  • Preventing a "Silent Spring" in Southeast Missouri

    Funded Jan 15, 2009

My students and I send our sincerest thanks to all of you for the generosity you have shown in helping fund a classroom set of Rachel Carson's seminal work "Silent Spring." The 35 copies of Silent Spring I have received will be used primarily with my Ecology classes, as a supplement to my standard classroom instruction. My students have already benefited this year, and will continue to do so as I use them with future classes.

I hope to use these books to not only incorporate scientific literature in to my classroom, but also to give my students insight into their environments. I am confident that I will succeed given the response from my initial usages of the books. Although we have not had the opportunity to read the book in its entirety, I have incorporated excerpts into both my biology and ecology classes. I have received positive feedback from my students. I feel they are connecting with the material in a very personal way. Based on our discussions, most of my students seem to be developing an increased awareness of the fragility of the world around them and their place in maintaining it.

Again my sincerest thanks to all of you. Please feel confident that your generous gift has touched the lives of my students, and will continue to do so in the future. ”

    Ms. D.

  • Progress You Can See: Swimming Team in Need of a Camcorder

    Funded Dec 14, 2008

I opened my e-mail today to find the most exciting news! Your donation has made it possible to make a dream of mine come true. For about two years I have wanted to record swimmers of mine so that they can see how they are doing. I also have wanted to create DVDs that would show the beginning and ending of each season until they graduate. Then at the awards banquet at the end of the year, I can put together a slide for our seniors to show how much they have improved from the beginning to the end of their swimming career with our team. They will also be able to keep their DVD with the progress they have made. I cannot tell you how much it means to me that this project has been funded. I know that swimmers, divers, and parents will be just as thrilled as I am when I can tell them of this news. Thank you so much for making a dream of mine come true and for allowing our swimmers and divers to really see how far they have come”

  • No More Bullies!

    Funded Aug 14, 2008

Thank you so much for making this project possible! As a third grade teacher, I tend to see the beginning of school bullying. It is difficult to know when it will come, but prevention is really the best method. I am so excited to start off a new school year with an anti-bullying plan in place. Your dedication to this project will affect countless numbers of students in the years to come, and I can't thank you enough”

  • How Does The Food We Eat Affect Our Health?

    Funded Oct 12, 2008

Thank you so much for responding to the needs of our classroom. We are studying nutrition and body systems this fall, and are so excited to have supplies to help provide hands-on learning.

When kids grow food they learn great facts about science, but they also learn responsibility and patience.

Thank you so much again. We are especially grateful.

    Sincerely,

    Sar”

I want to thank you so much for your generous donation. We are all responsible for raising children who are good and true. This will be a great lesson to them on how important it is to look outside of their small world and support and care for others. I am now teaching 5th grade at the same school, but have many of the same children that I had when I wrote the proposal 5 months ago. I can’t wait to share your generosity with them. They will all benefit greatly, and in addition I plan to add other things to the MP3 players to enhance their math skills as well.

Once again I thank you for supporting us and having the kind thoughts and deeds to reach out from afar.

  • 50 Great States - Southern

    Funded Aug 21, 2008

Wow! What a great feeling! I just got home from a classroom over 100 degrees where I worked all day setting up before the kids come on Monday. I was exhausted and feeling overwhelmed (and a bit cranky to boot). What a wonderful surprise to find out that this project was funded! I immediately started thinking about where I would place these great books and how I will introduce them to the kids. How about that, a complete change in my mood!

Thank you so very, very much for funding this project. You can be sure that these resources will be in the hands of children who utilize and love them! Your generosity is so very appreciated.

    Warm regards,

    Marie ”
