Thanks you so much for helping me obtain the resources my students need in order to be successful in my class. They could not barely believe all the resources that were donated. As my students were unpacking the boxes that included the resources, they were so amazed at how someone that does not know them contributed to their learning. The K'nex and Marble Run are a great hit with my students. They are having a great deal of fun while in the process of learning research based materials for science inquiry.
Learning does not have to always be something coming from a textbook. With the resources purchased for my classes, my students are learning more STEM (science , technology, engineering, and math) related activities as well as activities that will prepared them for 21st century learning and 21st century working. Hands-on learning with my students are making a great difference in their grades as well as global competition. My students are overjoyed with the marbles, K'nex, and Marble Run.
Sometimes it is the smallest gestures that makes the biggest difference with my students. They are putting forth more effort knowing that others out there are willing to contribute to their education. Because of the resources that you helped provide, many of my students are interested in some type of STEM career. This makes me so proud as a teacher. It also makes me grateful for individuals that you. ”
This is a letter to express our, my class and I, thanks for your donation to purchase materials for our listening center in myKindergarten Classroom. The students are using this center to be able to independently listen to and follow along to familiar stories as they improve listening comprehension and reading skills. In addition, the center is easy to use for all of my students, leading to a great sense of independence. This week my students used the center to listen to Rosie's Walk. As the CD played, the students followed along in the book and identified familiar words. After reading, they completed an activity writing and drawing about their favorite part in the book. Next week students will use the center to play Rhyming and Addition BINGO during Reading and Math times. Through this donation and another Donors Choose project, my students will use this center for not only Reading, but also for Math, Phonics and Phonemic Awareness activities. These activities are all of high quality and effectiveness and most importantly performed independently.
My students use this center during Independent Centers time. They learn new skills and reinforce skills taught in both small and large groups. Your donation has contributed to an immense sense of empowerment for my students.
Again, we appreciate your generous donation and are excited to keep on using this center as we keep on reading and writing”
I would like to extend a huge thank you for your very selfless donation. It is because of people like you that care about our future that I can effectively do my job. It is so much easier to teach math when I do not have to worry about of all of my students have their supplies. We use the calculators that you funded everyday. The students love the fact that they can see what they have typed in and eliminate mistakes .
My school has an eighty percent poverty rate. It is hard for parents to buy everyday supplies such as paper and pencils. Calculators are the furthest thing from their minds. However, each students needs a calculator for state testing. If they are not used to using them by that time, they cannot effectively use them one the test. Your donation made it possible for me to teach with the calculators and give students plenty of time to learn the functions.
Not only did you help me keep my sanity, but you helped my students achieve their goals in math. That is the most important gift. Again, I appreciate your gift and i hope you continue to fund worthy projects.”
Thank you so much for the measurement readers for my sixth grade students. They have been a valuable tool in our learning this year. These books have proved to be a great way to connect reading skills and mathematics. Each book is different and captures the students' interest. Some of the favorite titles include information about sharks, hot air balloons, and ocean creatures.
Without your dedication and contribution to education, my students would not have been given the opportunity to take advantage of these math books. My students are dedicated to improve their skills in math, and the books that you donated contributed to their interest in math. We are very grateful.
I invite you to follow our class math bog, so that you can see what my students are working on in math throughout this school year. http://mrsriddledotwordpressdotcom.wordpress.com/
Thank you again for your dedicated to math education. ”
We have just started our unit on fractions and decimals. Beginning with the hands on identification of the common fractions in our kit we were able to see what 1/4 and 3/12 physically looked like. Even more so we were able to see that these were equivalent fractions. Coming from elementary they have been introduced to fractions but not the relationship of the different fractions to each other.
The excitement level continued as we compared other equivalent fractions. Some of the students started to see what an addition problem looked like and how it was formed with the fraction bars.
Next week we will look at decimals, and fraction comparisons. The students and I thank you for your generosity so that we can look at math as a hands on application as well as our normal paper pencil approach. Math is fun...”
Thank you again for your generous donations. Each year I try to improve and see how I can bring math to life for my students and the hands-on equation sets have helped me do that. It's a continuous struggle trying to find new and engaging ways to teach my students and your donations have made it that much easier.
