  • iPads for Students with Autism

    Funded Nov 2, 2010

On behalf of the many students with autism and other developmental disabilities at out school, I am writing to offer the most sincere thanks for your kindness and generosity. Through your gift of two iPads, our school is better equipped to provide our students with highly motivating and engaging learning activities that encourage and inspire appropriate social interactions and communication. Already, we have begun to see the impact of this technology in our classrooms, and students are requesting the presence of the iPads in lessons and activities throughout the day.

Students with autism have difficulties with social interaction, language and communication, and adaptive behaviors. These iPads are addressing these (and other) areas of need by providing a highly motivating and reinforcing technological aspect to lessons and activities, and they are providing a reward for appropriate and positive behaviors. Students are learning to share and take turns, to interact appropriately together, and to exhibit appropriate behaviors in attempts to earn time with this technology. Moreover, we have already seen students using the iPads as augmentative, alternative communication devices, as well as for meaningful learning opportunities in all core academic areas.

I cannot express how thankful I am, along with all of my colleagues and all of our students, for your kind and thoughtful donation. It is thanks to you and your kindness that we have been able to improve the educational environment for our students, and this improvement will affect our classrooms and our students for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kijowski

My students absolutely love science and I know they will be more engaged and able to connect with the content on a more meaningful level because of your support.

Again, thank you for helping my student pursue their passions and connect to the world around them!”

  • What's Flowin' On? Water Quality Testing Kits

    Funded Nov 9, 2010

On behalf of my students, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting my students by donating to my classroom projects of Water Sampling Test Kits. The money you have spent has gone to help foster student learning, premier leadership, and personal growth my students. Being their teacher, I know the hard work and dedication these students have put into having a successful school year. My students come from low income families across the central valley of California. Due to financial constraints on both the district and parents, most of my students have had little experience with lab activities. Being in a predominantly agricultural based area, I believe it is extremely important for my students to understand the valuable soil we have here in the valley. By teaching these students about water conservation we can help to preserve water quality allowing our region to continue producing out an abundance of a safe and quality food products for our country to enjoy. To this point, we have never had water testing kits available for the use of our students. The students will now have the opportunity to test for contaminate levels in the water that surrounds their homes.

Our mission statement states that, agriculture education makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through vocational education. There is no question that the knowledge they have gained through the soil testing lab will benefit them throughout their lives. Again, thank you so very much. Your kindness is greatly appreciated by my students and me. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams-Hopper
