David Burke's Mustache

Part of: Ariba Growers
  • $155raised
  • 5projects funded
  • 5schools served
  • 5teachers supported
It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. Except that the mustache in question will undoubtedly be super-awesome in addition to being ridiculous. hide
  • Help Us Beautify Our Courtyard With Art

    Funded Mar 19, 2010

I would like to start with a big THANK YOU! Your donation to this project provided my students to work in a medium that they had not experienced before this project. The stepping stones were absolutely beautiful.

Students started out creating a simple sketch. Students recreated the sketch by embedding glass pieces into cement. This was a project that all of the students were anxious to take home. I had to practically beg them to let me display them in the art show because they wanted to have the stepping stones back right of way!

The stepping stone kits are also the gift that will keep on giving. All of the molds are reusable which means that classes in the future will also have the ability to make this project and I'm sure they will be just as excited as this last group. Thank you again for your generosity.”

  • Louder Than Words

    Funded Feb 23, 2010

Thank you so much for all of your generosity. These books have made such a huge impact on the school community. We were able to distribute the books to each staff member from administrators, teachers, secretarial staff, custodians, and even cafeteria employees! The information and real world account described in the book was able to increase knowledge and provide an understanding of just how much the parents we serve with children on the autism spectrum go through each and every day. Hopefully, the knowledge staff was able to gain will lesson the daily struggle many of our parents go through to advocate for their child!

My parents were so appreciative of the generosity of so many people through donors choose. Many of my parents felt that the story they were reading was parallel in so many ways to theirs. If we could bring about increased compassion and understanding in one person.....and they could help bring about change in another.....and them for another.......what a greater world we'd be !

I am so appreciative. My staff is appreciative. My parents are appreciative.

My students thank you from the bottom of their hearts!”

  • Method Books for Aspiring Young Band Members

    Funded Feb 25, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations. The students really enjoy playing from the new band method books you helped to purchase. They are very colorful and have many great songs for the students to learn. The CD and DVD that came with each book also helps to reinforce the students musical growth and experience. I can already hear improvements in many of the students playing.

I was really blown away by the amount of donors that came forward to support music in the schools. Again, thank you so much for your generosity and support. ”

  • Bringing German Into the 21st Century Classroom

    Funded Mar 17, 2010

Thanks so much for your generous donation. The kids and I use the new projector every single day and it brings our classes to life. We are able to see Germany and German culture in up-to-date ways that aren't possible without technology. I am able to assign many more interactive assignments and let the kids do the work to show what they are able to do instead of me lecturing all the time. Your donation has made a great improvement in our classroom environment and will do so for years to come. Danke!!”

    With gratitude,

  • Technology for Teaching!

    Funded Feb 25, 2010

Thank you all for your generous donations! I wish you would be able to see the impact that your donations have made, but since you can't see it firsthand, let me tell you. The children were so amazed to get the big boxes in the mail. We stopped class (just for a few minutes) to open them up. It was amazing.

Now that we have these new tools, I am able to be a better teacher. A lot of our reading lessons are now more engaging because of the projector. We studied for our PSSA's (our state standardized test) on the projector.

I also want to thank you for enabling me to purchase a new CD player. Previous to the new one, I had brought in an old one from my house, and it was not nearly loud enough! That is, if it even worked at all. (My kids always joked and asked my CD player if it felt like playing our story that day!)

Your kind and generous donations made such an impact in my classroom, and I am brought to tears to think of your kindness. It's nice to know that people out there care about my kids just as much as I do. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DeFazio

  • Moving Makes Me Happy and Healthy

    Funded Mar 25, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. Since we have received the items that I requested in my project, we have become so much more active in the music room and at recess! We love using the bean bags in the lower grades to work on beat, rhythm and balance, and my middle school students are very enthusiastic about performing a dance with the Tinikling Poles at the end of the year.

The best part of your gift is that my students have learned about the importance of philanthropy and how the kindness of others makes an impact in the lives of so many. We have discussed your generosity and how you gave to my project to afford them supplies that they would not have had otherwise.

So thank you for being a partner in the character education and fitness education of my students. We will enjoy these items for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Joyce

  • Students "on the road" to good character...

    Funded Mar 3, 2010

I would like to express my deep gratitude and the thankfulness of my students for your generous donations. Having the camera and photo printer in my classroom has really enabled the "Road to Good Character" to come alive in a consistent and student-centered way! I taught all students how to use the equipment and they are doing so very carefully and respectfully. They are helping each other to use the camera and printer properly when they are chosen to be the "photographers" and "print experts" that prepare the week's Good Character Nomination Forms to add to the "road".

All students are very motivated the use the camera and printer. Since I only allow students to use the equipment if they are following directions, on task, and doing good work, I believe that in many cases, having the program in full effect is having a indirect impact on student achievement, in addition to behavior.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of the program for me personally has been the sense of community that has been built between all students, among various "groups" of friends. Students have truly been seeking out others displaying good character, and their nominations have been among all other students, not just their best friends.

Again, I can't thank you enough for helping to implement this program in my classroom. I am very passionate about character education, and the lack thereof possible with rigid public school curriculum Therefore, this is a easy, quick, and student centered routine that I can implement in my classroom. I believe using the equipment will also build student responsibility in the long term.

    With sooooooo many thanks!

  • Getting Techie With It

    Funded Apr 23, 2010

Thank you all for your generous donation for my project. I am truely excited about the possibilities that having this project funded has brought to my school. Your donation will allow my students to have access to 21st century technology skills. Students will be able to use this tool for many purposes including reading skills.

Again, without your contribution this project would not be possible. I can not wait to introduce this to my students.”

  • Wii Music

    Funded Feb 26, 2010

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous donation to this project. Some of the equipment is still on back-order, so my students are anxiously awaiting it's arrival. This WII gaming system will give my students a chance to be creative and have some fun in music class. The WII music game will reinforce many of the music concepts we learn in class. Many of my students have never played the WII before and are so appreciative of the opportunity to learn how it works. They really couldn't believe that people would donate so much money for them to have something to use in school. It was a great conversation about how people help each other out. So, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share that lesson with them. Thank you again for being so generous!”

  • Furniture Needed for Reading Circle

    Funded Feb 15, 2010

Thank you once again to our fabulous donors! So many of you donated to this project, in order to support reading in school. Thanks for your wonderful generosity. We expect to receive the futon very soon, and I can't wait to share pictures of my students with you.

I pride myself on teaching my students about the benefits of philanthropy, and it warms my heart to receive donations from so many giving people. My students truly learn about the spiritual rewards of giving through this website, and through their own charity work in the school's community.
