  • Reading for Fun!

    Funded Sep 29, 2010

Our school year is beginning to come to a close. All of your donations have made a great impact on my Varying Exceptionalities classroom. The materials that I ordered has enriched live of all my students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.

My fifth graders increased their fluency by reading books by Kevin Henkes to our kindergarten and first grade classes. The nonfiction books exposed my students to interesting sites around America. Many will never get the chance to travel and see the Grand Canyon or Mount Rushmore, and these books piqued their interest in all there is to see in our great country.

Schools all around our country have been going through major monetary cuts. Donations from caring donors has been uplifting to teachers across the country. Thank you again for all that you have given. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fishman

  • My Future Music Stars

    Funded Dec 29, 2010

My students and I are still trying to find the words to express how thrilled, excited and grateful we are for your donations. Because of your generosity, my students now have opportunities to explore a whole new dimension of music education. Until recently, most of my students' experiences with playing guitar have been through the popular video games which do not truly help students learn to play the instrument. The interest to learn to play "like a rock star" has been embedded in all my students.

Words cannot express the excitement on the students' faces when the guitars arrived. From the first day, my students have been writing lyrics and accompaniments for their compositions. Many students who normally shy away from the spotlight are visiting the music room before school to share what they wrote and want to use the guitars whenever possible.

We are truly grateful and can't thank you enough for what you have brought to our school. Music is very powerful and I am fortunate to be in the position to foster creativity and bring out the best in my students through music. You have touched many lives and have truly made a difference for all of us. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sinibaldi

  • Music and Art: Classics for Kindergartners

    Funded Dec 23, 2010

Listening to classical music and studying about famous artists and composers has been a thrilling experience for me as well as for my students. We are learning so many interesting facts as I try to bring the gifted artists and composers to life through personal anecdotes I've read in my research for this project.

We go online to look at their images and the students eagerly want to see more. They are asking intelligent, thought out questions as we go along. One girl said she wanted to be an artist when she grew up and would like to paint animals.

After studying about Vincent van Gogh's style of painting with dashes that give the painting a sense of motion, four children spent their free time in the afternoon painting at the easel. Each child had independently applied dashes throughout his or her painting.

When we play the classical music pieces the students listen for a while and then inevitably ask if they can move to the music. They love identifying and pretending to play the various instruments. We talk about the tempo and how the music makes us feel. The students request to hear the music again at their rest time. I've even had two students try to compose a song on the spot.

This project has inspired the students to want to learn more. It has inspired me to keep introducing artists and composers to them and continue to relate relevant details to our curriculum.”

  • Creating Real Guitar Heroes in the Classroom!

    Funded Dec 29, 2010

Your generous donation has given my students the opportunity to truly express themselves, and communicate through a creative outlet. Every day my students come to music class they are excited to play their new guitars. I have students that have even written their own songs after a few weeks of learning chords. Your gift truly gives them an impact in language arts, and communication skills without them even realizing it. It is amazing how poetic and creative these students have become because of your donation.

We are very grateful for your donation especially during the recent cut backs in our state. Without you this opportunity for my students would not be possible.”

  • I've Got The Music In Me!

    Funded Nov 30, 2010

Wow! We are off and running! It seems like we just started last week, but we are now three quarters into the school year and the kinderkids are getting ready for the upcoming spring break! Time really does fly!

The instruments that you graciously donated to our classroom are AMAZING! They came at the perfect time! I actually just attended a workshop that focused on using instruments and music to reinforce phonemic awareness skills. Each morning I use the instruments to teach rhyming, segmenting blending, identifying beginning, middle, and end sounds, and other phonemic awareness skills. The provides a real, in depth (and of course fun!) way of reinforcing the concepts taught. The kinderkids are so enthusiastic and ready to learn as soon as the instrument box comes out!

Again, I really appreciate your donation to our classroom! The kinderkids are really enjoying and loving the math center. You have already made a HUGE impact on their love for learning! Thank you so much! ”

  • My Sixth Grade Stars Need To Read Number the Stars

    Funded Sep 14, 2010

Thank you so much for providing my students each with a copy of the book Number the Stars. We are currently preparing for the state standardized test in reading, which demonstrates whether or not the students have mastered grade level content. After the test we will begin studying about the Holocaust and read Number the Stars. I introduced my students to a little background about the Holocaust and the book and they were immediately intrigued and asking a million questions. Some of my students have even gone home to look up information about the Holocaust because they want to know more about it. I am so grateful that you were able to provide my students with an opportunity to learn about the Holocaust. I know that reading this book is going to expose them to many new ideas and concepts and ultimately teach them about the importance of tolerance. This book is a dual gift because while it is exposing them to new concepts it will also help them improve in their reading comprehension. The fact that each of my students gets to keep their copy of the book means that we will be able to write in the books and this will greatly help with comprehension and engagement.. I plan on making use of this book to the fullest and by the end of our time studying it my students will have the opportunity to visit a Holocaust Memorial as well as meet a survivor. Thank you so much for making all of this possible. By giving us these books you are changing the way my students think and ultimately changing their lives. It is only through your generosity that the experience of learning about the importance of the Holocaust has truly come to life.”

  • Leading the Future Leaders

    Funded Jan 13, 2011

Thank you so much for supporting my students. I am trying to demonstrate to them that anything is possible. Many of my students do not see in any real way, that people care for people that they do not know. Thank you so much. This will help them for not just my class, but all of them. They can use this printer to print color pictures for projects. Many of them have little or no access to printing, let alone color printing without the expense. I often print project for them personally so that they were balanced with the students that have money. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!”

  • TAR-TAr-Tar-tar

    Funded Sep 18, 2010

We have learned a lot about how the oil spilled happened, and the damage that was done to our beautiful beach. My students are now seeing the long term problems we will have to face. The wildlife on the coast have suffered. The fishing community is still reeling form the effects.

The newspaper reports daily about the economic affect on our community. The student now know there was much more, long term damage then anyone knew and this is something they will be dealing with will into their adult years, Thank you , all, again for helping me teach my students about this tragedy.”

  • Making Music Come to Life!

    Funded Nov 2, 2010

Thank you so much for providing my students with music stands! The primary usage for these music stands so far has been the "Recorder Karate" units that I use with all of my fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. We received the music stands just in time to use them at our "Recorder Karate" Concert. The stands allowed many of the students to perform standing up, without the difficulty of having to sit on the stage with their music books in their laps. The organization that the stands provide allowed us to give a much more professional concert.

These music stands will continue to be used in both recorder performances, as well as classroom rehearsal, for many years to come. We also plan to use them in our many upcoming musical theatre performances, and several other events we put on each year. Rest assured, they will get tons of use!

Thank you again for your generous support of the music program at our school. Please know that it positively affects the lives of hundreds of students at a time.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lewis

  • The Music In Me

    Funded Oct 30, 2010

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donations to my classroom efforts. The electric piano and supporting music theory materials that were purchased using your donations are an immense addition to my classroom. The students have been thrilled to have the opportunity to learn how to correctly play music using the keyboard and have been excited to share what they have learned with their peers and parents. Soon, students from other classes will have the opportunity to experience music enrichment by coming to my classroom and being tutored by my students in music instruction.

Because of the socioeconomic status of these students, they have been given the opportunity to experience fine arts enrichment which they would have otherwise gone without in the classroom and in their community. As many of you know, experience in the fine arts leads to a richer school experience and allows children the opportunity to find something they can excel at outside of general school subjects.

Without donors such as yourself, thousands of students in the United States would go without materials which lead to a better school experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jarvis-Parlato
