It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Writer's Notebooks for 8th Grade English Class Memoir Unit

    Funded Nov 30, 2009

The 2009-2010 school year is coming to a close and I wanted to take a moment to thank you for you generosity in helping me fund a project for my students. With your help, I was able to give 120 students their own notebook for a unit on memoir writing. The notebooks served as journals and students learned how to become stronger writers through writing everyday.

As a result of your donation, my students had the opportunity to reflect and discover the pleasure of remembering stories and sharing them with other people. Thank you for your kindness. On behalf of all of my students, your gift was greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Goodroad

  • Word Wizards

    Funded Dec 21, 2009

Thank you so much for the contribution you made on behalf of our class! Thanks to you my students were able to create their very own Word Wizard "Picture Dictionary" by using alphabetized page templates and the 3 ring binders that you helped to purchase for our class. Students added each of their weekly vocabulary words to their word wizard binders, wrote a sentence using each word, and drew a picture to help show the meaning of each word added. This made learning new words fun for our class. At the end of the school year, students will be given extra page templates and encouraged to continue to add new words over the summer. It is very important for students to learn thousands of new words each year in order for their comprehension skills to keep up with their grade level. Because of your support, students did an outstanding job on the vocabulary section of their standardized 2nd grade test. Without your help our goal of learning at least 1000 new words in 2nd grade would not have become a reality. Please allow me to tell you how thankful my students are. One of my students stated that Donors Choose is like a "Fairy God Mother" for teachers and students. Another student says ask Donors Choose when I tell them that we don't have something that our class wants or needs. It makes them feel good to know that someone is there to support their academic needs. My students will get to keep their personal dictionaries at the end of this school year along with the many memories they created each day while using the binders that you helped to provide. Our entire class truly appreciates your generous donations and we hope that the same blessings of kindness and generosity that you have shown to us will be bestowed upon you. There are many people in many places that you could have chosen to help but you chose our class. Your philanthropy will never be forgotten.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Berkley

  • Strategies for Success!

    Funded Dec 3, 2009

Thank you so much for your help in donating to my project. Comprehension is a very difficult skill for my students to master because it can often be abstract. The games and centers that you helped to fund make comprehension much more hands-on for them. My students really enjoy them and have begun to request that we work with them.

It means so much to me that you took the time to read my proposal and donate to my project. This year has been a very difficult financial year for school systems and it is the fun manipulatives and games that my children need so much that have been cut. Thank you again for taking the time to support my students and those with Special Needs.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. D.

  • Books!

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

Thank you so much for helping fund a project that brought interesting books to the students in my classroom. Since this project was funded, 27 students who had never read a book "for fun" in their lives, finished a book completely independently.

Some students are asking to take the books home to finish them for homework, even though they won't complete any other assignments outside of school. I have witnessed a miracle in my classroom, and it would not have been possible without your support.

From the bottom of my heart, and the hearts of my students, I want to thank you for your generous donation that brought books to children who would have otherwise gone without. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Welsh

  • Life Lessons That Stick Like Glue!

    Funded Dec 3, 2009

Thank you, thank you, thank you for our glue sticks! WE LOVE THEM!!!!!!! My kids have completed so many awesome activities that help us become better learners! We have decorated our room and our hall with our fabulous work.

Glue sticks are such a necessity in 2nd grade! Unfortunately, we go through them so fast! Your donations helped us to get PLENTY of the large glue sticks. Not only will these glue sticks carry us through until the end of the year, but they should also get us off to a great start next year!

I want you to know that your donations have made a difference in our lives here at school. Glue sticks may seem mundane to some, but I like to make learning fun and active for my kids. All those "doing" lessons require a lot of glue!

So, thank you so very much for helping me to help my kids. You guys are the best!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Griffith

  • Helping Inner City Students Understand Hispanic Culture

    Funded Nov 28, 2009

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation. As you are all aware, I teach in the area of the country where we don't receive a lot of funding for additional items in the classroom (such as textbooks, etc.). They all enjoyed the story in the book and had an enjoyable time reading it!!! Not only were they able to practice their reading skills, but they also were able to understand cultures and ideas that were foreign to them before they started reading the book. Muchisimas Gracias!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Hunter

  • We Need Art Supplies! Please!

    Funded Dec 7, 2009

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations. My students cherish the art supplies that you have allowed for them to play and learn with. They adore the playdough and have explored with it in so many ways. They have made letters, snakes, spaghetti, snowmen, cities, forests, etc with the play dough. We use the pipe cleaners to make letters and do various art projects. The foam letters are one of the most used resources in my classroom. They are just constantly naming letters, sounds, and creating words with them.

My students have very little and they feel very special in my class. We have talked various times about the donations and they are so grateful. They are elated that people believe in them as students and their academic possibilities! They tell me each day, "Ms. Savage I am on the way to college. I just need to keep learning to read and write!".

Your gracious gifts have impacted the lives of my students and will continue to each day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stern

  • Never Been Absent!

    Funded Dec 7, 2009

Thank you so much for your donation to our school. We are so grateful for your support of our attendance initiative. This year we have been able to see our attendance steadily increase, despite the impact of the Swine Flu and the horrible winter that we faced. Our attendance has remained above our goal of 94% for every month since we started the program. The students love the incentives that we have been able to offer them individually and as classrooms. Giving classrooms the opportunity to win a basketball helped our classrooms to work together towards a common goal. It taught them teamwork and it also helped to reinforce the importance of coming to school every day. Thank you again for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. D.

  • Bring light to the world of math

    Funded Dec 3, 2009

This note cannot fully express the gratitude that I feel for your contribution to my classroom, but hopefully it will be a start. The LCD projector you donated is used during class practically everyday. The impact it has had on my students has been enormous. Since the projector has become part of our lessons, student engagement during the introduction of new material has greatly increased. Students have also benefited from more engaging Math games that the projector has made possible (Jeopardy and "trashketball" are class favorites).

The increase in interest has translated into real results in student learning. Since you brought the projector into our classroom, there has been a marked increase (almost 25%) in the number of students completing their class notes. More students are writing their own notes, instead of just copying examples; meaning students are actually processing information. Most importantly, there has been a nearly 20% increase in average quiz scores since the projector became part of our daily routine.

Your donation is making a real difference in my students' education, and it certainly couldn't have happened without you. The budget at our school is so tight that teachers are expected to provide their own paper. Without your generosity there would simply be no way to enjoy the benefits of having an LCD projector in our class.

Your assistance is critical to helping student acquire both the math and note-taking skills that they need to be successful in the rest of high school, college, and beyond. Thank you so much for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sotkowitz

  • Group Work, Yes! Supplies, No...

    Funded Dec 16, 2009

I am truly appreciative of your donations to my classroom. The Crayola markers, dry erase markers, bright paper, and organization cart with drawers have made a colorful contribution to the education of my students.

As we learn new vocabulary, student work in groups to define each word and use it in context. They then create a small poster that is posted in the classroom. Then we have a gallery walk, during which students view the all of the posters and record information about their new vocabulary words. The rainbow of markers you have donated allow my students to truly show their creative and critical thinking.

Your donation of dry erase markers helps to review reading skills and vocabulary. In order to "show what they know", students write their answers on personal dry erase boards and then hold them up to share with the class. This is a favorite activity in my classroom, and students have loved using the new color markers that easily erase.

In our photos, you will see my students using and enjoying your contributions. Your kindness has truly made a difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kulesz
