Funded Dec 24, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The Weekly Readers that you donated have helped my students every week. We use them to learn new words, to write stories, poems and learn Science, Health and Social Studies new facts. We use Weekly Readers for shared reading in class and students use them to write stories about animals and current events.  We use them for homework assignments also. Students write friendly letters to Buddy Bear who teaches character traits.  Students carry the newspapers home to share with siblings and parents at home. Parents in the past have commented on the usefulness of the Weekly Readers.

Our school is facing a budget shortfall as many schools are at this time. Without your financial help we would have not had these resources for students. Thank you again for your kindness and support for my students.  ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • See It, Hear It, Say It

    Funded Dec 7, 2010

I am so excited. We just finished using the headphones for the first time! We took a little bit of time to talk about the care and safety of using the headphones. After a quick lesson on how to connect them to individual laptops, we were up and running!

The children were able to focus so much more on the language. My assistant and I were able to hear the children repeating the words.

We purchased a container to safely store the headphones in so that they can be easily accessed by all of our classes and stored in a way so they don't get tangled.

My class and I all say "THANK YOU!" for your generous donation. Please know that your generosity is making the difference in the lives of our young students.”

  • Make Math Interactive

    Funded Jan 6, 2011

Thank you so much for supporting my project! Colored pencils and bright paper are small things, but they create opportunities to engage students who would otherwise be too intimidated and self-conscious to participate. These supplies let me build some inertia doing simple things, then leverage it into higher engagement in more complex things!

Your support of my project will help make my classroom a more fun, colorful place to be. These materials are enough to have an impact on students for a long time to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Violists Abound!

    Funded Oct 27, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations that made it possible for us to get a new viola. I have a student waiting to use this instrument and it will be put to use as soon as it arrives.

My students are always excited to hear that so many people are interested in helping us grow and improve our program. This donation will affect several students immediately, as it frees up other instruments to be put in the hands of new students joining the program. The quality of the orchestra will improve as we add more students and they are playing on quality instruments. It will also continue to help us for years to come as we pass the viola on to other students. You have made a difference in the life of many students today.

Thank you again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smith

  • Building My Classroom Library To Build My Students' Literacy

    Funded Aug 26, 2010

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations to fund my classroom library. This is my first year back in the classroom after having served in a mentoring capacity for new teachers the past three years, and with that return to teaching I brought along several new ideas, one of which was silent sustained reading. I have seen the impact that allowing students to have a space, a time, and, most importantly, a choice in what they read. I wanted to choose a range of books of various genres and levels of difficulty that I hoped would appeal to all the different types of readers in my classes. After some initial apprehension and uncertainty, on both my part and the students', it began to work like I hoped it would.

We are now twelve weeks into the semester, and my students are seeing SSR as a normal, routine part of our curriculum and our work together. Many students have told me that they have finished a book, of their choosing on their own for the first time in a long time, or ever. The students are now talking about the books, sharing their insights about the texts, and looking forward to seeing how many pages they can dow when we read, which is typically two times a week for thirty minutes at a time. The students complete reading logs, summarizing their reading, making predictions, and taking the time to see what reading can do for them.

Again, you all have my deep gratitude and respect. I thank you again for funding my project. ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Alternative Energy for a Sustainable Future

    Funded Sep 12, 2010

Please allow me to extend my sincerest gratitude to you for your support of my project. Because of your generosity, we were able to receive energy conversion kits with which our children, through hands-on learning, gained priceless background knowledge. I wish you could have been here to see the look on the faces of the children. It was truly like a field trip for them- they were so excited. I look forward to using these kits with many classes in our school for many years to come.

Please know that you have made a remarkable difference in the science learning of many deserving children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kozerski
