  • Reading Leaders

    Funded Mar 31, 2011

Gracias and many thanks for your kindness! My students often look for innovative ways to gain knowledge in the classroom, and I was pleased to receive your donations which allowed me to help my students explore technology in the classroom. My students have used the products to complete class projects and to also navigate digital platforms that offers learning beyond the classroom. Your donations helped bridge the gap for my students, who ordinarily wouldn't be able to gain access to various technological programs due to funding. Once again thanks for your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. J.

  • A Safe Place for our Belongings

    Funded May 23, 2011

The shelves have been an integral part of our classroom. It has really helped to maintain order and cleanliness in our classroom. My students rely on the fact that everything has a place because they know that our classroom is our home away from home so we have to keep it clean.

I have been so thankful that these shelves were given to our classroom. I do not think that my class would have been as excited about them if they had not seen them delivered directly to our room. They will continue to see the benefits of having an organized classroom as they fight over who gets to put our stuff away throughout each day!

Thank you all so much for helping to make a huge impact in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Haven

  • Literacy Everywhere

    Funded Mar 31, 2011

I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for your generous donations to our classroom. The books and learning materials have helped my students every day. We have used the materials to write our own books and share them with other classrooms throughout the school. We have learned new vocabulary words that we use daily. We have been able to build our fluency to make us better readers. We have also built our comprehension. These materials are utilized each and every day by every student in my classroom.”

  • No One Wants to Play an Ukulele With Only 2 Strings!

    Funded Apr 5, 2011

I am so thankful for the wonderful gift you gave my classroom. Your donation has changed my students' whole perspective on music class. For a year and a half, my students have been playing on the same set of strings. Usually, an ukulele player will change their strings once a month, so these strings were long overdue. Many of our ukuleles only had two or three strings out of the normal four.

Now that we have new strings, students are able to play instruments that SOUND GOOD! It is amazing the difference in their energy level when they feel that they can create a sound to be proud of. In addition, 20 of my students chose to help me put the strings on the instruments. The skills that they developed that day after school will help them to change their own guitar strings as they grow older.

Thank you so much for helping my class to find their love for music again. My students couldn't be happier!”

  • Organizing Our Outstanding Room!

    Funded Apr 6, 2011

Thank you so much for supporting my wonderful students. Over the last year I have received so many wonderful literary and art resources, but organizing them has been a struggle. Dollar store baskets and bins have fallen apart, but I am so excited that we have replaced them with new, sturdy bins and desk caddies. They add a colorful touch to our room and my students love that they can easily find their leveled readers in easily labeled baskets. Crayons, glue, scissors, fluent reading books and pencils are easily organized in our new desk caddies and they make working in different areas of our room a breeze. My students are incredibly appreciative and I know that their newfound organizational skills will make them better students down the road.”

  • Keeping Art Alive in New York City

    Funded Mar 31, 2011

I would like to thank all of the extremely generous donors who have pledged their support in order to fund this project. It really does mean a lot to the students when they know that they are receiving a gift from people they don't even know.

Since their arrival, my students and I have been enjoying the wonderful books that we have ordered. We now have books on photography, painting, drawing and art history. The beautiful illustrations in the books provide a great next-best-thing as we cannot see much of the artwork from around the world and throughout history.

Thank you again for your support and kindness.”

  • Readers Need Novels in Their Hands

    Funded Mar 8, 2011

Thank you so much for donating to my project so my students would be able to read the classic novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. As I had mentioned, my school is not able to purchase books for the students to use, so instead, I had to copies pages whenever we were reading. My students immediately noticed the difference that reading from a book can have. They were more engaged and motivated to continue reading. Your generosity has allowed my students to truly feel and embrace the magic of learning and reading, a trait that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.”

    With gratitude,

  • After School Art Club Celebrating Culture

    Funded Mar 31, 2011

With your generous donations, my students were able to develop and share ideas about culture with our school community. This project began in the art room but developed into a school program about the purpose art serves in understanding various cultures. Eighteen students met after school twice a week for 8 weeks. During this time, we made journals, explored mask making, created a pictorial language that resembles hieroglyphs, visited a local museum, and created paintings that served as a backdrop for a school musical. Each of these students explored the factors that influence their own personal culture, and compared it to the ancient cultures of Central and South Mexico, Africa, and India. They developed a better understanding of how the art created by ancient civilizations serves as a tool in understanding more about the lives these people led.

We visited a local museum and viewed the artworks of Willie Cole. The students were amazed by the artist's ability to transform everyday objects into relics infused with symbolism about various cultures throughout history. They were able to take their own ideas about this artwork and create mandalas from found objects. This lesson also focused on the importance of environmental responsibility as they were encouraged to recycle items that otherwise would have otherwise gone to the trash can.

I was extremely proud of the work these students put into creating paintings and props for our school play. This performance brought our entire school, as well as the parents in the community, together to celebrate our diversities. The school was very impressed with the talent our students have to showcase. This talent would have sadly gone untapped if it hadn't been for your support in our children's education. ”

  • Supplies for Band Students

    Funded Apr 9, 2011

Thank you so much for your donation to our band. I truly appreciate your generosity and support!

Thanks to you, my percussion students now have the supplies they need to fully participate in our band program. As you know, participation in the arts has a profound and positive impact on a child's life, and I am so pleased that you have decided to support our organization. My students were so impressed and honored that people in the community and across the country cared enough about education and the arts to make this possible for them.

The supplies are perfect, and have already made a big difference in my classes. We use them every day, and the students are truly grateful to have new percussion mallets and equipment. Thank you for improving the educational experiences of my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McKeown

  • Road Trip: USA!

    Funded Apr 2, 2011

I wanted to express my gratitude for the many books that you purchased for my students. These books have helped my students to learn more about the different parts of the United States. The students have been very excited to learn more about the different areas of the country and what life has been like for the people living in these areas in the past. They have been eager to read more about the different states as a result, both with the books that we have read together and in their independent reading.

Due to tight and shrinking budgets at school, the purchase of these books would otherwise not be possible without your donations. Learning about our country is very important for students to do. These books helped to bring parts of the United States alive for the students in a way that a textbook just does not accomplish.

Thank you for helping my students to become excited about reading and learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cooney
