  • Learning the Truth About Slavery From Harriet Beecher Stowe

    Funded Jul 9, 2008

Wow! Thank you so much for funding "Learning the Truth About Slavery From Harriet Beecher Stowe" so close to the proposal's deadline! I am extremely excited and grateful for your generosity. This makes me even more excited to begin teaching this upcoming school year by now being able to share with my students such an inspiring story as Uncle Tom's Cabin. Not only is reading this story going to help them mature as readers, but it will also help them understand the human condition more fully. These books and cds will also be used by my future students for years to come. I am even thinking about having them create and perform a stage play for parents and other classrooms as a peripheral culminating project. I look forward to sending you pictures and thank you notes from the students.

    Thank you so much!

    Sincerely,

    Gerard K

  • Framing Dreams into Words with African-American Poetry

    Funded Apr 1, 2008

Thank you so much for your generous donation of I Am the Darker Brother. I will use the anthology as a focal point for teaching poetry. I know that the students will appreciate holding these books, instead of photocopied poems, in their hands and perusing the books for the poems that speak to them. Of course, they will learn to analyze and interpret the poems. But I hope that they will also fall in love with a poem or two and continue reading for pleasure. In addition, the books will enable me to teach the students about the connection between poetry, the blues, and jazz. Again, I'm so grateful for your contribution to my classroom. I can't wait to put the books to use”

I am so excited to have the opportunity to share this remarkably inspirational biography with my students! Real life stories of triumph and perseverance have always been a significant positive influence in my life, and I am confident that this book will have a similar impact on the lives of my students.

Thank you for realizing the value of relevant content and relatable role models. Your generosity will help make the world a better place by making a difference in the lives of children.

  • Native American Indians

    Funded Mar 31, 2008

Thank you for donating to our school. With these supplies we will be able to accomplish a lot. Our community needs more donations to carry out the success of our students. Students have a lot of creative skills but we as teacher we lack supplies to allow them to demonstrate that creatively. Thank you again”

  • Unity Through Percussion

    Funded Mar 24, 2008

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Your donation is appreciated beyond what words could say. I informed my students in the Third Grade of your generosity and they jumped up and down with excitement. Drums, as you know, are fun to play, but they are an excellent educational tool. With your help, multicultural music will be celebrated in the Music Room in Cranston, Rhode Island.

    Thanks again,

  • History in the Making: How Documents Shape Understanding

    Funded Mar 2, 2008

I want to express my sincerest gratitude for funding this proposal. These resources will prove to be a tremendous asset to our classroom both this year and in years to come. I will now be able to engage my students in the work of real historians - examining documents and drawing conclusions based on their knowledge of the time. I know that this will be a highly motivating experience for them, and it wouldn't be possible without your financial support. Thank you so much for enabling this opportunity”

On behalf of my 91 8th Civics students I would like to thank you for your contribution to the "Helping Middle Schoolers Beat the Street" proposal. Your generosity will help my students understand the value of education and choosing the right friends. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the "We Beat the Street" books, so I can begin sharing this inspiring story with my students.

I am thrilled, excited, and deeply grateful to all of you who donated money for our school to purchase books for my students to read. We just started our study of Africa and now we will have the book, Facing the Lion, to compliment our unit. Thank you so much for recognizing the value of reading and for making this possible for my students. As my students would say, "You Rock!!" Take care.

Thank you for the donation that lets me bring cultural enrichment to my music students. The donation of these art materials will let us get messy, have fun and learn about African Culture. The kids will be thrilled to make African masks to go with the African songs they have started to learn. Once again thank you for your donation.

  • African-American Teen Books for Library

    Funded Jan 15, 2008

Thank you so much! This is an amazing gift. I am telling my students and my principal about this already and they are all so amazed by your generosity. It's very fitting that I found out that this proposal had been fully funded, and that we would be getting books to supplement our African-American collection, on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. I will be cataloging these books as soon as they arrive and making them available for my students so that they can start borrowing and reading them.

I can't tell you how much this means to us -- my students are always asking when we will get new books, and now I can tell them "very soon"! My students and the entire school community thanks you and appreciates this gift.
