  • Let's Create a Book Nook!

    Funded Apr 26, 2011

This has been such a generous gift! For a predominately Amish and Mennonite community, the gift of technology is eye opening. This Color Nook has been a huge encouragement for students who don't have a strong interest in reading. It has also inspired students who love to read to work harder to earn "Nook Coupons" for extra time with the Nook.

The Color Nook has also helped me become a better teacher and more in touch with technology. I have recently took the time to learn how to download eBooks from our local libraries, so that we do not have to continue to read the same books over and over or worry about spending money by purchasing eBooks.

This is a gift that will keep on giving! Thank you for being so generous and giving to us! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hostetler

  • Game Time!

    Funded Apr 26, 2011

I can honestly say we have used these games at least once a week since our school year started! The students love them and I appreciate the flexibility they have given me. I can now work with students who need more time and academic attention without worrying about other students being bored and misbehaving.

Many students ask if they can stay in at recess time to play! Additionally, when we have indoor recess, students are choosing to play Gone Fishin' (a game that helps them practice contraction words) instead of playing the traditional Go Fish!

Thank you for encouraging my students and me through these resources!

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hostetler

  • Let's Get Back to the Basics

    Funded Jun 21, 2011

With the anticipation of Christmas, my students have been very energetic!

This morning, I got out a new box of File Folder Games and introduced each one of them. You would think that we were having Christmas early. After explaining each game and asking if there were any questions, I would hear: "Can I play that one?", "Who is going to play that first?", and "Is it time to play now?"

The next 20 minutes, students worked with their partners to play a game, self check, and count pieces to make sure nothing was missing before they traded for a new game. They were practicing: contractions, syllables, rhymes, alphabetical order, compound words, word families, and more!

I can't thank you enough for caring about these students and giving them such a wonderful opportunity to take all their anticipation and energy and put it toward practicing such crucial elementary skills. I know that each student also appreciates what you have done and that you will continue to bring them happiness for many, many days to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hostetler

  • Weekly Growth with Weekly Reader

    Funded Apr 19, 2011

At the end of last school year, you helped fund a project for headphones and a student subscription of Weekly Reader Magazine for each member of my class. Now I am happy to say, "Wow! This project has really had an impact on my students!"

Every Friday, students look forward to our Science and Social Studies time, knowing that they will get their copy of the Weekly Reader Magazine to read and take home. The headphones are used daily at our computer work station.

You have not only helped the students, you have also helped me! Instead of the stress that can come with making sure all of the science and social studies standards are incorporated in the classroom, I can rest assured that the Weekly Reader Magazine will keep me accountable for teaching each State Standard.

I cannot thank you enough for your generosity!”

  • Make Reading Independent and Organized!

    Funded Apr 17, 2011

Words do not express my gratitude for your donation to my project. Thank you for sharing the vision I have for my students and classroom.

Each time a student is able to easily pick up a bin of books to read, I will think of you. Each time a student finds their favorite book to enjoy again, I will think of you. Each time I teach a lesson on genre, I will think of you. Each time a student reaches a new reading level, I will think of you.

I think so highly of all you have done for our class. Thank you so much for your gift. ”

  • Recycle!

    Funded Apr 9, 2011

I compose this letter with a thankful heart. Your generous donation has impacted hundreds of students already and will continue to impact hundreds more in the future. The recycling bins, you have donated, have changed the environment of our school.

My students prepared recycling posters and information to share with each class in our building as we supply them with their very own recycling bin. This Friday, my students were shocked when we gathered all of the paper we normally throw away - and that was just for our class. I can't wait for them to see the amount of paper our school throws away each week.

Without your donation, many of the students would not have seen or understood the impact they have on the world around them. Because of you many of our students are encouraging their families to begin recycling at home as well.

Thank you for making a difference, not only in the lives of my students, but in our school, in our community and in our nation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hostetler
