  • First Grade Botanists: Learning All About Plants

    Funded Nov 28, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my classroom. The students had an absolute amazing time learning about plants.

All of the materials truly made the topic of plants come alive for students. My students came in each morning and begged to do science first thing so they could learn more about plants. Many of my students continue to ask me if we can continue to study plants. Thank you for helping me inspire a new generation of scientists!

Thank you for helping me teach my students in a fun, engaging, and hands on way! You truly made a difference in their education!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Allen

  • Molding Magnificent Mathematicians

    Funded Dec 1, 2011

We can not believe how much support we received from donors like you! My students and I were so excited when the boxed of Math games, learning centers, and manipulatives arrived. I spread them out on a table for the students to marvel over. The excited it generated was priceless. Immediately, they wanted a chance to explore with the Math materials. We used the materials the very next day. Some of them were used during indoor recess and small group rotation, while other materials were used to enhance instruction through manipulatives. Again, we appreciate your support.”

  • The Stolen Cells of Henrietta Lacks!

    Funded Oct 21, 2011

I am so touched and grateful for the funding of our project. Henrietta Lacks' story has helped launch an educational journey that my students will not soon forget.

By funding these books, you have given a great opportunity to my students. These books have encouraged my students to become stronger readers and more effective critical thinkers; they have encouraged them to become advocates for their own health and the health of their loved ones and communities. Without you, this real-life application could not be possible, and valuable science (and life) lessons would be lost.

I am thrilled to be able to share this inspiring experience with my students and colleagues. Thank you so much for your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mucha

  • Science Books and Kits To Increase Scientific Thinking!

    Funded Dec 5, 2011

Thank you so much for the science supplies and books! My students have an old circuit kit that we had been using to describe open and closed circuits, and could create a few lights and sounds. Now, with this new kit, we can extend our thinking of closed circuits to create more challenging projects. Students are even diagramming circuit schematics! Also, I want to thank you for the science books. My students have a plethora of fiction in the classroom. But, for those students who enjoy reading about animals and "how-to" books, they are able to read more of what is interesting to them in the non-fiction realm.

    Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. H.

  • Bridge Builders

    Funded Nov 28, 2011

Many thanks to each of you. You have brought one of the coolest projects of the year to my super students. I was reading over one of their thank-you notes today and saw where one of my young ladies included that this project will help her to understand engineering- which she wants to do when she is an adult. This is coming from a very promising student, who has her fair share of obstacles in her path. If that isn't enough to me you happy that you donated, I don't know what is. I really appreciate your help. My students will benefit from the experience, and from the lifetime of interest it helps to develop. You are great!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Hartman

  • Blossoming Brains Broadened By Beholding Biology

    Funded Oct 24, 2011

I started the year off with barely any science supplies in my science classroom. With your generous donations, we've added a microscope, many slides, and a wonderful bookshelf for our classroom library. Thank you so much.

I can say with no uncertainty that our hands-on activities are by far the favorites of my students. They have such a fun time interacting with various science materials, with which many of them have rarely been able to interact in the past, that several students have expressed to me that those are their favorite lessons. It can be hard to get students to pay attention when I am giving them notes, but when using our microscopes, the students could not be more focused.

It makes such a difference in the level of engagement students experience with the material as well. They appreciate learning with hands-on activities, and being able to look under microscopes is quintessential science.

Thank you so much. Your donations and good will have gone a long way, and will continue to go a long way, towards changing the lives of my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cross

  • Attracted To Science

    Funded Nov 24, 2011

Thank you just doesn't seem enough. You have helped me bring to life the magic of magnets in my classroom. It has always been a favorite science unit of my students but for the first time they are experiencing hands on instead of watching. Since I started this unit the first thing I am asked everyday is how long to science, and what are we doing today. It also has been wonderful to see my students take ownership with the magnets, making sure all pieces stay together and cleaning up so nothing gets left behind. I have used the books order with this project as a cross curriculum approach to teaching. My students are reading, writing and conducting experiments hands on with all of the supplies. This next week we are getting ready to do our magnetic boat races!

With so much of the focus of our instruction spent on "No Child Left Behind" and all of the funding being spent toward improving test scores, I don't think I would have ever gotten the materials I needed to effectively teach this science unit. I just wish all of you could be apart of our classroom and truly see the gift you gave as my students are learning and loving science.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lane

  • Super Science Experiments!

    Funded Nov 8, 2011

Thank you so much for your kind donation to my Donor's Choose Project. Using the supplies you helped purchase, my students were able to conduct their own research investigation into the type and quantity of bacteria found in different locations of the their high school. The students developed their own hypotheses, scouted their own locations, and were able to grow and stain the bacterial samples they obtained using the supplies you helped them acquire. My students identified surprising high areas of bacterial contamination in the school (lab benches and football equipment!), wrote formal lab reports on their results and presented them to the class. Without your help, my students would not have been able to conduct this independent research project and make their own discoveries about bacteria in their school.

    Thank you! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Larson

  • Geology Rocks!

    Funded Oct 4, 2011

This is just a short note to thank you for your generous donations. We have used the rocks to understand the differences of metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary rocks and classify them by their properties. Students used the rock samples to test how physical and chemical weathering affect different rock types. We also used them as we discussed the rock cycle and how a rock can transform to a different rock type. Finally we used the center to explore and simulate the process of erosion.

Without your generous donation, the students would not have been able to participate in so many hands-on activities and experiments. The students were engaged and enjoying the learning process. I have no doubt that the students will remember all they learned thanks to your donations.

Because of donors like you, my students will have brighter futures.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gowans
