Adventures in Ethics and Science readers join together to help public school students and teachers get the resources they need. Thanks in advance for your generosity!
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for donating to my project. Through your efforts on DonorsChoose.org I am able to bring this project to my students without worry of obtaining the supplies I need.
This project is one we begin after state testing, starting with a lesson on roller coaster physics. My goal this year is to make this a little more student driven rather than teacher driven. Students will be introduced to the concept of roller coaster design and then sent on a guided exploration of roller coaster design. They will be utilizing our computer lab and library to gather information. At the end of this exploration they will understand potential and kinetic energy and the role they play in roller coaster construction. Students will be able to identify the forces acting on a roller coaster car as it travels through dips, turns, rises and loops.
My students look forward to this project which would not be possible without your help. Thank you agian for your generosity.”
I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you so much for your donation to my classroom project with donorschoose.org. Each and every one of you are one of many donors making a difference in today's classrooms in order to make education more relevant for students. The various Genetics based labs you helped to donate to my classroom have been a great asset since they all were delivered. My students have been able to use their knowledge of concepts covered in my class throughout the school year in order to perform the laboratory procedures. The "Practicing Pipetting Kits" allowed my students to practice loading gels for an electrophoresis test without using the actual lab DNA samples, thus preventing loss of the DNA. We had a bunch of fun extracting DNA from different fruits and vegetables through the "DNA Extraction of Fruits and Vegetables" kits as well as figuring out "Whose DNA was Left Behind" from the lab kit that allowed us to test and complete a DNA analysis. My students' favorite was the "E. coli Transformation Lab" by Evotek because they performed multiple genetic transformation steps in order to take ordinary E. coli cells that did not glow and adding a gene where the cells appeared fluorescent green under a black light. I love being able to watch my students enhance their learning through all the various Genetic labs donated to my classroom here at Brimm Medical Arts High School!
With the budgets for schools in my state being cut dramatically this year, you have stepped in and made supplies that would never be purchased possible for the classroom! Your donation helped to bring Human Genetics to life from meaningful lab experiments.
Thank you for taking the time to help a teacher who is trying to impact the lives of today's students in many ways, everyday!”
Our students are profoundly grateful for your support and honored to have the chance to study plants and grow indoor gardens. As you know, our students live in high-poverty neighborhoods and for most, this is their only access to hands-on science experiments and gardening projects. Their enthusiasm for our classroom garden has reminded me how important inspiration and excitement is in the learning process. It means everything!
The supplies that you funded went towards creating 6 different ecological terrarium habitats - from desert to tropical (and all level in between). The students designed, assembled, and now are maintaining the terrariums with passion and enthusiasm. They are also currently growing seedlings for our outdoor flower and vegetable to be planted outside our cafeteria this spring and we plan to incorporate their home-grown cool season crops into their lunch menu. Lastly, they grew their own strawberries in class and examined DNA strands that they extracted from the cells.
A large part of their excitement is because they took ownership of their creations - from start to finish; they are invested in the data they collect and energized to compare results and analyze outcomes because they hold "stake" in the process. They're not just growing plants, they're growing critical thinking skills and scientifically rigorous analytical skills, as well as pride in their work.
It is great to see you that you share my vision for reaching children by helping them to achieve great things. My children may live in a low-income area, but they have potential that greatly exceeds their limited resources. Together, we dream big!
All I can say is thank you!! Thank you for your generosity and THANK YOU for how these books are truly transforming my students into much more inquisitive learners! That was the objective of this project, but the way it is affecting our classroom is even greater than I had anticipated! These books were requested because they were necessary resources for my students as they research information about space. My students have loved reading and hearing about the solar system! A couple expressed interest in becoming an astronaut one day! The discussions about what they have read and learned about this topic is simply amazing! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You truly have and will continue to make a difference for these students and to my future learners!”
Thank you so much for your generous donations! With your donations I have been able to make science more interesting for my class. I have brought caterpillars into the classroom so that students can see the whole process of the butterfly lifecycle happen right before their eyes. My students look forward to science every week!
With your donation my students have also enjoyed learning about the plant cycle as well. They have read the plant books as well as used the vocabulary cards to take notes on the progress of the plants they have been growing themselves in class.
My students and I truly appreciate your generosity!”
Wow! Your generosity and care from student learning and education has brought so much joy and love for math into my classroom. The math manipulatives that your donations provided have given my students a chance to fall in love with a math by using hands on manipulatives.
Prior to receiving your donation, when my students were trying to determine and distinguish shapes, fractions and grouping numbers they had to think abstractly. This was extremely difficult for students who are learning the English language while learning math.
The smiles on my students' faces and the ohh's and ahh's, as I showed them the manipulatives were priceless. To students who do not have many material things, receiving new manipulatives, created a response of ownership, responsibility and respect for the new material. This ownership has helped my students grow in their math levels because they push themselves and have hands on experiences with the manipulatives.
Thank you so much! Your contribution has made and will continue to make a huge impact in my students' lives and the lives of my future students!”

I am so thrilled that through your generous donations, I am able to continue this blood typing lab with my students. Not only have you funded an engaging activity, you have provided my students with essential information that could potentially one day save their lives.
After some initial nervous about the actual "pricking" of the finger to get blood, students were in awe as they watched their red blood either clump or not clump based on their blood type.
Words cannot explain the gratitude I am feeling towards you. Your commitment to education is truly inspiring. Even though my students may not know you personally, they know the generosity of your spirit. Thank you so much.”
I cannot fully express my gratitude in this letter. The iPods you have donated to my classroom have added a new twist to our every day learning. We use the IPods to listen to reading, record students' reading and play it back, math fact games, science simulation applications, and educational videos among other things. My students enjoy very much learning with such tools and always look forward to work in educational activities that incorporate the iPods.
The community where I teach is a low income based community. Without the generous help of donors like you my students would not be able to use technology as an educational tool. My students were very excited when they learned that the iPods were going to be used as part of our learning tools. Using engaging tools in education, results in higher motivation which leads to higher academic success. I am very happy to have acquired such learning tools for this class and years to come.
Donors like you, enrich students'Â education one contribution at a time. Thank you for investing in our future generations.”
I am writing this letter with deep appreciation for your willingness to support our classroom. Since receiving our new calculators, we have put them to use nearly every day.
As anticipated, our new calculators allow students to self-monitor their work, which in turn allows me more freedom to reach students who most need additional support. Especially during independent work, students are able to double-check, analyze, and troubleshoot their work by themselves and with their peers. These tools have also given our students a stronger sense of ownership over their own learning, as they have increased their level of independence. Students do not have to wait for feedback from myself, but can give each other feedback in order to strengthen their own critical thinking skills as they learn the material.
As an added use since arriving, these tools have increasingly become a part of intervention strategies for engaging struggling students. They have allowed for modifications for special needs students who need added support with basic calculations, and also engage at-risk students who may otherwise be bogged down by basic skills they have not mastered.
We are extremely grateful to know that we have the support of the larger community, and send our sincerest thanks.”

Thank you so much to your donation! Your donation has helped purchase calculators that are necessary for my students to conduct basic calculations in their Chemistry class and lab.
Prior to your donation, I only had a limited amount of calculators, definitely not enough to meet the needs of all my students. But with your donation, I am now able to receive enough calculators to individually help each and everyone of my students, during labs, quizzes, tests and in-class activities.
Thank you so much for your donation, and for supporting education!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Pavletich
