Evil Beet: Gossip Saves the World

My students and I want to offer our heartfelt thanks to you for helping fund our hominid/primate experiments, something we have been looking forward to all year. Even though it is perhaps the most exciting subject in biology, evolution is under attack in the state of Louisiana. Given the abstract nature of this unit, it is vitally important that teachers are able to offer hands-on activities to help students to understand all of adaptations that life has gone through over the last several billion years. Young people need to understand that nature doesn't work by magic, but through laws and interactions that can be understood through observations, tests and experimentation. It is your donation that is helping my students to actually practice science, rather than just reading about science.

Science is a subject that should be learned by actually working through problems with experimentation, not simply by lecture or textbook work. Unfortunately, many of the most important supplies go unfunded in our school. I rely on generous science-lovers such as yourself to help keep the students' interest piqued. I am so thankful to you for your generous support. Thanks to you, I am able to help my young scientists achieve the skills to move onto the next level. You have my sincere appreciation.

Thank you so much for the graphing calculators! My students today have started doing phase shifts with trigonometric functions. They are doing a great job without calculators, but I can't wait to see how much faster they will learn with their own technology! A student today wrote me a "free-write" warm up about the class:

"Fourth period is in my opinion the most interesting class on my schedule. The teacher is great, my classmates are bright, and the learning is non-stop."

I haven't told the students yet of their good fortune, but I'm sure that they will be ecstatic.
