Ok guys, let's try and help out these kids!
You get to pick exactly what project your donation money goes to, AND if you donate through this or any other science blogger page, HP will match your donation!! That means double the money, double the impact!
Every dollar helps, so if you feel you can contribute, it would be greatly appreciated.
I offer my sincerest gratitude for your donations that enabled my students to deepen their understanding of the topical debate surrounding food safety, justice, and purchasing options. As a Math and Art teacher, I thought it would be ideal to merge the two content areas in order to inform my students about the importance of building awareness of their individual health and nutrition. A key entrance point into this project was through observation and conversations started by exposure to the work of photographers Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluisio. Students were able to compare and analyze photographs and data from their book and series "Hungry Planet: What the World Eats" and "What I Eat: Around the World in 80 Diets". This wide-ranging photographic work emphasizes the global issue as well as forms a connective link between all cultures. Students compared the types of food (processed versus fresh) per country, determined the cost per person based on given data, and concluded the nutritional benefits of a given diet. Mathematically, we looked at how nutritional labels are presented on products in this country, how percentage of daily allowance is calculated, and how some products misrepresented information by rounding up or down incorrectly.
Students used the photographic images from Menzel and D'Aluisio as inspiration for looking at their own diets, specifically at the types of food eaten during school lunch. The digital cameras donated were vital to making this project a success. Students teamed up to photograph their daily lunch items. As they photographed themselves and others, they naturally started conversations about their project with students outside of our class- a genuine way of spreading information and raising questions about food quality. Thanks again for this opportunity to help my students become informed and learn to advocate for themselves and their families.”

I am watching the students write their thank you letters and I am so grateful that they will be able to experience this opportunity of going to test the Rouge River and to learn first hand how important it is to protect our water resources. we will be bale to bring samples from the area and test in the classroom as well. I was so excited to open the case and let the students see "real Science" tools and know that they will be able to handle them when we put them to good use.
Thanks so much for making this project a reality for my students. They will never forget it. You can rest assured that you have indeed made a difference in the lives of our children and perhaps you will have inspired a student to look at this as their career choice. At the very least, you will have helped to make responsible, educated citizens for tomorrow's world.”

Thank you on behalf of my students and future students. The materials purchased are very valuable and will be used as long as I teach! Your supportive efforts exemplify that science education is an integral part of education. It's relative to everyone in all aspects. As a class we were extremely excited to receive such a gracious donation. We humble salute those that take the time to carefully review the projects and decide to donate.
The books received from the grant are an addition also to our informational text library. This additional resource will also allow us to use comprehension strategies as we read informational text. Non-Fiction is the one genre that is not as prevalent in many student libraries.
Once again, we thank you for your generosity and gracious donation!!!
Please continue to support public education in this nation!!!”
Thank you so much for the donations! The colorful paper has really helped my classroom. I have found so many uses for it to keep my students organized, and to save paper. All year, I have been printing a progress report for my students every week. The kids would lose it, or they wouldn't be able to tell which week the report was from. Now I print on a new color every week and I let parents know what color they should look for; many more students are bringing their reports home each week!
I'm also using the bright paper as cover pages for big packets that students need. It really helps the students keep track of the packet, and I don't have to make more copies. I can say "take out the orange packet" or "you will need to return the pink packet" and immediately kids can figure out what I mean. It's been such a time saver, as well as a paper saver!
Another way that I've been using the paper is for tickets and certificates for recognizing my students. It's fun to be able to give them a neon colored sheet that lets them know that they are doing well, and lets the other kids know that they are being rewarded as well. This paper has made a big difference in allowing me to do this.
Thank you so much for your generous donation. The project that you have funded has been instrumental in engaging my students with such complicated content. The solar elements have were an amazing tool in order to show students the amazing capabilities of solar energy. The radiometer and St. Louis motor raised so many questions and created so many teachable moments. You have helped drive the learning by helping kids see mysteries that they didn't know existed, and then we unraveled those mysteries with out scientific knowledge. You helped me take it a step further. Thank you. ”

Thank you so much for your amazing gifts! The microscopes and other lab supplies that were donated really made a tremendous difference in our classroom this year. We have used the microscopes several times throughout our units on cells and genetics. Using the new microscopes and slides, the student made slides of their own cheek cells and studied them under the microscope. The students also observed different kinds of plant cells using the pre-made slides that were purchased with your donation. It was fascinating to see how excited they were to observe first hand what they had learned in the classroom.
The support you have shown on this project is uplifting for both my students and I. As a teacher the obstacles that I face each day in the classroom can sometimes feel daunting. However, the interest you showed in my students encourages me to continue my efforts to challenge them and enrich their education. Also, your donations to our classroom bring my students more than just supplies, they bring them confidence that others in their community have taken an interest in them. Once again, we are very thankful for your help. ”

Of all the projects I have put out on the DonorsChoose website, this is my all-time favorite. Thank you so much for funding this fantastic resource. Our new skeleton is the star of the school, spending time in both our music and science classrooms. Whenever he is in the room, the students flock to him.
Today I was using him in one of my band classes to teach the students about posture and a group of students began discussing the parts, asking questions and were so engaged in learning that the class period seemed to fly by... all without any prompting from me. What a wonderful dynamic classroom our new friend helps to create!
So please accept my heartfelt thanks for your generosity. This resource will be a permanent fixture in our school and enthrall thousands of students for many years to come!
Thank you for donating to this project. These books will help students to better understand many science concepts. Many times text books are written at a level that is beyond students. These books will help to counteract that. Nothing means more to a student's learning than them figuring things out for themselves. My students will now be able to read and do just that.
These books will be used in so many ways. Students will use them for reports, powerpoints, and many other projects. My classroom is comprised of a diverse group of students who are on many different levels. These books will help my lower readers become more involved. They are perfect for partner work. Your generous donation will have an impact on not just this year's students but also on students for years to come.”
I am sorry for the late response to all of your generous donations, but my students and I just recently had the opportunity to use our new microscopes in class. My students used the microscopes just last week to compare and contrast the structure of plants and animal cells. I can't even express how excited my students were to explore their own cheek cells and determine how they compare to the cells of a leaf. This activity acted as a perfect introduction to our unit on the human cell and will really help solidify my students' understanding of the future material.
I am also extremely excited about how we will use these microscopes in the coming months. Thanks to your donations, my students will have opportunities to explore the structure and composition of brain tissue, heart tissue, DNA, etc. These donations will bring new life and excitement to my science curriculum.
I can't thank you enough for your generous donations. The new microscopes have changed the way my students think about science. They now understand that science is a hands on subject where exploration is the key to learning. I know that they, more than anyone, are grateful for what you each have given them. Once again, thank you so much for your donations. You have each single handedly helped improve the quality of education that each of my students will receive.”
Thank you so much for contributing to this project to get a digital projector for my students in the classroom! Since we received the projector, we've used it in many different ways to facilitate student learning and growth. Students have used the projector to present their lab findings for the whole class and for Jeopardy review games. I have used the projector to show college-style PowerPoint lectures on new material to help my students learn to take notes efficiently, to show demonstrations of free fall on the Moon, and to demonstrate to my students how to use an online simulation of projectile motion that they could then experiment with on their own. None of this, or countless more activities I have planned, would be possible without access to this resource that you have helped to provide for my students.
The technology of a digital projector, and all the other resources that are available to use in conjunction with the projector, has helped bring physics to life for my students and increased their engagement with and understanding of the material. Without Donors Choose, and all your donations, my students would not have access to the resources I can use with them and demonstrate for them on the projector, and they would not be able to practice their presentation skills.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martinsek
