  • Motivating Movement for Kids with Basketballs

    Funded Jan 11, 2010

I would like to thank all of you for your generosity and support of this project. I am aware that basketballs may seem like a minor needed educational tool in this economy of cuts to education, but I cannot emphasize enough the positive learning experience that your gift of basketballs will provide for my students.

My students build trust very slowly. Your gift to them will allow me to teach them the value of gratitude and the responsibilities that go with the acceptance of any gift. With all that occurs in a school day, my students will remember that someone gave them a basketball to use. I can use this to help them understand their responsibility in taking care of this equipment as well as help them develop an understanding that people do care and that there are people that you can trust and count on. These basketballs will motivate movement and physical activity within their school day and provide them an opportunity for success.

As we continue our positive behavior intervention support process at my school, your gift will provide a tangible reward for those students who demonstrate Respect, Responsibility, and Caring in their daily behaviors. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Toth

  • Resources for the Next Future Scientisits!

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

This is such a valuable resource, and I cannot thank you enough for your assistance. We are currently in the process of making this project a real in-depth idea, with the students really taking on the role of active scientists working in sciences such as physics, chemistry, genetics, and microbiology. With your assistance, you have helped students in a high need area get exposure to resources they might otherwise not be able to gain access to. Those of us here say THANK YOU for making this project a reality! The students are so excited about learning science!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. S.

  • Bookin' It!

    Funded Oct 7, 2009

Thank you all for your generous donations. My students are thrilled to have more and different books to read in our classroom library. They constantly ask to have more free reading time. Most of their Oral Reading Fluency scores have greatly improved since beginning to read these books. During the Winter Benchmark DIBELS testing 16 out of 26 students reached their benchmark and the rest are progressing quickly toward their new goals.

Because of Donors Choose and your donations my students are able to continue to practice daily to reach their goals. They are eager to see their progress displayed on our class scatter chart and on their individual goal targets. You have made it possible for these students to remain excited about books and learning to love reading!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Blank

  • Where Are The Books?

    Funded Nov 6, 2009

Thank you so much for the wonderful donations towards purchasing books for our class library! The students love the books and cannot wait to have some free time in order to read the books. My students are reading every night and their reading fluency and comprehension has increased, as indicated by school district assessments. Most importantly, the students are developing a wonderful love for reading and the wonderful places a good book can take you. Again, on behalf of my students and myself, thank you so much for your generous donations which made it possible for my students to have direct access to great books!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lindner

  • Help Students Roll with the Forces of Physics!

    Funded Oct 9, 2009

I want to thank you all so very much for contributing to the purchase of our amusement park physics kits! In a time when budget cutbacks are taking a huge bite out of everything, there is absolutely no way we could have gotten these materials without your help. I know that many view trips to an amusement park to study the physics of roller coasters as a "frivolous" expense so I'm very appreciative that you recognize the value that such a hands on experience can bring to enriching students' understanding of the concepts of acceleration, conservation of energy, forces... and so much more!

Towards the end of the semester, everybody starts getting burned out, so the arrival of these kits helped rejuvenate everybody and give the students that extra little kick to make sure they're focusing on understanding the concepts they'll need to apply at the amusement park. The kits have helped keep the excitement alive as they have started using the materials to practice taking their measurements. By the time we hit the park in April, they'll be experts with the equipment and will be so excited to get some great data!

Thank you again for helping bring physics to life for my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sackey

  • The World Will Come To Us

    Funded Nov 6, 2009

Thank you so much for supporting my students' learning and for fueling the excitement they have for doing hands-on projects. So far, they have already learned that people in the global community care about them. They have learned about what citizenship means and service to others. Just the experience of watching their project being funded has been a lesson that could have been taught with the same meaning, as the connection with Donors Choose program and all of you showing them what it means to come together and support one another. They will not soon forget what you have taught them in giving. In addition, they will be able to hands-on projects such as weaving and making baskets, as they learn about the ancient peoples of Arizona. The students will also have visual art experiences with mediums that they would not otherwise have been introduced to, such as print-making, clay sculpting, making nature prints, using a different style of paper using watercolor pencils, mask making and more- these experiences will stay with them forever, are connected to state standards that they need to reach in the fourth grade. Also, research shows that students who receive visual art instruction are more likely to perform at grade-level on standardized tests. Also, such hands-on lessons, allow me as a teacher, reach those students who are "hooked" into school because the have found a passion. Finally, they will be able to create scrapbooks to show their learning from throughout the year, using specialized materials.

On behalf of my students and myself, thank you for your willingness to support our quest toward excellence and new experiences. Experiences that will be developed to continue to help create their sense of citizenship, a global community, learn about cultures of the world, and make the world seem a place that they are both a part of as well as a world that is within their reach---knowing that their town and school is not the only place for them and the only place they can affect. All of this is immeasurable.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
