A Great Place to READ

I cannot begin to explain the impact this project is having on my classes. My students are excited when they have the opportunity to go to the reading center that has been created by adding a large rug, bean bag chairs and a bunch of books. Having this space allows them to get out of their seats and away from their desks and get comfortable. Then they are able to dive into a book. They often beg for time in the reading center.

My students view this time as "so much more fun" than sitting at a desk all day. They do not even know that they are doing the same work required of them, just in a change of location. With the increased number of books that this project has provided, my students have choices when it is time to read. They are able to browse the shelves and choose something that interests them and is at their level.

Not only do I see an increased INTREST in reading, I see an increase in reading SCORES. My aim was to have students want to read and through all your generosity, it has happened. This will have a life long impact on these students and future students. My students now look at reading differently, it is no longer a painful task at school, it is an enjoyable adventure. ”
