    Funded Dec 8, 2010

I cannot express my gratitude enough for your generous donation to my classroom. Having powerful Apple computers in here has changed the way my students learn. During our intersession week, students worked on a project called "How to Survive High School." They wrote, performed in, filmed and edited 30 second short videos for incoming 9th graders about what kinds of choices they could make to make the most out of their high school experience.

Perhaps most powerful about these machines is the possibility. Whereas before we were limited by the kinds of computers we had in the building, now, if my students dream up a project (using the Apple to take time-lapse photos of their spider habitats, for example) we can do it. One typically sees this level of choice in private schools. Thank you again for helping to up the ante and give my students the kind of experience you would want for your own children”

  • Art Rocks!

    Funded Dec 9, 2010

I want to take a moment to thank you for your generous donation to our project. The materials that I requested for my class were hand sculpture. The purpose of this project was to help my special education students draw hands from observation. If you look at the pictures that I have uploaded, my students did an excellent job! I was so proud of their accomplishments. The sculptures were very detailed and the students were so intrigued by their realism that it motivated them to make their drawings as accurate as possible. The photographs that I uploaded are evidence of how your generosity helped my special needs sixth graders succeed. Most importantly, they were so proud of themselves and that was my goal for this project! Thank you for helping us achieve our goal!”

  • Help Us Understand Plant Life!

    Funded Dec 11, 2010

I just wanted to thank you for your generous donation of science materials. The non-fiction reproducible books have been of such a great asset. They are used during our science period as well as for homework.

My students love the stamp sets about the parts of a plant. They seem to never get tired of using them, and it is great because it keeps reinforcing what they were taught.

An finally, the life cycle charts have been extremely helpful in showing the children a visual which they can follow. They are used frequently during the lessons and are hanging in the science center as a reference that the students can always go to. Without your kindness all of these materials in my classroom wouldn't have been possible.”

  • Cooking in Kindergarten

    Funded Nov 22, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations toward the purchase of cooking supplies. The students absolutely love lunchtime cooking club! Each student was assigned a day of the week to come to lunch club. They instantly remembered their day to attend, and look forward to it all week. Most mornings, I have at least one student come up to me and remind me it's their lunch club day. One boy excitedly reminds me every day at lunchtime about lunch club, even if it is not his day.

We have already cooked so many things, ranging from cookies, to ants on a log, to biscuits. The students love helping to pour and mix and then watch their creation transform in the oven right before their eyes. They usually ask for the recipe to take home so they can make it again! They have just as much fun eating the cooking project too!

Your support has given my students the opportunity to spend time outside of the challenging lunchroom while they learn nutritious recipes and healthy eating habits. It has also given them a chance to participate in something just for fun during the school day, something that is pretty rare today.

Your generous donation to our classroom has truly made a huge difference! Thanks so much!”

  • Percussion Equipment For Our School Band

    Funded Jan 10, 2011

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The marimba, xylophone, and mallets that you donated have helped my students every day to learn and to play music. We've used them to learn about the layout of the keyboard, to develop coordination, and t learn how to read and play musical notation. The marimba and xylophone are organized like the piano keyboard, so they are able to translate their learning to playing melodies on the piano. The instruments are used in all my music classes during the day, for the band, and musical theatre program after school.

The budget crisis is really difficult for schools these last few years, so with your help, the students will be able to continue to use equipment that enhances their learning. Learning how to read music and play an instrument is a vital part of any student's education. It helps them to learn critical thinking skills that they may not attain without it.

Without donors like you, music programs wouldn't have instruments to provide this vital part of a well rounded education.”

  • We Want To Give Our Regards To Broadway!!

    Funded Dec 31, 2010

Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for providing my students with this incredible experience.  Many of them had never been to see a Broadway Show and, living in New York City, I thought that it was such an important cultural experience for them.  To see their faces as we walked down the streets of Manhattan to the theater was priceless.  They absolutely loved the show and told me that it was the "best thing ever!!!".  They talked about their experience seeing Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark for days and days.  What you have done in providing this experience to these students is beyond selfless.  It is life-changing and I cannot thank you enough.  You are incredible for helping to bring this trip to life for these children.  Thank you! Thank you! Thank you”

  • Recent Immigrants to US Need to Calulate Opportunities

    Funded Dec 4, 2010

Thank you very much for your generous donation of calculators. My students use your calculators almost every day. The calculators have undoubtedly contributed to a successful year in my math classroom.

Each calculator is assigned to a particular student in each class and is labeled with his/her name. I am happy to report that the calculators are treated with respect and none has been damaged or lost. The students take turns counting them at the end of class to ensure that all have been returned.

I remind my students often of your thoughtfulness. I tell them that total strangers are so concerned with their education that they donate resources to help them. It means a lot to my students to think that they have allies in the world. Your example of love and concern is the one of best lessons that my students could ever learn.”

    With gratitude,

  • Materials For Molding MInds

    Funded Dec 3, 2010

Thank you all for supporting and funding my proposal "Materials for Molding Minds." These basic necessities have made a world of a difference within my classroom. The colored markers, crayons, and pencils have helped me to color code items for my English Language Learners. The Lysol wipes have helped keep the classroom a healthy learning environment. I can not express how much all these items have impacted on the children and their work. Each table now has a supply box with pens, pencils, glue, crayons, stapler and so much more. This has helped the classroom run so much smoother since all the materials are at the students' finger tips. Thank you again for your assistance!”

  • Keeping Our Young Scientists Safe As They Explore!

    Funded Dec 5, 2010

I wish to thank you on behalf of my middle school students for the wonderful opportunity you have given them. With the addition of these safety goggles and gloves to our science classroom, my students have been able to think of themselves as real scientists, asking questions and making observations of materials directly in front of them rather than on a screen or chalk board. These opportunities have brought out the best in so many of my students. The simple act of putting on a pair of safety goggles has made even my most uncooperative students begin to ask scientific questions and analyze their observations. It has truly opened up a new world for them.

With my students' beginning to think about their culminating middle school science project, their options are no longer limited by their safety equipment and they now have the ability to develop truly creative and exciting projects. This could only have happened with your help.

As the country focuses on our need to ensure that our students understand the scientific concepts that will help them in the future, thank you for allowing my students to have the opportunity to develop their skills in a safe and exciting way.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kelleher

  • The Instrumental Midsection: Alto Saxophones

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

Thank you so very much for your donation to our music program! The new altos have already been put to good use, and the students who were given the new instruments were incredibly excited and appreciative, and promised to handle them with care!

Maintaining an instrumental program in an urban school has definitely been a challenge for me as a teacher, as all of the instruments have to provided and sustained by the school. I have found that it is very hard for the students to feel any ownership of their instruments when they are sharing with other students, so adding to our instrumental inventory allows more students to have their own, and therefore encourages them to take better care of their instrument – even if it isn't brand new. However, it is always the most thrilling to watch students play on new equipment, and I feel lucky that, because of you and Donors Choose, I am able to have this experience even when there is no money in our budget for new instruments.

Thank you once again for your contribution; please know that you have greatly impacted my students by helping to provide them with a well-rounded, memorable music education. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Vilensky
