We Love To Paint!
Funded Sep 21, 2009Forgive me for taking so long to update you regarding the painting projects that you so generously funded for my students. We have had a very busy fall here at school. In addition to the donorschoose grant, we applied for a local grant to fund a music/dance residency in the spring. We should find out our status any day now!
The children, needless to say, were so excited to begin painting--for many of them, in fact, it was their first experience with paint. As you can well imagine, the sensory engagement with the materials provided the students with an experience well outside their typical school routine. I am quite convinced that the planning, motivation and follow-through involved in making art enhanced their academic skills.
I told the children, and continue to remind them, that good people, like the individuals who donated their art supplies, make good things happen in the world. I want them to maintain a healthy sense of gratitude and to not for a moment take for granted the gifts and opportunities that come ones way in life. I also remind them that they, too, have the capacity to do great things in this world.
In closing, I want to wish all of you much peace and joy during this holiday season. I hope that you and your families and friends will enjoy the pleasures that come with it, and will experience good health and happiness in 2010!”
With gratitude,
Ms. R.
