It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Help Create An Interactive Learning Community

    Funded Dec 13, 2010

I cannot thank you for the donation of supplies to my fourth grade classroom during the 2010-2011 school year. My students were not only able to work within small learning groups but learn through hands on material.

My students enjoyed working with the science labs the best. They were able to do an experiment and then follow-up with a lab report. When they weren't working on the science labs they were busy doing the social studies centers. With the social studies centers, they were able to play games and research on the Internet.

These resources you have given to my classroom, will be used for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Waddell

  • Books for Budding Environmentalists!

    Funded Dec 14, 2010

Thanks to everyone for donating a class set of Field Notes from a Catastrophe to our Environmental Science class! The students really enjoyed the challenge of reading college-level material. I think the students were really surprised to learn all drastic affects that climate change is having both man and nature.

They were shocked to learn how fast the glaciers in Greenland and Iceland are melting, how animals are migrating to new ecosystems, and how cities are in danger of being flooded by rising sea levels. These topics sparked some heated debates about our responsibility to protect our environment and brainstorming sessions on steps we can take to lessen our contribution to global warming.

We were all able to take away some big lessons from the book. Thanks again for your donation and for making this (and future) semesters memorable!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Morrison

  • "Mountain Movers" Need A Projector To See The World

    Funded Dec 13, 2010

This letter is a thank you for your generous donations that helped my class receive a projector. It has helped my students in many ways this semester. I've had more chances to plan interactive lessons, students can see images and video of the content we're learning, and I can model how to use the Internet to help with researching and writing.

Our school's budget has been limited because of the recession, and my class would not have had the ability to use the projector everyday. Sometimes learning moments are unplanned, and it's been fantastic to quickly show examples of content that I would not have been able to do if I had to check out one of the few projectors from the office.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Science Savvy

    Funded Dec 19, 2010

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom projects. Our students will benefit from all of the materials that were purchased using your donations. Our 5th graders now have environmental study cards so we can discuss and evaluate environmental concerns. We have a weather center and weather cards that we are going to use for our school's news broadcast every morning, and to use during our weather unit. They have also enjoyed the simple machines kit when were where studying forces and motion. The 4th graders enjoyed the healthy hurdles game and it helped me see if they understood the food pyramid and food groups. The 2nd and 3rd graders loved the body part models, we were able to look at models of the ear, eye, heart and brain. They loved every minute of it. I would just like to know how much we appreciate what you have done for us. I am very thankful and the students are thrilled with the materials. Thank you again!”

    Ms. N.

  • Science and Technology

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our science classroom. The students are thrilled with the cameras and have been using them almost every day. We will be able to record our trials and errors with experiments and create PowerPoint's of our information. A lot of our students have not used a camera before, they have only seen photos on their parents cell phones so it has been a unique and interesting time explaining how to use them.

Our 5th graders were building rollercoasters to show the affects of forces and motion on a marble, they were excited to document their findings with the cameras. Some of the groups actually figured out how to use the video function and took videos of their rollercoasters in action. They were able to use the documentation of the videos and pictures to explain the changes they made to their rollercoasters.

I know that these cameras will dramatically improve our science lab. Thank you again for your generous donations. My students are very excited and very thankful. We really appreciate you! ”

  • Learning to Love the Environment!

    Funded Dec 13, 2010

Seeing my students joy when receiving box after box full of new science supplies was an incredibly fun moment that I owe to your generosity. Thank you for allowing my students the opportunity to have exposure to a wide variety of Life Science supplies. My students are so passionate about science and love to dig their hands in, get dirty and explore new things. The first step in closing the achievement gap is to make children fall in love with learning. As a science teacher, I like to think there is no better way to make kids fall in love with school than through inquiry based science! Thank you for your generosity in blessing our science department with these new supplies! ”

  • A Soft, Whispery Voice: Vocal Cord Paralysis (Model)

    Funded Dec 22, 2010

The larynx model has arrived and it is ENORMOUS! My students were very quick to identify the vocal cords inside. They have used it to demonstrate how a paralyzed vocal cord leaves a gap for air to flow through, resulting in the typical airy voice I had after surgery in October. They have also become interested in comparing the insides of a human neck to those of a variety of animals; watch for a larynx dissection project, possibly involving a bit of butcher shop beef, coming up some time this spring!

Photographing middle school students holding a body part---even a plastic body part---can be a bit tricky. Although my students love our new larynx model, posing with it set them off into fits of giggles. Thank you for providing us with both a hands-on science prop and a much-needed dose of levity!

Thank you so much for supporting my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Livingstone

  • 21st Century Learning!

    Funded Dec 9, 2010

All I can say is, I don't know what to say! Except of course, THANK YOU for the very generous gift. I can think of a million fun ways to engage the students during this project with the incubator. I am so excited about teaching life science to my students next term. The children are exicted about watching the chicks grow and taking care of them. We have already found a safe home for the baby chicks with a family that raises chickens in Canton, Georgia. I would like you to know that it is citizens like you that make success possible for ALL children no matter what circumstances they hail from! You were so thoughtful to fund this project for my class-- especially such a grand one. Please know how much WE appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thomas

  • Well Color Me Impressed!

    Funded Dec 9, 2010

I am so grateful for your generosity. My students will be thrilled to be able to use these new art materials. I can't wait to see what they create.

Your funding will provide enough oil pastels for every student (704!) to be able to work with this exciting medium. I'm sure the drawings they make will be wonderful, creative, and bold. I will be able to teach them blending and shading and add another technique to their skill set.

It is generosity like yours that helps high need classrooms across the country achieve success. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cheek
