It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. Thank you so much for your interest in education, and for your willingness to make a valuable contribution to help foster this great process. Mark Van Doren said, "The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." As you help to make an impact in the lives of children, know that you may be helping to shape and mold the lives of many great leaders to come. Elbert Hubbard said, "What people need and what they want may be very different... Teachers are those who educate the people to appreciate the things they need."
The students greatly appreciated the class room materials that were donated.
Thanks again for your generosity and interest in education.”
How to have a massive impact on the learning of science? Start with the basics. What could be more basic than the measurement of mass. You have helped provide my students with the means of measuring mass and, hence, have made a massive impact on my students learning.
Since there arrival we have used the triple beam balances almost daily. They proved essential to both 7th and 8th grades completing their district mandated science inquiries, "Buoyancy and Density" and "Water Holding Capacity of Different Soils". My students have truly benefited from the tactile "Click, Click, Slide" of seeing an object balance into a measurement. They seen the importance of math concepts "less than, greater than", place values and decimal places in arriving at a result.
As you know budgets for education are constrained. The balance scales were items for which we simply did not have the funds. Because of your generosity, we were able to acquire the equipment and pursue science the way it should be- hands on and sometimes dirty.”
I would like to express my sincere thanks for your donations to my project to purchase a digital camera for my classroom. We have used the camera almost daily to photograph students at work and play.
We have taken pictures of student work, posters and bulletin board displays to share with parents who are unable to regularly visit our classroom. We have used it to add photos to stories and reports, including the pictures I have posted, which show students attempting to uncover "crime scenes" such as who threw the garbage on the floor, who spilled water all around the drinking fountain, and who left their stuffed Pug on the floor by the lockers. Students are more excited to tackle these projects thanks to our new camera.
Next year our school district faces a $19 million dollar budget shortfall, like many other districts around the country. Your generosity helps ensure that our students don't go without adequate tools that teach valuable skills during these times of financial insecurity.”
Wow, are we going to have fun learning anatomy with these guys! We received a life-sized skeleton that hangs on a stand and a life-sized floor puzzle skeleton. Both of the skeletons have enough pieces for several children to work on them at the same time, and both have different levels of difficulty for the differing skills in my class.
These donations were impetus for the fourth grade teachers to develop a whole new unit on bones. We got activities, reading materials, and of course these two skeletons put together in a tote that will be used by all three of us for years to come.
I cannot thank you enough for your generosity towards people you don't even know. I assure you it is appreciated, valuable, and useful.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Nicholl

I am writing to thank you for your generous contribution to our school's learning center. As one of the school's special education teachers, I support students in general education classrooms who are eligible for special education services under many different eligibilities. When I began my job this year, my classroom contained only a few older board games. There were no books, math manipulatives, or reading materials.
My students range from kindergarten through eighth grade, and it is imperative that I have a wide array of materials and activities in order to reach students of so many different capabilities and developmental levels. In my job, the best days are those in which students finally "get it," and the materials you provided offer another opportunity for this to happen. It is a wonderful thing to be able to reach over and take something off the shelf when a teachable moment happens.
I am truly grateful for your support of our learning center classroom. I am humbled that you chose to contribute to students who need extra support and alternative ways to approach problems and tackle academic tasks. I use the items you helped to purchase every day, and our students are the real beneficiaries.
”
With gratitude,
Teacher
