I wish to extend a huge thank you to the foundations, businesses, and individuals who contributed to this project. Our choral program now benefits from student access to 2 five octave electronic pianos with midi capability, as well as earphones for individual/private practice.
The benefits to our choral students have included:
· Individual, after school piano lessons during the second semester of this school year for several students who plan to continue their musical training next year [and in coming years] on the college level.
· Opportunities for choral music classes/students to actively learn about the piano keyboard as it relates to reading musical pitch and identifying intervals both visually and aurally. More importantly, the opportunity for students to actually sit at a piano and perform the half steps, whole steps, and various intervals which they compose in the process of learning to notate music. In the study of advanced music theory, honors level students are not only learning to construct, but also to perform augmented and diminished chords, as well as various minor as well as major scales on these keyboards.
· Opportunities for students to develop musical independence, not only as vocal music students, but also to explore and practice the art of playing the piano.
· Opportunities for students to develop skills in musical creativity and music composition, and to explore the utilization of technology and music software [Sibelius] for composing and arranging their own musical ideas.
In a largely rural, middle and low income community, these keyboards are being utilized as tools for enlarging the world of music and the realms of opportunity and creativity for the students in this music program.
Again, I thank you sincerely for your support of music education and the fine arts in our school. My husband constructed the rolling carts for the keyboards so they may be moved around the room and used where needed. As a necessary supplement to the equipment you provided, our choral program purchased two power cords and two sustain pedals in order to utilize these keyboards.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Nance
