It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. Thank you all so much for your help and support. I can't even begin to tell you the changes I have seen in my classroom in such a short time. My children are now arguing over which literacy center they want to go in, when before I had to push them to choose any of them. Not only are they arguing over the centers, they even ask to use them during their free time in the afternoons.
The leveled readers we received are working wonders for my students who were improving yet where at a stand still because I didn't have enough of the proper books to take them further. Some of my students are now reading on a second grade level in kindergarten!
All the other materials we have gotten such as our classroom news, and sight word charts and cards have become a part of our daily routine in which the children and myself enjoy greatly!
I was ecstatic the day I received the shipment of iPods and I even unwrapped them in front of my students. At first my ESOL students had no idea what they were, but now they're so excited when I take them out. Since I received them, all of my students have had several chances to use these new iPods. They love the fact that they have an opportunity to listen to a story of their choice. They especially enjoy getting to read along with it at their own pace.
The iPods make a great listening center. But I also found another advantage of having these devices. In addition to listening to stories on them, my students can also watch the Sesame Street Word on the Street Podcasts. Each Podcast introduces a new word. The actors in these Podcasts explain and act out the word to show its meaning. This will surely help increase my students' vocabulary.
Please accept my sincere appreciation for helping to fund this project. Now all my first graders are on the road to becoming fluent readers with an increased vocabulary knowledge, thanks to your generous donations. You have made a positive impact in their educational experience.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous donation to this project. Some of the equipment is still on back-order, so my students are anxiously awaiting it's arrival. This WII gaming system will give my students a chance to be creative and have some fun in music class. The WII music game will reinforce many of the music concepts we learn in class. Many of my students have never played the WII before and are so appreciative of the opportunity to learn how it works. They really couldn't believe that people would donate so much money for them to have something to use in school. It was a great conversation about how people help each other out. So, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share that lesson with them. Thank you again for being so generous!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Engelhard
