It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Up Close Look at Science: Using Microscopes to Wow Students

    Funded May 2, 2011

Some great additions have been made to my classroom this school year thanks to your contributions to my project proposed on DonorsChoose.org:

    a. Four new microscopes to view objects up close and to supplement curricular topics

    b. More students engaged in their learning by gaining hands-on experiences

    c. More students uttering the words "wow, this is cool!" because they have viewed something under the microscopes

    d. Deeper understandings of concepts covered in class by seeing the real thing under a microscope.

    e. Increased frequency of students using the exploration station in my classroom at the beginning of period just so they can put nature items (or sometimes just simply their pencil or fingers) under the microscope that is out and available to them.

It has been wonderful to implement the microscope use in my classroom (and with the other 7th grade teacher as well). During a time when school budgets are tight but teaching standards are higher than ever, your contributions through the DonorsChoose.org program are much appreciated and are assisting me to be a successful teacher.

    Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Resek

  • Turning Trash to Art and Saving the Environment

    Funded Feb 28, 2011

As you can see from the photos I posted my students have been thoroughly exploring the potential of creating recycled art with the heat guns. Students not only learned about the importance of recycling and the alternative ways we can recycle (i.e. a piece of art), but they also learned about being flexible and working with the spontaneity you get when working with the guns. Many projects we created varying from sculpture pieces to pendants and pins.

Thank you for supporting this project and giving my students the opportunity to explore a new art medium. I also thank you for your patience as I complete this thank you package.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Maas

  • Young Ladies School Store Project

    Funded Feb 21, 2011

Thank you so much for your kind and generous donations. Thanks to all of you, we were able to realize our dream of obtaining a cart which will be used for a portable school store. We will learn math skills, economic skills, and teamwork all as a result of you supporting our project. The money raised will be used to support many school wide activities as well charitable endeavors. Currently, we have a Thanksgiving Food Drive every year, and the cart will be a great help in gathering the donated canned goods from our three floors of classrooms. We also provide toys to some of our families for Christmas.

Fund raising efforts this school year enabled us to travel by train to Washington D.C. which included a visit to the White House. You can imagine our excitement! Our wonderful memories will remain with us always.

Above all, as we grow into adulthood, we will strive to give back as you have so generously given to us. Our future goal is to someday be donors like you! Once again, please accept our heartfelt thanks and appreciation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Patrylow

  • Steel Drums Coming Our Way

    Funded Feb 17, 2011

Thank you all so much for being so generous to my students. We are eagerly anticipating the concert by Resonance. They will be coming in about a month. My students will be learning about the culture of the Caribbean. They will learn about the geography, customs and history of the region. The final lesson will be the concert performed by Resonance. I am excited for my students to experience a live music performance. They are going to love the steel drum sounds. My students are also eager to be able to participate in the program. Several students will be able to create music with the Resonance group. This is going to be a great musical experience for my students. Thank you for giving them this opportunity!”

  • Sometimes We Have Problems With Math Problems!

    Funded Mar 1, 2011

To each and every one of you, from the bottom of my heart (and the hearts of my 3rd graders!) THANK YOU! These math tools have already made a huge impact on my room.

As soon as the boxes came, my students were shocked at all of the "cool stuff" Ms. K received. Then I told them it was theirs to use too. They immediately asked if they could borrow my stamp pad and practice their 6, 7, 8 and 9 facts with the fact stampers. I have already used the books, too. I had a few parents who thought their child needed more practice with the harder facts, so I was able to send home a few pages. I never thought these products could inspire parent involvement, but I'm pretty sure my kids told them about all of the cool things we received and asked them to write the letters asking me to send home supplies. :)

Once again, this wouldn't be possible without all of your help. The kids want me to let you know that they all say "THANK YOU", too! We are all grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DeFazio

  • Getting a New Start in Our Art Room

    Funded Feb 25, 2011

You should know that your generosity and donations have impacted almost 500 students at our school. With the art supplies that we received we have been able to make beautiful paintings, large murals from recycled bottlecaps, clay projects, collages and more! As a new teacher to this school, I feel like I have some great materials and resources now to help the students create some amazing art. Without your help, my students would not have had these amazing creative art opportunities that I am able to give them now. Thank you so much for your donations”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Meyers
