What a great thing it is to give and invest in the lives our young people. This is the first time our class has been awarded a grant or any gift in support of higher learning. It has been an exhilarating and wonderful experience to watch our bar graph drawn on the board grow toward our goal as givers like yourselves provided hope and sent a message that people do care!
I always stress my class the importance of education, character and vision to achieve life goals. In our Interactive Media class we do more than just dream and record, we express our inner selves and report on the things, events and people we deem critical to our growth. In addition, we analyze films for aesthetic value in an attempt to better understand the director's impact statement to the world.
Now with your help we have a tool important to our comprehension; a TV able to produce in vivid high definition the thoughts, impressions and visions of the groups of young people enrolled in my class. With this TV they may now see themselves as clearly as we see their future!
Moreover, it is my hope my kids will see the direct impact of giving and that with this action and more to follow that they will become future philanthropists.
Thank you so much for your support. The projector has made a huge impact in my classroom. Instead of just talking about, or reading about the events of history, my students have been able to engage with history. We watched video footage of the protests at Central High School in Little Rock, saw images of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and watched part of Obama's Inaugural address.
Without this generous gift my students would not have been able to completely grasp the events or importance of U.S History. Thanks you again. ”

Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. The LeapFrog books have been a tremendous addition to our library. My students are able to use them on their own during workshop and center time. It has become one of their favorite activities due to the wonderful selection of books. Many of the books are classics that my students were unaware of but are now becoming quite fond of. It is so exciting to see them engaged and excited about reading a new book. My students and I thank you very much for you generosity!”
Thank you so much for helping fund a project that brought interesting books to the students in my classroom. Since this project was funded, 27 students who had never read a book "for fun" in their lives, finished a book completely independently.
Some students are asking to take the books home to finish them for homework, even though they won't complete any other assignments outside of school. I have witnessed a miracle in my classroom, and it would not have been possible without your support.
From the bottom of my heart, and the hearts of my students, I want to thank you for your generous donation that brought books to children who would have otherwise gone without. Thank you so much.”
I have never seen any of my students act the way they did today. I had directed my kids to the back for the room where our classroom library now resides to explain the procedures for choosing books when they began shouting. "Is that Precious?" "That's a graphic novel?" "Can I check that orange book out first?" "Ms. G, don't let anyone else take that one before I get it!"
After I finished my directions, they descended on the books and within five minutes, every single one of my students had a book that they had chosen on their own. And every single one had started reading their book. It was honestly one of the highest points in my career.
I now have students who are genuinely excited--I would even say stoked-- about reading books by Cormac McCarthy, Ralph Ellison, Ernest Hemingway, and Ken Kesey, just to name a few. These are all books they would not have been exposed to before the classroom library. I owe that excitement and my students' exposure to those books to you and your generous support.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Thank you so much for your kind generosity. The Genetics in Action C-Fern kits have made an extremely successful addition to my genetics unit. My district has missed many days of school due to terrible weather conditions, so I had to shorten my genetics unit by two weeks. Fortunately, I was able to teach my students about patterns of inheritance, Punnett Squares, mutations, and gene expression using the C-Fern lab. Anytime my students have a hands-on experience such as this lab, they enjoy learning the new material and gain a deep understanding of the concepts. This lab provided a much more valuable learning experience than any lecture could provide.
While observing the C-Fern plants, many students wanted to learn more about how plants grow, the processes involved in their reproduction, and how a trait such as the polka-dot gene gets passed on to the next generation. Seeing what a mutation can do to a plant was also extremely exciting for many students. Many of them also became experts at using a microscope, a skill they did not have before.
Once again, I thank you for your willingness to help my students learn more about biology. With the C-Fern lab experience, I am confident my students will do well on the genetics section of the end-of-year exam. Additionally, many of the enthusiastic students may even consider careers in science after working with the C-Fern organisms.”

I thank you all so much for the generosity you have shown to my students and me. My students were so excited about the fact that individuals they have never met care enough to donate a listening center and an amazing listening library to go with it. They wanted me to pass on their "hellos" and "thank yous."
The materials donated are a huge hit. Many students have new favorite books and are increasing their reading fluency, especially with the quick-paced song books and Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham. Students are also able to listen to their Open Court stories, making the reading more enjoyable and increasing understanding of the stories.
The listening center is used during daily workshop and very often at free time during the week. This is an opportunity that was not possible without your help. My students and I give you many thanks for showing that schools with limited resources are not forgotten and amazing individuals are out there making a difference for our nation's children.”
Word cannot begin to express the impact that your generous donation has had on my classroom. The LCD projector that you donated to has revolutionized my classroom. With the technology, directions are clearly posted, exercises are more enriched, and students are able to visualize the books that we read. I use the LCD projector everyday in both my English 1 classes and AP Lit.&Comp. class.
My school is being closed this upcoming year, and your donation has allowed my students to experience a world of education that they would not have access to generally. I hope to continue teaching in the city next year at a new school, where your gift will continue to impact children in high-needs areas. Thank you so much for your generosity”

It's a wonderful thing to see children get excited to come to school. The children who received the activity books and coloring books you helped to purchase as attendance incentives were thrilled with their rewards, but what stayed with me more from the day we distributed them was a little boy in our pre-Kindergarten class. The day the books were given out, his grandmother was picking him up early for a doctor's appointment and he was resisting strenuously. She was very confused, as were those of us standing near by, until he announced that he didn't want to be marked absent. We assured him that he still had perfect attendance so far for March, and he willingly left.
For a four year old, a tangible reward makes attendance meaningful, makes coming to school all the more exciting. We hope that in time he'll understand how learning is its own reward, but in the meantime, his presence in school everyday means we can teach him that.
We and the children are deeply appreciative for your commitment to helping those you don't know, those who are not necessarily part of your community. It's not entirely accurate to say they have to be here to learn; our students learn plenty on the streets that we'd rather they didn't. But to gain the knowledge they need to have a better future, our children do need to be in school, and you've helped us achieve that. Thank you.”

Thank you all for your support of me and my students in helping purchase an LCD projector. I have been using the projector to show my senior students how to navigate university websites to find valuable information. This has been an awesome classroom experience for us because it gives the students an opportunity to ask questions - big and small - about college life that they either were too afraid to ask before or didn't even realize they had. At the same time, they are learning an important 21st century life skill in learning how to use the Internet purposefully. Thank you again for your support with this project. ”
