It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Little Sprouts Growing Vegetables: Where Do We Get Our Food?

    Funded Mar 14, 2011

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for the planting supplies you have provided to our classroom. We have used them to plant and grow four different kinds of vegetables: lettuce, tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers. The students learned a great deal about how plants grow, and they have come to understand how dependent we are on plants.

Our school is not able to provide supplies such as these to us, and my students' families do not have the money to contribute to the cost of these supplies. We deeply appreciate being able to use the planting supplies to give our class a hands-on experience that taught them practical skills and gave them a deeper understanding of the world.

    Thank you for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Van Neste

  • S.O.A.R. Garden - Seeds Of A Revolution

    Funded Feb 17, 2011

Materials received aided our dreams of a sustainable garden closer to reality. Shovels were used by our parents and classroom teachers to dig holes to plant twelve fruit trees in our new orchard. After the holes were dug and trees placed, our 2nd - 5th grade students helped plant. Today all twelve trees are flourishing and three are bearing small fruit! Students check "their" trees daily and have learned patience while gaining a greater appreciation of nature. Gardening opens the door to other valuable lessons.

Along with teaching the children the virtue of patience, gardening will also teach our students about a healthy lifestyle. It's amazing that many children do not know where corn comes from, often they believe it comes from a can. Now, with your generous donation, they can see an actual cornstalk and taste the fruits/vegetables of their labor. Even if the garden teaches children what dirt actually feels like, it has served its purpose. In an immediate society, the act of growing teaches patience and caring for the earth. Lessons that are not part of the standardized curriculum, are revealed by Mother nature.

One of the goals of our S.O.A.R. garden is to produce enough food to supplement the cafeteria and then the community. Agri-Science will eventually become part of the curriculum. Teachers are encouraged to hold class outside in the garden, as nature is full of lessons in science, literature, math, etc.. However, without caring individuals(donors), our S.O.A.R. garden would only be a dream. Thank you again on behalf of my students and myself for making our dream a reality.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