I used the Hands-on Equation set with a small group of students and the results were amazing! Being able to work with a small group of students and have such great visuals was a totally different experience. Instead of doing the same old "boring equations" or worksheets, it was like a game to the students. There were students who were engaged and able to get the concepts that were not able to do the math before!
I look forward to learning more about how to use this amazing resource in my classroom. We couldn't have had these opportunities without your support. Thank you!”
Earlier in the school year, I hung a clock on my wall of my pre-algebra classroom called the "Pop Quiz Clock." Rather than having the regular 1 - 12 numbers, the face provides math problems to solve: - 8 = 2 - x instead of ten o'clock or 102,413 - 102, 412 instead of one. My students were absolutely fascinated! They loved deciphering the time, and for once I didn't mind them looking at the clock during math time! I realized that creating their own clocks as a final project for the year would both give students a chance to synthesize all of their pre-algebra skills and an opportunity to create a tangible souvenir that they could take home and use to share math with their families. Thanks to your incredible generosity, I was able to make this project a reality and provide my students with this opportunity to build their own math clocks.
Each student created 12 math problems based on math skills we had practiced throughout the year and designed a face to match. I loved watching how inspired they were to measure and plan accurately; the desire to have such an exciting final product definitely motivated them to be thorough, creative, and precise. We had such much fun throughout the project, and I love the vision of a pre-algebra math clock hanging in homes throughout the community.
Thank you again for your amazing generosity. Thank you for helping make learning fun.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Petrey
This classroom project was brought to life by AT&T and 12 other donors.
I am so honored at the commitment to education you have shown to our school and specifically to the math education of our students! Your generosity is so appreciated and so needed. With your help, I will be able to build our classroom set (and math department set) of calculators that will help students better understand and explore graphing. It takes time, patience, and lots of precision for students to create graphs on paper. This can be very challenging and frustrating for students. With your help, these calculators will show students what the graphs of the different functions look like, they will be able to see the correctness of their graphs, find errors with more immediacy than if they wait for me to check them all one by one. The most exciting part is that I will be able to help students see how changes in the function equations create very visible numerical changes in their graphs and students will see these instantly with the aid of the calculators! These calculators will make learning this topic easier and faster for students, as they will be able to see the shape of any standard equation and then make small changes and instantly see the impact on its graph! In addition, it will help keep the students more engaged because they will be using technology to learn difficult math concepts!
I look forward to introducing these new calculators to the students and showing them the various graphing features. I truly believe it will make a huge difference in how they perceive graphs and graphing in general. Additionally, I am excited to share these calculators and these instructional ideas with my colleagues. I am confident that working together, we will be able to increase the successful math education of our current and future students! Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Thank you all so much for your generous donations to our classroom. The Trojans just received their data- many of whom were far below grade level expectations are now at or above grade level. These materials allowed students to practice reading strategies at their own independent level. They also allowed students to practice math problem solving skills in collaborative learning groups. Students had a great time performing reader's theater with the materials that you supplied them with. Furthermore, these resources allowed them to inherit a love of reading and mathematics. They were able to receive texts that would challenge, yet allow for success making it possible for all students to practice the learning objectives. They also received manipulatives that targeted kinesthetic learning modalities. It is because of the materials they were given, the positive support from those that believe in them, and your generosity that they were able to strive and achieve success. I hope you will all consider donating again, if not to the Trojans, to another classroom, as these classroom supplies make all the difference. They make learning possible and promote ”
Thank you so much for sharing your time and resources while donating to my classroom. I wish you could have been there to see the look of excitement on my students' faces when the huge boxes of abaci were rolled in. They were overwhelmed with excitement and couldn't wait to rip into the packages and begin using the abaci.
These abaci, while seemingly small to us as adults, have given my students the opportunity to act and work independently. Being able to grab 100 manipulatives and use them to help with their math, has enabled them to begin solving their own problems, and has helped given them as sense of pride in their work.
Thank you so much for your kindness, you have touched the lives of 27 students and a teacher! I am excited to share these with the students next year! ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Evitts
