Let's help public school kids live healthful lives. How? By getting teachers the resources they need to launch school gardens, to promote nutrition and fitness, and even to teach math through cooking.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your generous donations to my students! We use materials that you helped purchase evey single day. Once a week we do a close reading of the newest Time Magazine for Kids edition and discuss the current events. Students loved the "end of 2013" issue that featured major news events of the past year. They also love the special editions that highlight a region of the world. I have one student from Jordan who was thrilled to see a whole magazine devoted to her home country!
Students love being able to play the games like Charades and Guess Who to practice their English while being able to get up and move around. After our work is done they know they can get a game out or read one of our new books. You can see my classroom's Reading Corner in some of my photos; students love listening to our new audiobooks and reading along. Everyone has their own bookmark so they can keep track of where they left off, even though we share the books.
I have written whole units of study around each of our new audiobooks. My 8th grade girls loved keeping a Reader's Journal while listeninig (and reading along) to The House On Mango Street. My 9-11th grade boys liked reading Monster because the literary style was totally new to them!
Without your generous contributions to this project, my students would not be able to read about current events and be exposed to the different literature that we are now able to discuss. Helping my ESOL students improve their English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills is really a gift that will keep on giving. Again, THANK YOU!
Thank you all for supporting the arts in elementary school! My students absolutely LOVED this project. They learned how to take care of the paint and paint brushes, mix primary colors to create secondary colors, and all about butterfly symmetry. The students were able to use a "half butterfly" tracer and flip it in order to make the butterfly symmetrical. I think they were surprised that Math could be part of art. The students also want to say thank you for all your help so that they could have the chance to paint in art class!
My students are using the paints and brushes to create the butterfly pictures, but they will also be able to use them for other projects. I think that it is important for kids of all ages to be able to have a little fun and be creative. The paints and brushes will enable them to do more art projects like this in the future!!
Thanks to the donations, my students were able to really understand what art is all about. I integrated Math with Art in order to show the students that they learn even in the art room! They were able to realize that Math can be just as much fun as art, especially when painting is involved!
Again thank you so much for your help with this project and your support in the arts. It is truly appreciated!!”
Words can not express how excited I was to hear my project got funded for fidget toys thanks to your help! I have several children with Autism in my 2nd grade Special Education classroom this year and they are thriving with the help of your donation! I have also shared with other special needs students in the building. We take fidget toys on class field trips to help with bus rides, they use them in class to help focus on instruction or to take a mental breaks, and during many time throughout the day. I truly appreciate your help funding this project. A special thanks to the donors who had a connection to my classroom, town, or state! I have the best family and friends EVER!”
My students and I are all tremendously grateful for your donations! With your support, we were able to travel to Costa Rica to learn not only the Spanish language but a whole new culture! My students were able to get their hands on some of the most interesting animals and see different species that does not exist in the United States! I am confident that this trip has changed their life. My students have become more interested in the Costa Rican culture as well as traveling around the world.
It is a blessing to have friends and family that care about the education of my students and really support the work that I am doing at my school. It was great see how my students learned every day about something completely new and it's because of you! Looking ahead at my lessons for the coming months, I will be able to use all of the information I learned while on the trip in an appropriate way to fuel student learning and achievement. One more time, thanks so much! I look forward to taking more students on more educational trips in the coming years!”
The students were SO EXCITED to hear that our project was funded! We're not starting the books you provided for another few months, but they are already begging me to let them start reading the books. It means so much to them to know that someone who doesn't even know them would help to provide them with quality reading materials. Your gift shows them that reading IS important and valuable, and that reading can be FUN and EXCITING!
This gift has made me able to introduce them to new literature and has sparked interesting class discussions. I know that the students will be forever grateful for your generosity!!”
Thanks to you, I was able to start the year off with a bang by having ample supplies. My classes had a great time visiting South Africa. We created coil pottery, African drums, learned some of the language, such as "Dunkey-(Thank-you), and drew/painted elephants, giraffes, vervet monkeys, lions and tigers. I had plenty of supplies to support my lessons and children felt privileged to have such nice resources.
My students can locate South Africa on the map and write a short paragraph about their favorite moment there. They calculated mileage from our school and even Google earthed the country. It was a wonderful, learning experience for all grade levels and your support made it possible.
From all of us, "Dunkey"!”
With gratitude,

Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. The jazz band is greatly improved by the addition of these keyboards to the classroom. My pianist now has a keyboard that does not have a key that get stuck down. There is also a working pedal on the keyboard which helps out the class a lot musically.
We are using the resources in the jazz band class every time we meet. The choir program will be using the keyboard when they have outside performances. This will benefit the music department at the school as a whole.
Now that we have these keyboards we can play a wider variety of music in the correct style. We were having a hard time playing ballads and other pieces of music with longer phrases because the keyboard we had in the past did not sustain. This will improve the student's performances in class and at the performances.
Thank you all for your support of my classroom. The students and I are eternally grateful.”
My students and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity with your donations. My students are loving the books that we received thanks to your help. They are reading more and checking out books from the classroom library that they normally would not check out! I have told many co-workers about donorschoose.org, and they are putting their own projects together! Again, thank you so much for your kindness and for making sure that at least 150 students become lifelong readers!
My students were absolutely thrilled to receive the IPAD, especially when I told them it was for them to learn about nutrition. We have utilized several apps on the IPAD and with each "round" of usage, the students are becoming more aware of the food they are putting in their bodies. I have even noticed they are making healthier choices at lunch. Right now, my students have become passionate and joined a school-wide petition to have apples sliced so those with braces or sensitive teeth will be able to eat them as part of their lunch. In another app students have to decide between which two plates and choose the healthiest. They are learning what to look for in a healthy plate.
Students are also looking at how much activity they have daily. Some students that usually choose to read or draw during recess are choosing to walk/play at recess for at least half the time. Many are bringing water to school because it is better than other sugary beverages. There is one app they are using which shows them how much exercise/activity they must do to burn off the calories of making an unhealthy choice.
Overall, having the IPAD in the classroom has become a wonderful instrument to improve students' ideas about the foods they are choosing. They understand the importance of having good food along with a treat once in awhile.
I am so pleased you chose our class to donate to and I appreciate you helping my students to make healthier choices. I look forward to utilizing many more apps to educate children in my classroom.”

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. We now do not have to worry about where to put our artwork so it can dry. It is no longer "over there, out of the way" or "over here, out of the way." We are able to display all the best work (and everything they do is the best!) on the 2 clip lines. It is very nice to see the papers moving softly against the air conditioning vent. It reminds us that we now have a special place for all the good work that we do.
I hope that one day public school everywhere will not have to rely on the gifts of donors like you. Until that time, I thank you very much for your dedication to the children!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sir Hendrey
