  • A Place To Store Our Binders

    Funded Dec 22, 2008

Thank you so much for your donation. By donating to this project you are allowing by students to have a place to store their communication notebooks. I am working on teaching my students responsibility and the importance of being organized. With this shelf we will be able to keep our notebooks in an organized space and they will know exactly where their notebook is, without having to dig through a basket to find the one that belongs to them.

Once again thank you so much.

Wishing you and those around you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    Thank you,

    Mrs. ”

  • Inner-city Grade 5 Students Maintain Organic Garden

    Funded Nov 3, 2008

We are thrilled that our project has been funded. Thank you! The students are so excited and were very surprised to have received such a wonderful gift. As we begin to grow our organic vegetables we will think of you and remember that it would not have been possible without your support”

  • DNA Extraction: Eye Can See It Now!

    Funded Dec 3, 2008

Thank you SO much for funding this project! As you may well be aware, funding for schools in California has taken quite a hit. The topic of DNA can be very tiresome for many high school students. I was lucky enough to use these products about 5 years ago in my sophomore Biology class. The kids just LOVED it! It really makes DNA come alive for them when they can take their OWN DNA from their own cells and put it in a necklace that they can wear. I still have my necklace from 5 years ago and show my students my DNA that I extracted. They are SO amazed and many still don't believe that my actual DNA is in this little necklace hanging in my room. They usually ask me excitedly if they will have a chance to do the same. I can finally say "Yes" to my students this year. This project allows us to go in depth into such topics as cloning and genetic engineering....and they really get into it. Thank you again for giving my students the ability to do this hands-on project and get excited (that's usually where the learning comes in) about Biology”

    Mr. S.

  • Measuring a Little DNA Goes a Long Way

    Funded Nov 25, 2008

Thank you so much for this generous gift. My students are an inspiring group of young people who through their behavior remind me how simple and lovely the world is when you really simplify it. Sometimes they forget how the world and their education extend beyond the four walls of our classroom. In those times they can see what we do in school as somewhat less important. Several times now I have been able to come into school and show them a donation such as the one you made. When I show them the equipment and explain how a complete stranger bought it for them, it refocuses what they do. Realizing that there are people they don’t even know who are invested in their education, they stop and remember that what we do in school is not just for them, but that they are responsible for the world at large. The epiphany seems to last for a short while, but trust me, when we get to use it and they are able to do things that were not possible before, I realize the epiphany is still there. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

    Sincerely,

    Jorda”

  • Fabulous Forensics For Challenged Students

    Funded Nov 23, 2008

There are not words to describe the help and assistance that you are providing to the students in my class. This innovative opportunity will give them the motivation and the scientific knowledge that they need to be successful as they work toward passing the state standardized test for graduation. We are very pleased that you have donated to our cause and we believe that it will have a profound impact. As a teacher, we often find ourselves trying to figure out unique ways to reach our students and your gift means so much to me. Thank you very much for all that you are doing for me and for my students and for the students that will benefit in the future”

    With gratitude,

  • Processing Preserved Organisms

    Funded Nov 19, 2008

Thank you so much for making this possible for my students. I currently have students who have already shown a great interest in science and love to see visuals come alive in the classroom! From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of all of my students...thank-you and God Bless”

  • New Forensic Science Class!

    Funded Nov 7, 2008

Words cannot express how grateful I am for your support! Because of your generosity, my students will finally be able to do actual lab activities! Up until now they've been learning the theory behind these techniques, but thanks to you they will now be able to put into practice the techniques that they have read about. They are a great group of kids who are very excited about learning. These kids really are our future, and thanks to you they will receive a more enriched education.

    Thank you”

  • Reading in Biology: More than a Textbook Thing!

    Funded Nov 6, 2008

Thank you, thank you!! I honestly never imagined a Biology teacher would receive funding for novels. My seniors are excited about the future projects; and well, my sophomores don't know what is in store for them.

I hope you realize how much this means to us. Your generosity will enable students to read books they may never have a chance to read, in a way never presented before......with a biological twist.

Again, I not only thank you for myself, but for future biology students who will learn that I teach biology as more than a textbook thing!!!!

    Thanks again!!!

    Susa”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hawkins
