  • Mastering Math Facts!

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. Your contribution is essential to the success of my students and has helped my students see that learning can be fun!

Your support has contributed to my students' academic growth and is making a difference in the lives of 39 young people. The students and I both, are tirelessly working to overcome the daunting odds that we face and ensure that all students in my classroom achieve an excellent education. The multiplication practice materials that your funding made possible are allowing my students to learn the fundamental skills essential to their success. Students truly enjoy practicing their multiplication facts using the beat the clock books and talking flash cards. The materials that you provided allow me to work individually with groups of students on targeted skills and provide students with extra practice to work on during breaks and after school. Your contributions have enabled students to make academic gains and improve their fluency with multiplication facts.

With the assistance of people like you, one day we will achieve the vision, that all students will attain an excellent education. As Margeret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Collaboration and perseverance will continue enabling these students to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and develop into talented young leaders. ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Talk, Talk, Is That All?

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

Your donations to "Talk, Talk, Talk Is That All" has enable students to give a never-ending voice to their thoughts. My students have used their writing tools to create books of poetry, resumes, rap songs, "I have a dream" essays, and so much more.

The dictionaries have assisted in expanding the vocabulary of students and enhancing word choice when writing. The folders were essential in the writing assignments because they offered students a method of organizing brainstorms, edited copies, and final publications.

Students are excited and proud when they produce their completed works. We are hosting a "Poerty Slam" next week. Each student will take to the stage to share poetry with parents and classmates. The impact of this project is far reaching and touches the lives of students and the community in which we live.”

  • Science Classroom Museum

    Funded Dec 24, 2009

Thank you all for your generous donations to my classroom as a museum project. Students in all three of the middle grades classes I teach benefited greatly from the use of the materials you got for us. The 8th grade project to build a giant model of an animal cell, which students could climb into, was especially successfully. The opportunity to construct something grand and special engaged the students. The requirement that they give high school students a guided tour of the cell and explain all its components motivated them to really learn the content.”

  • Discrete Trial Supplies for Children with Autism

    Funded Dec 16, 2009

Our class would like to thank you all very much for contributing to our class project. The Discrete Trial supplies have allowed us to Learn some basic skills including sorting by color, shape an size; identification of common items in our environments; increase our spoken vocabulary; and very unexpectedly phonemic awareness of words that we say.

Through the use of these materials, the students have increased their abilities to communicate what they want an decrease the frustration levels greatly. The kids have even gotten the opportunities to generalize the pictures from the picture card to actual items within their environments. We recently were outside on the playground and one of the students, saw a construction vehicle and verbalized it for the first time outside of the instructional setting.

Thank you again and we really appreciate your support in our project. These materials will continue to help the students for many years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brooks

  • Kids with Autism Just Want to Talk!

    Funded Dec 16, 2009

We were so thrilled to be able to receive the itouch through your generous donations. My principal bought the proloquo2Go application for it and we are able to use this new technology to help my non-verbal or low-verbal students to be able to greet, ask questions or tell about their day.

I teach in a high poverty school and parents cannot afford to buy this type of device. We sometimes can get "loaner" communication devices from our district, but these are large, heavy and are difficult for the child to carry. The itouch device is so nice because it looks just like something that other kids may have and it speaks for the child who cannot talk for himself. I have used it on a trial basis for children who need help talking to their friends, family or teachers. I have been surprised how easily the children can learn to use it. It works very similar to the phones their parents have and is very easy to use. Most of the children who have used it can quickly access messages they want to say.

For the child who knows what he wants to say but is unable to intelligibly tell people, this is an excellent method for communicating. I am so happy that you all could help my students! Thank you so much!!

  • Yoga In The Classroom

    Funded Dec 13, 2009

It means so much to me that you chose to help fund my project! As a yoga teacher, I truly believe that it is important to teach students coping skills though mind/body awareness. My students seemed much more confident in their test taking skills after learning breathe techniques and stress management skills. Your donation was very handy during ISAT testing too! My students and I especially liked the book of yoga poems. Now my students ask for yoga breaks instead of candy! Hopefully, I can start an after school yoga club next year!”

  • Math Learning Centers

    Funded Dec 25, 2009

When I arrived at my class this year and looked at my test scores, I was a bit overwhelmed. Only around 50% of my students had passed the math test the previous year. Also, half of my students were native speakers of languages other than English. I had a big challenge ahead of me to get them excited about learning math!

I started by teaching math 90 minutes a day every day. All of the games you supplied made it much for fun for students to work on math. The students used the timers to study the times tables and chart their progress. The students used the white boards to do practice problems and share their work.

Over the year, their confidence has grown. We have improved from 50% passing to 70% passing the test, and the year is not yet over. Also, my class has one of the highest exceed rates in our school, with 24% of my students now scoring above the 75th percentile! I am very proud of them and very appreciative of all of your supplies!”

    Ms. Luria

  • Ride 'em Cowboy!

    Funded Dec 16, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. My students and I are so blessed that there are people out there that care enough about autism to donate to our cause!

My students love the bolster swing. Please check out the wonderful pictures we have submitted along with this thank-you letter. The swing comes equipped with a saddle and a rope to hold onto! I have a little boy that comes to my room everyday asking to ride on the special new swing. The deal we have is that he can ride on the swing while he is waiting for his bus to be called if he has had a good day. The only problem is getting him off when his bus is called !!

Thank you again! Devoting my professional career to working with children with autism is rewarding and I am so blessed to be doing something I love! I hope everyone has the opportunity to feel the same way about their job and the wonderful people that surround them!

    Your generosity means so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Igims

  • We Can Read... But Need Some Help!

    Funded Jan 7, 2010

After the students received the new literacy materials they were very excited to use all of them! We use the literacy pocket charts daily when we do our calendar. One of our pocket charts includes a question of the day, which helps to make our calendar time a little more interactive. The students are learning to answer in complete sentences, by answering these questions daily. We also have our letter pocket chart. Although we are in first grade, not all of the students know all of their letter sounds. This chart goes one letter at a time and everything on it focuses on that letter and the sound it makes. It is a great review for the students who already know this information, and a great helper for the students who don't.

The students also love the new games we have. We have played all of our bingo games, and each focused on a different reading skill (beginning sounds, short vowels and long vowels). We also love the matching games too. The students skills have improved so much since receiving all of these new literacy games and literacy pocket charts. We can't thank you enough for your donations. You have made a difference in these students lives!”

  • A Place to Sit

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

I feel fortunate that donors like you have chosen to donate to our classroom. The chairs that the students use for small group instruction and for independent work are now at an appropriate height for the students. We use the chairs daily. The students wrote about how they no longer feel small or like "babies". Most importantly, they wrote about how they are able to see their work better and how it is more equitable that everyone has the same chair.

With the budget shortfall that our district currently faces, our students would never have received this important resource. It has made a real difference to the students to know that there are people outside of the school community who care about their education.

Thank you for your significant impact in our classroom and our community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Macias-Fraser
