My students are I are grateful for the awesome and unique selection of games that you have provided for our Gamers Club. The games created by ThinkFun are simple to learn but they provide a variety of challenges that are both interesting and addicting. Without your thoughtful generosity, it would not be possible for me to build up a great collection of games for my students. Thanks to you, the days of mainly playing Connect Four, checkers, and Battleship are over!!!
In addition, I have utilized the collection of games as an incentive for students who complete their work early during the after-school homework support class. The incentive of being allowed to play a game during class has proved to be a positive motivation for my students to work diligently so that they can check-out a game when they are finished with their work.
Overall, I am excited to continue to share these games with future gamers. Thanks again for helping us to build up our Gamers Club. Game on!!!”
We've received the materials we ordered for our project, "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words." The students are enjoying the process of reading biographies of the lives of various people, whether Hispanic or of another culture. We have also been writing different essays such as narratives, summaries, and writings with persuasive content in order to practice the art of different styles of writing. The fourth graders are soon to write personal essays which will be autobiographic, as well as biographies about famous California citizens. They are receiving instruction about sentence structure and fluency, writing conventions, and voice.
So far we've used the digital camera and paper for printing our photos on a recent study trip to the coast. Some of my students are in the G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Education) Program and we are working on digital storytelling using the coastal photos for their still prints. Another study trip we had with the fourth grade was to a CA Mission where they toured the grounds and took pictures to be used in their autobiographies. Although they've each lived a short life, nine or ten years, their personal story should be quite interesting through the use of the digital camera and storage devices we've received. They are all looking forward to putting their stories together in book form and on DVD's.
Thank you so much from all of us for your part in making this project and our experiences interesting and motivating. I am always amazed about how the lives of historical figures can influence our students especially when they read about them firsthand in books at their reading level. The use of photos of the students with their families in their autobiographies will give them great memories of their project and a DVD worth sharing with everyone they know. We are grateful for your donations in helping us reach our project goal!
Thank you so much for the incredible gift you gave to my class. I can honestly say that having the LCD projector and the document camera have revolutionized the way I can present information. Now I can model how to solve problems on student pages, I can demonstrate how to write paragraphs for the class to see, and I can display photos and videos from the Internet to supplement our learning!
My students LOVE the two new devices in the room. They always ask, "When can we use the cameras today?" It makes me proud that I can incorporate some small pieces of technology into my second graders' instruction since they live in a world filled with technological advances in spite of budget cuts and their economic backgrounds.
Your gift was extremely generous and I promise it will be used with many class to come. I hope you know that the impact of this gift is immeasurable.
I want to thank you greatly for your donation to my classroom. Our trip to see the dance performance, People Like Me, held so much meaning for the students in my class. My class is a diverse group of students who enjoyed seeing dance and hearing music from many of their home countries. In addition, students recognized their language being sung. My students were so engaged during the performance because it had so much relevance to their lives.
As I follow the Social Studies curriculum for 1st grade, we study characteristics of cultures and how they are alike and different. Our trip to the dance performance is a great jumping off point to discuss culture. Students already have the background knowledge that culture includes music, dance and clothing.
This field trip to see cultural expression will support my students Social Studies learning throughout the year.
I can not thank you enough for giving my students this opportunity!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Olsen
