  • Paper Ladybugs

    Funded Apr 27, 2009

Dear donors, my students loved seeing the new material. They were excited to see where the ladybugs would live. They also wanted to read the stories and create what they read.

When the ladybugs came the students begged to sit next to their home and watch them. They really move around and our cute pets. The students learned how great ladybugs are to gardens. So, they understood they needed to be free.

Thank you so much for donating. You made a difference to those children to learn about nature in a fun way. Something they would not have without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Goldman

  • Scare Kids to Read: Disgusting, Fearful Literacy Motivators

    Funded Apr 20, 2009

I would like to begin by thanking you for your generous support of my teaching and my classroom. Some of you are dedicated supporters that have given to my classroom in the past, and I wanted to let you know that the impact that you have made on my students is continuing.

The books and materials that your donations allowed my class to receive has made independent- and group-reading time a joy for my students. All of my kids are able to choose high interest books at their reading level, and this growing engagement with reading is in part responsible for the high levels of growth we're seeing in the reading ability of my students.

    Our Best,”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kiesel

  • Marvelous Meteorologists

    Funded Apr 10, 2009

Thank you so much for the funds to purchase a weather kit. I am able to allow my 4th grade students the opportunity to make weather instruments such as anemometers, barometers, wind vanes, and the use of thermometers. The students also have had the opportunity to "see" air pressure and how it effects the weather. 4 graders have made clouds and "rain" in the classroom because of your generous donation. Thank you for your support. I will be able to use this kit for many years to come. ”

  • You Can't Stop the Beat!

    Funded Jun 2, 2009

My students and I, cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to help us purchase our hand drums. Working with disabled children has its difficulties, but for us, music is a universal language that all my students can take part in. With your help, my students will be able to understand that they can make their own music, find a beat and the rhythm.

We have been using these drums with our cheerleading team to help them find the beat to their cheers. It has worked amazingly and I thank you so much for giving us the chance to boost our spirits by focusing on what we can do, and not what we cannot. My non-ambulatory students find it hard to participate in many of our lessons because they cannot move their arms or hands enough to color and/or write. With these drums, while one student holds the drum, the other can hit it. They are perfect because even if you hit them just a little bit, they still make a sound.

In the future, we will be using these drums to make a hand drum band. We will make our own songs, as well as incorporate all the students beats to make one. We are so excited at all that is in store for us.

    Thank You So Much!”

    With gratitude,

  • A Culture EXPO

    Funded May 14, 2009

My students' cultural experience exceeded my expectations. Not only did they learn about the cultural differences and similarities they became young entrepreneurs, little chefs and fashion runway models. They were introduced to foods from around the world through literature and the Kid's Multicultural Cookbook truly enhanced their experiences by appealing to their senses. The international breads added a 'little spice" to mealtime in the dramatic play area. Our Fashion Runway culminating event was an awesome display of young beauty, character and pride. Thank you so very much for a remarkable impact in the lives of my young students. What a memorable experience they had!”

  • Art Supplies Needed For Our Pre-K Kids!

    Funded Apr 17, 2009

We are so happy that you donated art supplies to our classroom. Having new art materials has allowed our class to make beautiful art work and learn academics through art, which makes academics so much fun! Our class is having a great time making collages, paintings, sculptures, and publishing books all because of your generosity! The materials you donated have been a great motivator for the children to explore the art center throughout the day. We greatly appreciate your donation. Thank you so much! ”

  • "Write" Answers

    Funded Aug 20, 2009

Thank you so much for your donation of white boards to my math classroom. Upon receiving them, students were excited to open them and get to work! The motivation and excitement are priceless!

With the classroom set of white boards, students were able to work problems and provide answers to share with their fellow classmates and also convey their understanding to me. Students are thrilled to use them and more engaged than when simply filling out a worksheet!

Thanks to your contributions, my students are more than will do work math problems that they would normally complain about doing. I am forever grateful to you! My current students and future students will continue to learn and explore math with the help of the white boards!”

  • Learning to Love Books!

    Funded Apr 16, 2009

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. Your donation has allowed us to receive new library furniture and new books. These materials are so important to the overall function of a classroom and have allowed my students to grow in so many ways.

By having an inviting and updated library area, my students constantly ask me if they can go and read books. Everyday, they choose to spend their free time in the library reading books. It is so amazing to hear students explicitly ask and beg if they can go read books.

Because of your generous donation, my students are loving reading. They can explore different topics and learn by reading. They are able to choose what they are interested in and expand their knowledge. Thank you so much for recognizing the profound impact this project has on young learners.”

  • TIME to Bring the World to South Phoenix

    Funded Apr 10, 2009

Thank you so much for helping bring enriching reading material into my classroom! Working in an area where too many students perform below grade level and there is insufficient technology that allows a sufficient connection to what is going on outside of our classroom or our city even, these magazines truly allow my students to see the world and meet many diverse groups of people.

The magazines are also great instructional tools that engage my students to want to work on important reading skills. I can honestly say that every child participates willingly when we work with Time for Kids, Science World, or Dynamath.

The usefulness of the magazines doesn't stop with reading. Using some of the information we've gained from the articles we are sure to reuse or recycle them every time. The colorful pictures are great resources for book responses. We have cut out headlines and pictures to create book collages and mobiles. We definitely make use of every part of the magazine.

I just can't say enough about the positive effects and important life skills your donations have brought to my classroom. You are touching the lives of many young people and we are so grateful!”

    Ms. Schaeffer

  • Ghosts and Gross Entice Reluctant Readers!

    Funded Apr 16, 2009

As a public school librarian it is both a challenge and a reward to get kids to read. Library budgets are among the first thing to shrink when the budget gets trimmed. Your donation came to a much needed area and one that effects a lot of kids.

Our school promotes literacy in a variety of exciting ways. Your generosity added to that excitement. Without the extra support it would have been a long time before we would have been able to acquire the Rotten School series. The kids love them! They are literally flying off the shelf. R.L. Stine is a powerful author. He draws in many types of readers.

Thanks once again for supporting children, literacy and education.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones
