  • Music, Music, Music

    Funded Oct 3, 2012

These new World Music CDs are amazing. With such a great variety of music, we are up and jumping, running, spinning, and dancing on this wonderful whirlwind tour of nations that these great new Putumayo World Music CDs have put us on. With every new melody we sample, our feet, arms, and torsos are exploring the space around us and creating vivid imagery that is helping us express all of our wonderful ideas and feelings. The rhythms are quickly expanding our view of our world and helping us to communicate in new and meaningful ways. We are truly having so much fun!

Thank you for putting all those wonderful nickels in the nickelodeon and getting our music up to speed. Now we're loving YOU and MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Monte

  • Express Yourself

    Funded Apr 24, 2012

    Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your donation. The students have had an amazing time video taping their performances and observing themselves on video. Students were surprised on how they spoke, stood, and performed. Every child's confidence improved over time. Writing and work/study habits also improved. Thank you so much for this opportunity.

I am now teaching teaching Dual Language Kindergarten and have video taped groups of students performing small skits retelling famous folktales. Kids really enjoy watching themselves on video. Just like the third graders students are more eager and excited about about performing at their best.

Thank you so much for providing my students this opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sanchez

  • Reach for the Stars

    Funded May 30, 2012

Words can not express my true gratitude. My students were transformed to a culture of exploration.

The book Star Jumper and the Constellation cards provided a true learning experience for my gifted students.

As we read the book, Star Jumper, we constructed a cardboard spaceship. We built the necessary components to blast off into a far away galaxy. Upon completion of the space ship, we used our constellation cards and flash lights to project the stars on the walls and ceiling of our newly constructed spaceship.”

  • Supplies for Music Class

    Funded Sep 26, 2012

Thank you so much for your donations. They have been a great benefit to my classroom. We immediately began using the chart paper to make lists and brainstorm in the class, and since they are self-stick they easily hang in the classroom. We took out the calendar and my students helped me mark down important dates, especially days off and birthdays! The office supplies help me so much in the everyday running of my classroom. Again, thank you so much for donating to my classroom. It is individuals and companies like yourselves that keep music alive in NYC public schools.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rice

  • BEF STEM Blast Off Into Outer Space

    Funded May 3, 2012

Dear Broward Education Foundation,Nick Schneble, Morning Joe and Anonymous,

Thank you so much for donating funding to my Grant Blast Off Into Outer Space. Students enjoyed stories and visuals that I checked out from the Media Center. They were fascinated about space and the solar system.

You helped make it possible to use exciting materials that students normally would not have access to. You can see by viewing the photographs taken in my class the excitement in the students faces creating their paintings of outer space. Some of the students went above and beyond and added friendly aliens as well besides rocket ships and planets. Some of the students told me that they had never painted before this project. I informed them that there will many other painting projects this year because of your funding. The smiles on the students faces in the photographs says it all.”

  • To the Sun (and Moon) and Back!

    Funded Apr 23, 2012

Thank you all so much for your generosity. It is because of you that my students were able to complete artwork to accompany their Expeditionary Learning projects. The finished work looks fantastic and the students learned so much during the process.

Since the students were able to use age-appropriate, high-quality materials for their artwork, they were invested and very excited about the process. As their work progressed from start to finish, and they began to see the culmination of their hard work, their feelings about their work changed from interest to real excitement, and ultimately to pride. It is something extraordinary to see, and the artwork truly enhanced their learning experiences.

The project "To the Sun (and Moon) and Back!" was an exploration of more than just basic astronomy. It was an exploration of self within the universe, of how art plays an integral role in human expression, and how the act of creating art about something we care about enhances our experience. Thank you so much for making this a reality for my students.”

  • We're All the Same- So Let's Stop Bullying!

    Funded May 8, 2012

Thank you so much for donating to our project 'We're All the Same- So Let's Stop Bullying! Through all of your generous donations we were able to reach our goal and receive funding. My students and I were so excited to hear the great news and are so happy to have received the materials that were needed to accomplish this lesson. It is so important for our students to understand that their actions and words do hurt and kindness must exist within our school on a daily basis. Bullying in any form cannot be tolerated and we need to work together to show daily examples of kindness. The NOOK will offer my students the great opportunity to discover how technology can be incorporated into an art lesson and to see all of the amazing opportunities that are now available via the web. We hope to soon be adding some new apps and books to our NOOK, exploring both portraiture and bullying. Adding mirrors to a unit on portraiture will allow my students to explore portraiture, drawing both themselves and their classmates. Classes will use the new bullying posters and books that are now part of this unit too, for many years to come. The posters will be displayed with our drawings, reinforcing the importance of kindness and actions. Again, thank you so much for your donations and supporting education! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kopecki
