  • Extreme Library Makeover!

    Funded Nov 8, 2012

Thank you so very much for the generous donation you made to our classroom. The students were so thrilled when the new books arrived, and I want you to know that you put big smiles on all of their faces!

The new books have been added to our classroom library, and the students have been checking out more and more library books each week. The leveled readers allow students to choose books that are at their reading level. This ensures that they will be able to read the text as well as comprehend what they are reading. The leveled readers are placed in separate "team" baskets, allowing the children to choose the books that are appropriate for them.

We are so lucky to now have a variety of biographies and fairy tale books to enhance our focus on these literary genres. We really appreciate your kindness, and we cannot thank you enough for giving our classroom library the makeover it needed. Please know that you have made a positive impact on the education experience of many students. We are thankful for you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brady

  • New Readers Combat Bullies with Technology

    Funded Oct 26, 2012

I would like to personally thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The ASUS Tablet and Bullying in the Classroom books have helped change how I teach, manage, and provide useful technology to my struggling and low-income students. Many of my students do not have updated technology in the classroom. To be able to connect technology and bullying in the classroom is amazing!

We have been able to use the tablet and books to work on communicating with each other and it really helps with my students with social skills. We've had a fun and educational time playing games like memory, addition and subtraction problem games, letter sounds, and team building skills.

Our school district is facing a huge budget shortfall and to have you guys supporting us is invaluable. As a teacher it makes me smile that we have companies like you who still believes in us and our children in hopes of changing our future in a positive way. Thank you again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Ramos

  • We're Reading Buddies Not Bullies With Townsend Press

    Funded Nov 8, 2012

I am so grateful for the generous donations you made to this project. The items arrived and students could not wait to get their hands on the books. I opened the box, showed the children the books, talked about the titles and took pictures. Then we passed the books around so they could feel them. I wish you could have seen their excitement.

The books are a wonderful addition to our classroom. Each of the books was purchased because students voted for them. They were the books that students had heard about and wanted to read. Prior to this project, my students were not very interested in reading. There was nothing very appealing in our classroom. That all changed with your donation.

The books which you helped to purchase are providing my students with the opportunity to learn more about the process and mechanics of reading. Books like Mercy Watson, Stuart Little, and Junie B. Jones are helping to make the English language come alive for my second graders. My students live in a low-income neighborhood and do not have access to books or local public libraries. Their parents want them to have the best, but can't afford much more than the essentials. Second grade is so very important. It is where students should develop independent reading skills.

I am using Bullying in Schools to teach students how to deal with bullies. I am using the chapter books as part of an in-class reading buddy group. These are wonderful resources. Thank you for supporting my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ramsey

  • We Have Listening Ears but we Need MP3 Players

    Funded Nov 19, 2012

Let me begin by saying how very thankful I am for your support of this project.

As the librarian at a small, urban elementary school with a significant number of military dependents, I struggle to provide learning opportunities for all my students. My school is an old school and has limited resources. Although many of my students have limited access to technology, they are still expected to be successful readers, writers, and producers of presentations.

When I requested the MP3 players I had no idea how much of difference they would make. We are learning how to use the players so students can listen to stories during their daily reading intervention time. It is exciting to see my students listening to stories and developing their vocabulary, reading, and listening skills.

Thank you for giving me the tools to help my struggling readers.”

  • My Guys Really Need New Books

    Funded Nov 1, 2012

My students were delighted when they learned that our project was funded but that was nothing compared to their emotions when the book box arrived. We opened the box to discover forty fabulous series books. The paperback covers were so enticing. They were colorful, graphic, sometimes gory and just what the guys wanted. They were snapped up by my third graders. I cannot tell you the excitement that these new books generated. Who could resist reading about Dinosaur Cove mysteries, Humphrey the Hamster, The Stone Rabbit series or the Roscoe Riley Rules series?

I cannot thank you enough for choosing to support this project. We alternate a lesson from Bullying in Schools and shared reading where one of the boys gets to read or talk about a part of his book that he really liked.

These books are like potato chips, you cannot stop at one, you have to keep going. They are a wonderful addition to our library. My nonreaders are turning into readers all because of your donation. We are learning to read and discuss and we are learning about each other. We are becoming a team.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. H.
