    Funded Dec 22, 2009

I wish to thank you for your generosity in providing our class library with 62 new titles. Both the reluctant and above level readers have all found selections among the new books that are of an appropriate level and high interest. Even the students who don't normally choose reading during "choice" time have been motivated to dive into the new titles.

Kids are recommending books to each other! I am thrilled that several of my "I can't find anything to read" students have begun the first book in a series and asked for more! Several students have even commented that they didn't know reading could be so much fun! Many of the kids are now progressing at a faster rate in their reading development.

With my own class budget I would not have been able to supply this number and variety of titles. It has made all the difference in how enthusiastic my students have become about reading. This new collection has helped me attain my goal of having a class library that truly "has something for everyone". Without your support it would have been several more years before this goal was realized. Thank you again from all of us. ”

  • Clay Time For All

    Funded Nov 19, 2009

My class and I thank you so much for the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of ceramics. We have been busy making all kinds of clay pieces and glazing them. The children have learned the impact that a simple material like clay has had on civilizations for centuries and why it was important to those societies to make these functional "everyday" clay pieces beautiful through artistic techniques such as glazing and etching. They have found a connection with the past and enjoy the idea of the pieces they have made surviving for centuries to come! As a teacher these are great lessons for my students to make connections with. As a faculty member the tools you have supplied my classroom with gives me the flexibility to reach out into the classrooms and make these relevant connections to the curriculum the students are learning outside art. As art shapes the world we live in, this integration plays an invaluable role in making art a seamless and natural part of our students education. My students, my colleagues and I thank you for you generous support in making our school a better, more fun and educational place.”

  • School Supplies Needed Badly!

    Funded Dec 13, 2009

I can hardly put into words how grateful I am for your generous donations to my classroom. As you can see in the photos, my kids are having a lot of fun with the school supplies your money bought. Most kindergarten students are very visual, hands-on learners. The Do-a-Dot markers worked wonders when my students were practicing counting to 30. They would make dots on the paper, count them, then write the number of dots. They had a blast. All you could hear in the room was the soft "peck, peck, peck" of the dauber hitting the paper while they were making their dots. I have to fight them each time we have to put them away.

My students also LOVE the writing and story paper. Their handwriting has improved so much just by seeing the vibrant colors of the top, middle, and bottom line on the paper. They love making their "sky" letters and "ground" letters. Before they were all over the page, not paying much attention to the lines on the paper. Now that they have attractive, bright, beautiful paper to write on, they hardly put their pencils down.

The smiles on their faces everyday makes my year. They aren't sad because they don't have school supplies. We aren't scrounging around the room or building looking for crayons, glue, etc. It is in abundant supply because of your generous hearts.

Thank you for caring about my students and enriching their learning and their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Armstrong

  • Classroom Library

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

I just wanted to say how grateful I am for your generous donation to my classroom project, "Classroom Library." My students adore their new books. They are feeling motivated to read as many of our new titles as possible! In addition, they have been discussing their books. It is so encouraging to see my students actively engaged with text in this way.

My school is currently on a "Spending Freeze." Without your support, my students would still be reading from the very limited selection of books I had. Our new plethora of books is certain to keep them entertained. It brings me such joy to see a child engrossed in a book, and you have helped them to foster that love of good literature.”

  • Where Do I Sit?

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

Thank you so much for the wonderful rug for my first grade classroom. My students walked into the classroom Monday morning (the rug came Friday afternoon and I was so excited I pulled it down the long hallway myself and laid it out right away!) and said "Mrs. A what a beautiful rug. Is that for us? Can I sit on a blue square?" It was a great start to a Monday morning and my students were so motivated to get to morning meeting so they could sit on it.

Amy came in later than most of my students and she was so excited she laid on her tummy on the rug and gave it a hug. She said, "I love this carpet. Do we get to sit on it?" Thank you for providing my students an opportunity to feel loved and appreciated with something just for them! We can't thank you enough for helping fund a beautiful, durable rug that my students will enjoy this year and many years to come. They all have their own space to sit and they already know that if you cross your line into another student's space then you are taking up more than your fair share and you need to scoot back into your own space. It is great to help provide boundaries so students can focus on learning rather than someone in their space.”

  • Can't Sharpen my Pencil!

    Funded Dec 22, 2009

I would like to say, "Thank You!" My students were very excited to have the new pencil sharpeners. When the box came to our room, they could not believe that they had three new pencil sharpeners to sharpen their pencils. The first thing they wanted to do was sharpen their color pencils. We use them a lot in our interactive notebooks. Some students went back and added color to parts of their notebooks that they could not color in the past. Having the new sharpeners made it easy to organize and get ready for each day. I have a student whose job is to sharpen pencils in the afternoon before dismissal. In the past, that student had to go to another class and try to finish before the buses were called. Now, he can stay in class and finish his job without rushing.

My students wanted to tell each of the donors how much they "like" you for helping them. It has changed many different things that we do in the class. Students don't need to share supplies, because they can sharpen and use their own things. Students are writing more because they can make mistakes now that they are using pencils again and not pens. I want to stay that it continues to amaze me to see how people respond to others that they don't know. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Richardson
