I am super excited to be participating in "Mustaches for Kids". For the next four weeks, I will strive to achieve the most awesomely ridiculous looking Mustache ever. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. Thanks in advance from the bottom of my lip lounger. • Help Us Beautify Our Courtyard With Art

    Funded Mar 19, 2010

I would like to start with a big THANK YOU! Your donation to this project provided my students to work in a medium that they had not experienced before this project. The stepping stones were absolutely beautiful.

Students started out creating a simple sketch. Students recreated the sketch by embedding glass pieces into cement. This was a project that all of the students were anxious to take home. I had to practically beg them to let me display them in the art show because they wanted to have the stepping stones back right of way!

The stepping stone kits are also the gift that will keep on giving. All of the molds are reusable which means that classes in the future will also have the ability to make this project and I'm sure they will be just as excited as this last group. Thank you again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Maas

  • Sound Affects - Part II

    Funded Feb 11, 2010

I would like to thank you for the tremendous contribution you have made to my current and future students. You enable us to engage in a daily routine where groups of students rotate to the listening center, then respond to the literature after listening / reading the book at the center. All of my students look forward to this routine, and inquire about it every morning to ensure they will get their listening center time. They have remained engaged in this routine through the year, and have gained exposure to a wide variety of literature.

I am extremely thankful for your kindness, and your support for inner-city public school classrooms like mine.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Arafin

  • A New Kindergarten Carpet: Missing a Special Place to "Park"

    Funded Mar 1, 2010

Ever since the arrival of the carpet, my children and I have felt more at home than we ever had before. I am so grateful that you have helped make our vision come true. Without you, my children would still be cramped and uncomfortable doing something that they love to do; read! This addition to my classroom will bring so much joy for years to come. It is bright and colorful; it makes such a beautiful difference then our bare floor.I cannot wait to open that first read aloud in September to the new kindergarten and have them enjoy their own "spot to park" for reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Papeika

  • Flip The Switch For Digital Storytelling!

    Funded Feb 22, 2010

Thank you all so very much for your support. As we speak I am currently at a statewide educational conference and expo, and many of the presenters are using the Flip cameras you all helped my class to secure. These will allow my students to truly create their own learning experiences and gain higher order thinking skills that are too often missing in classrooms today. The reality of society is that technology now surrounds us and I appreciate you helping me embrace the philosophy so wisely spoken by Benjamin Franklin, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Thanks again for your generosity and I only hope you see the benefits of projects like mine positively impact the future of tomorrow.”

  • 2nd graders seeing, hearing, and engaging with the content

    Funded Feb 26, 2010

Thank you so much for contribution to the LCD projector for my classroom. It has become an indispensable resource in my classroom- one which is hard to remember being without. It has become quite effortless to enhance my students comprehension of the content by showing them a video. The word "cassette," a vocabulary word is much easier to explain with a visual- something that I can now show them with just a few clicks on my laptop.

My students' favorite activity that we have used the projector for was watching the movie March of the Penguins. I showed it to them to accompany a story in their reading books about emperor penguins. Time limited us from watching the entire documentary but they haven't stopped talking about what they learned about the penguins. They laughed watching penguins slide on their bellies and sat perfectly quiet still in anticipation of the first chicks hatching. They were fascinated.

Teaching an inclusion class can be challenging. The students with learning disabilities are easily grouped by people outside of the classroom as "not capable" of understanding the content. Having this resource has had a great impact on the level of engagement in the classroom, especially with the special education students. Showing them the content is as simple as powering up the projector. It has made the content so much more accessible for all of my students.

In a time where there seems to be so much economic uncertainty, I am so grateful for people like you who are there to answer a call for assistance for some very deserving young people.”

  • Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

    Funded Feb 11, 2010

Thank you so much for donating to our project. We use the projector we received several times a week. It allows the students to view art and architecture from various parts of the world. To date we have studied China, Mexico, Japan and Germany.

The students particularly love the ability to see the art in large scale color. We are able to zoom in and look at specific sections of a pieces as well as compare two pieces. The students really enjoy looking at art and pulling out different things. It allows them to compare different cultures and really see how we all share ideas.

We can't thank you enough for donating to our projector because of you learn is fun and hands on. Please keep donating to other causes!”

    With gratitude,

  • We Love to Read!

    Funded Feb 7, 2010

My students start school with less opportunities and resources than the average American student. Your support to supply my students with resources that help them learn helps me stay motivated in giving them my best as their teacher. I cannot express my gratitude for your help in giving my students more supplies to keep them excited about reading and learning.

My students were very excited about the books on CD. They have enjoyed picking out which story they want to read and reading along with the CD as they listen to it. They absolutely love the mystery readers that you supplied. They like the books because they are easier to read and they can use a magnifying class to solve the mystery at the end of each book.

Your donation helped make some special students be more successful in both reading and life!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hostetter
