It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Listen Up!

    Funded Feb 1, 2010

Words cannot express how grateful my class is for the resources provided for our "Listen Up" project. My students have enjoyed doing the Vocabulary Skills and Comprehension Skills listening activities. Students have been able to work in small groups and build skills needed to become better readers. I have used the various listening activities for workshop rotations - focusing on specific reading skills related to our weekly stories. The fiction and non-fiction activity cards have been great test prep activities as well.

The excitement they show when they get to work on the listening center activities on a daily basis is unexplainable. For my ELL students, the activities have been very effective and an engaging way of learning!

Donors like you make various learning modalities possible! Thank you for your support! ”

  • Who Took the Bikes from the Kindergarten Yard?

    Funded Dec 9, 2009

Thank you for your donations. You have made a great impact on my kindergarten students as well as many other students at our school. We have used the bike amongst all the kindergarten classes in order to promote giving and sharing amongst my students.

We have also been able to pass on your generosity on by allowing the  Primary Grades Special Needs class at our campus to use the bike as well. They were delighted when they asked and my students overwhelmingly agreed to share the bike. This spirit of kindness continued when the Upper Grade Special Needs class volunteered to be responsible to take the bikes outside and put them in at the end of each day.

Your contribution is transforming it has ignited a spirit of kindness and generosity that has gone far beyond what I could have imagined. Thank you from our kindergrtners and our school.

P.S. We sent some pictures of our recent awards ceremony were we had many classmates winning Reading, Math and Spirit of Giving  awards.

    Thank you,”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rosado

  • Yoga In The Classroom

    Funded Dec 13, 2009

It means so much to me that you chose to help fund my project! As a yoga teacher, I truly believe that it is important to teach students coping skills though mind/body awareness. My students seemed much more confident in their test taking skills after learning breathe techniques and stress management skills. Your donation was very handy during ISAT testing too! My students and I especially liked the book of yoga poems. Now my students ask for yoga breaks instead of candy! Hopefully, I can start an after school yoga club next year!”

  • Marvelous Mathematicians!

    Funded Dec 2, 2009

I believe that all children can learn and that it is my responsibility, as an educator, to provide students with equal opportunities to learn. Given the diversity in the classrooms today, it is essential for me to provide students with a variety of learning experiences to ensure that they will be successful in life. Since education is so under funded, it makes my job at achieving that more difficult in providing students with these opportunities. I am incredibly grateful for people like you who value the importance of an education that sets high standards for all students.

When I received the package of reading games I was in disbelief! It was an amazing feeling to know that there are people out there who have wonderful aspirations for my students. The items that you have donated to my classroom allow my students to have fun while learning, work independently, work in small groups, and provide them with the opportunity to teach and help their classmates.

As soon as I could open the box, which was immediately, I began to think of all the fun and exciting experiences my students would now be able to have. My students are given the opportunity to engage in many wonderful learning experiences through the supplies that you have donated. My students absolutely love using the math games during Math Workshop. Math Workshop has now become one of their favorite parts of the day because of all the new fun and exciting activities they get to take part in! All of these dreams that I had are now coming true because of your generous donation.

I cannot begin to tell you how many lives you have affected and will affect through your donation. Thank you for your support in assuring that all students learn to read and have fun in doing so!

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lehtinen

  • Making the Most of Recess

    Funded Nov 13, 2009

Thank you so much for your generosity and contribution to my class. The recess equipment has been cherished by the students. When the package first arrived, they were confused why others would not want all these fun balls, jump ropes, bean bags, etc. to themselves? Why had we been giving this? This prompted a conversation about giving, and I explained that sometimes people just want to help others. They were able to relate this to their own lives.

This collection of bright orange equipment has taught other valuable lessons including that of cause and effect. When you kick a bouncy ball very high it may go on the roof and you will have to wait one week for the janitor to get it down for you. My students have also had the opportunity to practice responsibility by keeping track of all the equipment and putting it away properly after each recess. This is done by the two ball monitors, a job that rotates weekly. We have also practice sharing. Since there is a given amount of equipment and 22 students, they have learned how to take turns and include others, even when you may not want to. We also share the equipment with the other 23 Kindergarten students in the class next door.

Most importantly, recess has become a more enjoyable time of the day now that there are things to play with. Students are moving more and getting the exercise they need. Students are able to get their energy out and focus on their work more when it is time to enter the classroom and get back to work. Our school is struggling financially right now and are out of basics like pencils and copy paper. So to have the nice set of equipment we do is a very special treat. I am so very thankful for your contribution.”

  • Learning with Hot Dots!

    Funded Dec 10, 2009

Words cannot express how excited my students were to learn with our new "Hot Dot" pens. Your generous donation has provided my class with an effective way of learning and staying engaged.

They are able to practice and master basic math facts and increase reading comprehension on their own during independent workshop time and also in small cooperative learning groups. The resources allow each child to practice skills and provide them immediate feedback with the cool sounds the pens make! It truly is an effective way for test prep purposes as well. They absolutely love it!

We thank you again for supporting our project during this tough economic time. Without you, many classes with goals would definitely go without. Thank you....”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Quilatan

  • Future Dodgers in Need of Equipment

    Funded Nov 21, 2009

I personally wanted to thank you for your donations. My students and I are having such a great time learning how to play baseball. I am not going to sugar coat it but, learning how to play the sport and building sportsmanship was a very difficult concept for many of my students. Lots of crying the first few weeks... Yes! Lots! My students play baseball at least three days per week. They have been learning how to work as a team, take turns, and not cry when the time runs out or they don't get to bat. It's been quite a learning experience for all...

My students and I are truly enjoying the process. We even have students from other classrooms eager to learn how to play the sport. Thanks to all of you, we have the equipment necessary to make it happen. You truly have made a difference in my students lives and we are very thankful for believing in the importance of learning through play. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morimoto

  • Let's Get Moving!

    Funded Nov 19, 2009

This letter is just a small token of my appreciation for your generosity in purchasing much-needed active play games and equipment for my wonderful students. You have truly made a difference in their school experience, one that is felt on a daily basis!

We all know the physical benefits of outdoor play, but research now connects outdoor play to increased academic success and ability to problem-solve. I love to watch my students invent new games with the materials and negotiate problems that can occur when playing. I know that the creativity, independence, and problem solving skills that they are developing through play will benefit them academically and in life.

Thank-you again for providing a healthy way for my students to get moving, and get thinking!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
