  • Ribbet, Ribbet! These Frogs Have Croaked!

    Funded Apr 8, 2011

I would like to thank each of you again. The students really enjoyed using the tools you provided, as will the many students in the future. After this activity, the students were better able to compare organs of different vertebrates. Their organ drawings improved a great deal.

I think a few doctors and nurses were born during this dissection. My students were engaged the entire time.

I believe we all fulfilled the dreams and expectations of many students while increasing their knowledge of anatomy.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Langston

  • So Many Books, So Little Space!

    Funded Apr 3, 2011

I can't begin to thank you enough for your generosity. My students were so excited when we first received the chair pockets. They couldn't wait to use them! We established some guidelines for use so that they will remain in good shape for many years to come. The chair pockets come with a transparent sleeve that I can slip a nameplate into which allows students to quickly find their seat. Now I know the books are well taken care of, unlike years before where students had to cram their library books into an overcrowded desk. I am now the envy of many teachers at my school that wish they had chair pockets of their own.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stapleton

  • Little Learners

    Funded May 10, 2011

I would like to thank you very much for all the generous donations towards my project. It is truly inspiring to know that there are people out there like you that believe in the importance of early childhood education. My students deserve the best and with your help, you made that possible!

My students' learning experience is always impacted in a positive way when they receive new classroom materials. With your generous donations, my students received materials that allow them to learn their colors and help them count. So much learning goes on in our classroom when the students have materials that engage them so thank you for providing us with new and exciting things to work with! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Olivia

  • S.T.A.R.S. Run/Walk Club

    Funded Mar 18, 2011

The students at Edison Elementary and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Since we have received the generous donations of equipment for the S.T.A.R.S. Run/Walk Club, the students have begun experiencing the benefits of walking and running. During the last month of school, 5 students from each grade level (25 total), learned how to leap and jump over the hurdles and how to use their bright and shiny batons during relay races. Each of the students decorated their own folders which they used as a Exercise/Food log for the S.T.A.R.S. Run/Walk club. The students recorded their daily exercise and meals and reflected on their journals weekly. They truly enjoyed sharing their journals with their peers during our club meetings. The students collaborated with one another in figuring out ways to increase their frequencies and intensities of exercise as well as how to eat healthier, balanced meals. The students improved their cardiovascular endurance by using the large, colorful cones as markers around the field during their distances runs. I kept track of how many laps the students would run by punching a hole in their index cards each time they circled around the start line.

Your donations to the S.T.A.R.S. Run/Walk club have tremendously enriched the lives of the students participating. I have noticed a boost in their self-esteem as well their levels of confidence. The students love the way that they feel after an hour of walking and running activities. They are encouraging each other to run faster and longer and to not give up when they're tired. Without your donations to our students, my school would not have had the money to buy the equipment needed for the S.T.A.R.S. Run/Walk Club. We will be forever grateful for your caring generosity.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cosentino

  • Signing Time in the Autism Classroom

    Funded Apr 17, 2011

Well today marks the very last day of school and i am sitting in my classroom, cleaning and organizing, and getting it some what ready for the first of August. The last month of school was extremely busy and jam packed with activities! Now that i have a moment of quiet an no students to distract me, i wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for your donation to my project! The kids have absolutely LOVED having access to all our signing times videos in the classroom daily!

The kids (and the teacher and assistants) have picked up a vast array of signs for common objects! We generally will take one of the DVDs and watch part of it daily - over and over for an entire week. The students, despite their diagnosis of Autism and their difficulty sitting still and paying attention to things, are captivated and remain at full attention during our "signing time". I wanted to share with you a few examples of signs of success!

First, a parent came in just last week and said, "Tim keeps saying "Nice to meet you" and signing it! Did YOU teach him that?" Why yes! Alex, Leah (the kids from the video) and i taught him that thanks a donors choose Grant that we had funded! YOU made that happen.

Another student, who is completely nonverbal, can now sign the entire alphabet - and will "mold" the teachers hand to sign along with him. While doing this he will verbalize he sound for each letter! I wish that there was a way to upload video a an example, as he is absolutely adorable as he does this and it melts my heart each time.!

Thank you SO much for helping me to help my students. My non verbal students have gained a way to communicate and through daily practice will expand this ability. My verbal students are picking up new vocabulary with a kinesthetic way to remember it!

Thank you for helping out this teacher to reach her kids in a fun and interactive way!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sprigby

  • Orffins Stand Up

    Funded Apr 5, 2011

Thank you so much for the generosity you showed in donating to my project "Orffins Stand Up". Because of your donation we were able to purchase 8 rolling carts for the Orff instruments in our music room. No longer do the students have to carry instruments which in some cases are as big as they are, or kneel on the floor to play their instruments.

We are actually using the Orff instruments in class much more often than before because they are so much easier to transport now that they are on "wheels". This adds a whole new dimension to our music learning thanks to your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. King

  • Books Build Bridges

    Funded May 1, 2011

Well, the school year is almost over but my students certainly have enjoyed the books you helped purchase for our room. When the books arrived, I held up each one and read the title. Some of the boys and girls are just beginning to read and are already making friends with the new books. Children who cannot yet navigate through all of the words, are able to appreciate the beautiful colorful photographs in each book. Sharing the titles helped to spark an interest in topics that are new to the students.

We want to thank all of you for first, taking the time to go to Donors Choose and then to pick our project to support. I am eager to use these books to help promote literacy for years to come. I promise I will be a good steward of your donation and work hard to make the books jump off the new shelf :-)) and into the hands of the children.

Please never forget that an investment in our children, especially these children of poverty, is a great choice. I constantly remind myself of this as I give so much of my personal time and money to ongoing classroom projects. Thank you for your support and affirmation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bratt

  • Classroom Upgrade

    Funded Mar 11, 2011

Thank you so much for the donations that you have donated to my class. I believe that the children's learning skills have improved based on the way the classroom is set up now. The visuals that they have now really gives them a better view of their newly taught skills.

The calendar wall has helped them learn the days of the week, months, how to count days, etc....

They have improved in many ways. The word walls really give the children a better way of seeing the words used and how they would need to use them. Thank you so much for all your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ramirez

  • Learning with the HP Netbook

    Funded Apr 5, 2011

Thank you very much for your support of this website and education. The HP Mini Netbook has been a great addition to my first grade classroom. The best feature of the Netbook is the small size and mobility. My students can move to different parts of the classroom and use the Netbook. My students searched brainpopjr.com and viewed the Ocean Habitat video, during center activities. We have also used the Netbook to explore Scholastic.com, watching videos and listening to special read aloud sections of that website. My students have been given a great resource that will continue from year to year. Thank you for supporting education! ”

  • Fitness For Girls

    Funded Apr 8, 2011

I would like to express my immense gratitude for the donations made that allowed for the materials that have further aided the fitness for girls program. Many of the young ladies that attend the fitness class are not able to afford a gym membership or even have an opportunity to exercise outside of school. Your donations have enabled the girls to participate in a cardio boxing workout that has aided in their fitness goals. Providing positive and encouraging after school opportunities such as the fitness for girls program would not be possible without the generous donations made to help provide for the equipment used. There is a lack of funding and programs in the urban and struggling school environment in which I have started this program. This program will enable young ladies to live more active and healthier life styles, encouraging fitness and positive after school activities that are beneficial on many levels.

Your cooperation and donations are greatly appreciated!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
