I would like to offer an in-school mosaics class to interested students who qualify. I would like to offer an in-school mosaics class to interested students who qualify. I have a number of highly motivated students in my art classes with good behavior, good grades and good attendance who have indicated to me that they would enjoy an in-school mosaic club, for which I will donate my time, and I have glass and glue on hand. I just need a few mosaic supplies in order to start the club. I will limit the club to 15 students so I can give lots of individualized attention to the students. My students are mostly (90%) from low-income families, and to have an after school mosaic club would be a prized activity. Also, this year, there are no funds on line whatsoever to purchase any art supplies, even for the required art classes. There are no funds available at the school, or at home from their families, to learn how to make mosaics. I am willing to teach them on a donation basis, and I have some of the mosaic supplies on hand already. I am only offering this mosaic opportunity to the kids with good attendance, good grades and good behavior--they have earned the reward activity. My students simply cannot afford to go and take a mosaic class; only a few places in Chicago offer them, and my students simply can't pay the tuition. I would love to reward the ones who have already shown me with good behavior, grades and attendance, that they can handle mosaic materials, and many have already indicated to me that they would be interested in an after school mosaic club. It would be an activity whose new skills and knowledge they could take with them, and give them a chance to do something entirely new. All we need is a little grout, aprons, table covers, gloves, and background sheets to get this project going. This project would offer a rewarding experience to the students with an interest, and who have already proven with good grades and good behavior and good attendance that they can handle this extra work and do well. Funding this project will make 15 kids very happy and teach them new skills- how to cut glass, how to design a mosaic, how to glue down the tesserae, how to grout in the finished design, and will give them a chance to feel good about learning something new which was offered to them as a direct result of the good behavior, grades and attendance which earned them this privilege. I can display their work in the school's hallway display cases when they finish, and at the end of the school year, they can take home 3 beautiful mosaic works that they made themselves. The after school activities here give kids a good sense of self and a chance to connect with an adult who cares about them. My in-school mosaic club needs grout, gloves, aprons, table covers, clean acrylic background sheets, and cement. The cost of this proposal is $199, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment. hide
