  • Books for Computer Science

    Funded Feb 12, 2021

Thank you so much for your incredible generosity in supporting our DonorsChoose project! Because of your kindness and willingness to invest in our classroom, we now have a wonderful collection of books that will serve as valuable tools for teaching computer science concepts to students in kindergarten through 5th grade. These books are more than just pages and print — they are carefully selected resources that bring the world of technology, coding, problem-solving, and creativity to life for our young learners. Your donation has made a real and lasting impact on our ability to introduce students to the foundational ideas of computer science in a way that is accessible, engaging, and fun.

In today's world, digital literacy is becoming as essential as reading and math. These books provide an exciting gateway for students to explore how technology works and how they can be creators, not just consumers, of digital tools. From storybooks that explain coding through colorful characters and fun narratives, to biographies that introduce students to diverse role models in the field of technology, every title you helped provide plays a part in shaping how our students understand and approach computer science. These materials are also helping us integrate cross-curricular learning — combining literacy with logic, storytelling with structure, and imagination with innovation.

Already, I've seen the difference your generosity has made. Our youngest students are beginning to grasp what a computer does, what a robot is, and how coding is like giving instructions in a special language. Older students are engaging in deeper thinking, making connections between what they read and the activities we do with coding games and challenges. They are developing problem-solving skills, learning perseverance, and feeling empowered to try, fail, and try again — all essential qualities in both tech and life. Some students who previously lacked interest in computers are now curious and excited, simply because they found a book that spoke to them.

Your support has transformed our classroom into a more dynamic learning environment. When students see books that reflect the digital world they live in — and the possibilities of what they can achieve — they begin to dream bigger. These books allow for exploration during independent reading time, during small group instruction, and even as part of larger discussions about the importance of technology in our lives. They are helping to plant the seeds of future careers, lifelong interests, and a better understanding of the world. Most importantly, your donation shows our students that there are people beyond our classroom who believe in them and are willing to invest in their learning and future.

On behalf of every child who now sees themselves as a future innovator, thinker, and problem solver, thank you. Your gift has brought not only new materials to our room, but also new energy, inspiration, and opportunity. Your generosity reminds us that education is a shared effort, and we are deeply grateful to have you as part of our students' learning journey. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making a lasting difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McArthur

  • Children's Books en Français!

    Funded Feb 11, 2021

It's been a while since you've donated to my Donors Choose project, but I wanted to reach out and tell you how positively impactful the French children's stories have been to my students.

Learning a new language takes a lot of bravery for students to put themselves out there, but the stories and books have helped make that process a lot easier.

The magazines have been used as an extension activity. Students will pick out the magazine that peeks their interest when they are done with that day's lesson. My students are motivated to complete their work and even talk through the magazine information amongst their table group.

When my students read (or listen) to the French children's books, it helps them visualize what the words mean using authentic text in a familiar format. Children's books provide my students a sense of simplicity, when they are actually doing deep-level thinking in a complex topic.

Your impact has gone a long way for years now; thank you so much for your generosity. It's special to know people like you support and believe in my profession.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. O'Bannon

  • Let's Move!

    Funded Jan 29, 2021

Thank you so much for the classroom support. Students have loved being able to use the bouncy bands on their desk, they are able to move with out getting up and go around the room. It is helping them focus and learn. I would not have been able to get this project done without the help of donors, we all appreciate it so much. Multiple students have come up to me saying they love having the bands on their desk and they have helped them be able to focus on class and get more work done versus when they are in class and do not have the bands.”

  • Physical and Chemical Change Lab

    Funded Feb 8, 2021

Your supplies helped us do fun labs all school year! Thank you so much for supporting our science classroom! Being able to have hands on experiences is so important to make labs more engaging. And not having to stress about purchasing these supplies out of our own pockets as teachers was even more amazing. We had plenty of supplies to go around so all the students had plenty to work with and share. Our entire chemistry unit was definitely enhanced by these purchases and we can't wait to do it again next year!”

  • Rock and Talk

    Funded Feb 9, 2021

What a special way to be a part of my office. The rocking chairs have been such a hit and I am so glad they are in here. I've had many conversations in here that I know having a rocking chair helped ease the anxiety of the person talking. They are such a lovely addition. The students are surprised when I have them in here and love them. They enjoy having a comfortable chair to sit in. Thank you so much for your donation. I am so grateful to have these in the office. They are the best addition to the office yet!”

  • Family Dinner in an Instant!

    Funded Jan 28, 2021

My students were so excited to open the new Instant Pot/Air Fryers. They were surprised that people they did not know wanted to contribute to their class. They immediately started to brainstorm what they could be used for. We started learning about pressure cooking vs. roasting. We made pulled pork both ways and then evaluated the differences in the quality of food and convenience.

Students also learned how to use vegetable scraps and leftover chicken bones to make stock for soups and gravies. The students were impressed by the amount of flavor that came from scraps and how much money it saved when making soup.

The air fryer function has been a lot of fun. Since air frying is currently trending, the kids liked experimenting with various recipes they found on social media.

Many students were able to go home and teach their family members how to use their own Instant Pots and share recipes we had used in class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Harris

  • Nonfiction Books for the AP Language and Composition Classroom

    Funded Jan 26, 2021

Thank you for your amazing donation to my AP Language and Composition classroom. Students were exposed to a wider and more diverse range of nonfiction books to choose from in my spring semester nonfiction independent book unit. The books you helped fun were very sought after by my students. My students enjoyed the new additions to my nonfiction collection. I received great feedback about how highly engaging the texts were.

It was so important for me to give students more choice when it came to selecting a nonfiction book to read. Not all books are suited for AP Language since it focuses so much on claim, evidence, and all the elements of rhetoric. I wanted to make sure they had AP-worthy books and a wide selection. Studies and teaching pedagogy shows students are more likely to become and stay engaged with a text if they get a choice in the selection process. You contributed to my classroom and all of my students last year and for many years to come. You are truly appreciated. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Sterba

  • Morning Brain Boost

    Funded Nov 11, 2021

The supplies for the morning tubs have been used on a daily basis. Watching the children's creativity come to life has been a joy to watch. They were so excited to see all the fun "toys" when I unpacked them. They couldn't wait to get started. It is such a great way to get the day started. They work together to build and create and laughter can always be heard in my room during this time. Some creations work, and some collapse, which always gets them laughing. What is it about loud demolishing that excites kids so much? The generosity of you, the donors, is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for making an impact in our classroom.”

  • Be Loud! Be Proud!

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation of the QBall microphone. This microphone has been a game changer in the classroom when it comes to engagement! The kids are having so much fun using it and all want a turn to speak to the class.

Students have come out of there shells and are participating for the first time and its all because of you! Thank you for helping me meet the needs of my students and for supporting public education in this way. Your impact goes well beyond the classroom!”

  • Taking Our Reading To New Levels!

    Funded Aug 27, 2021

Thank you so much for your support. My students loved to use the online Reading Plus program and it really helped their reading reach new levels.

Reading is a big part of our classroom culture and we enjoy reading in a variety of fun different ways. Because of your donations, many of my students were able to improve there reading and enjoy the activities even more. The students loved being able to take the new reading skills they practiced online through the program and use those skills with reading in class. It also helped them connect with their peers.

Once again, thank you so much. It is donors like you that classroom dreams come true!”
