It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Method Books for Aspiring Young Band Members

    Funded Feb 25, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations. The students really enjoy playing from the new band method books you helped to purchase. They are very colorful and have many great songs for the students to learn. The CD and DVD that came with each book also helps to reinforce the students musical growth and experience. I can already hear improvements in many of the students playing.

I was really blown away by the amount of donors that came forward to support music in the schools. Again, thank you so much for your generosity and support. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Snyder

  • Learning to Listen, Love, and Laugh: "The Tuesdays Project"

    Funded Feb 6, 2010

I am so thankful for the opportunity that you granted for my students to be involved in "The Tuesdays Project." On May 3 and 4, we boarded school buses to travel to two local nursing homes. Students, equipped with smiles and trepidation, were grouped in trios to meet the residents and learn about their lives.

The project began a few days before our visit, however. The first task I asked my students to do was write letters to their assigned residents. I printed them out on the stationery you provided for us, and delivered them to each facility two days before our visit. I was happy to see that many of the residents brought the letters with them to the visit and were excited to meet the teens who had written to them.

When we returned from our visit, we began composing a "class movie." Students are still working on this, but we will finish by the end of the year. Using video editing software, along with the flash drives and microphones that you provided for us, students were able to create expressions of thanks for the residents they visited. Some have even expressed an interest to return to visit with their residents again.

Next week, I will deliver a DVD of our "class movie" to each of the residents and to the activity director of each facility. They plan on having a "movie night" to watch the videos.

Once again, I would just like to take this opportunity to express my thanks. This project could not have been a success if it had not been for your generous gift.

    Thank you for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rolinson

  • We'd Be A Lot GREATER If.... We Could Have...

    Funded Mar 26, 2010

My students and I were so incredibly excited for all of the wonderful resources for our classroom! It was like Christmas morning opening the box full of goodies and then Christmas morning once again watching my students' faces light up as I showed them our new tools for learning! We have had a blast utilizing the individual student timers with both reading and math activities. My students love the idea of becoming more self-dependent and the timers help them to become more self-aware of their time on task and progress in both reading and math fluency. The classroom timer helps the class as a whole become more focused and they like the rewards that they earn when they spend more time on task. The headsets have truly become a class favorite as students may now play educational games on our classroom computers that they couldn't play before because the sounds were too distracting to the rest of the class. Their absolute favorite educational tool has been the classroom Plinko game for practicing nonfiction reading comprehension! We have turned the game into a whole class game with teams by also using our

SMARTboard and document camera! The kids love reading these short passages and explaining how they can prove their answers with their teams. All of these wonderful resources have helped my class to become more motivated and self-driven. I look forward to using all of these with future classes, so that others may reap the benefits of all of your generosity! Thank you over and over again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sturgeon
