• Hearing the Difference

    Funded Dec 18, 2011

On behalf of the entire Osceola Middle School Band program and it's students, I would like to say we appreciate your support of our program and your love for music education. We have been using the digital recorder inside our classes and rehearsals each day. We have steadily been improving our playing and listening skills as we have used this tool.

Through your contribution our students have been able to get instant gratification for something they have created or completed. Many times students do not get this opportunity inside a rehearsal space, but because of you it is now possible.

Again, thank you all for your high level of support for the arts and music education in our schools. We will continue to grow as musicians through your generous gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bowen

  • New CD/Cassette Player. So we can get our GROOVE on!

    Funded Feb 2, 2011

I would like to start by saying that I am sorry it has taken me so long to write this letter. I just started working at a new school and reopened my account to start a new project and saw that I had uncompleted the package. So again, I am sorry.

Now, I want to share how much the CD player meant to my children at Lamar Reese. Before you were so kind in donating towards this purchase, my students were listening to music through one very small speaker and the CD player worked sometimes. I taught tap dance and it was very difficult to hear the music over their taps. After we received the system, we cranked up the music and had an awesome dance party!! It was so nice not to have to yell the counts over the music just so everyone would stay together. The CD player is still being used by the current teacher and I was sure to pass down how we acquired the system.

I just recently moved to the high school to teach dance and help get the program back on the solid ground. I am again back in the same situation but I know with the help of servant like you, I know I can give these kids everything they need to be successful. Who knows, I may be teaching the next Misty Copeland! Please continue to support public schools and the arts! THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ross

  • Singing And Swinging With Songs That Have Meaning

    Funded Sep 21, 2009

Wow! Thank you so much for supporting my music integration project. The CDs purchased with your donations are being put to use in kindergarten classrooms.

As lead elementary music teacher in for my school district, I help music teachers implement curriculum and think of new and innovative ways to teach musical concepts. I have also made it my mission, however, to help classroom teachers feel comfortable using music to teach academic concepts and skills. Our district science curriculum is great - it includes a great number of songs for teachers to use. I have been inviting students to record themselves singing and dancing and letting teachers who are embarrassed to sing use the recordings.

Your donations have helped me go a step farther! We are listening to songs and editing them so they are useful in other subjects. One of our best successes has been with the Signing Time CDs. We have been able to tweak the words of the songs and make them really applicable to what the kids are doing. It is wonderful!

Thanks for making our project possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Summa

  • Guitar Tune-Up!

    Funded Jan 12, 2012

Thank you for your support of the music program at our high school. Due to your overwhelming generosity, over 45 students at our school have enjoyed using state-of-the-art tuners in guitar classes at our school since 2012 began.

We are celebrating our third annual Daniel Pearl World Music Day (a worldwide celebration, www.danielpearlmusicdays.org) this October, and your donation of guitar tuners will significantly aid in the preparation and execution of this performance.

Thank you again for providing us with a classroom set of guitar tuners. The students are really enjoying them, and I am striving to give them the highest quality music education with their daily use in our classes.

We appreciate what you have shared with us so very much. ”

  • Green Art! Environmental Justice Themed Prints

    Funded Jan 30, 2012

Thank you so very much for your generous contribution to the Green Ink Environmental Print project!

As an art teacher with a modest budget, I try my best to provide quality programming for the elementary and middle school students that I serve. However, quality materials, such as professional printmaking supplies, are difficult to come by. With your incredible support, my sixth grade students had the unique experience to creating their own prints - some for the very first time!

As the last project of the school year, I thought they would most enjoy a printmaking project. The students collaborated in re-designing the Mexican card game Loteria using their own environment as their inspiration in order to bring about environmental awareness to others. First, the students reviewed statistics regarding the environmental impact that Los Angeles has in terms of water, waste, air and noise pollution. After reviewing symbolism, students were given themes and asked to develop an image as well as a caption for their Loteria card. Each student then drew and carved their final sketch on the eco-rubber plates and, finally, we inked (using green ink, of course) the rubber plates and printed our game!

My students were extremely grateful for this opportunity to work with materials that they have never worked with before. Furthermore, they were in amazement with the printmaking process and proud of their final artwork.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you”

  • Musical Infusion

    Funded Jan 13, 2012

My students and I are forever grateful for the life changing opportunity your generosity made possible through your donation of musical instruments and music books. It was a thrill to receive the recorders and music books for our 5th grade students. All 5th grade classes have enjoyed the discipline of learning to read music and to play their songs together in our music class. We continue to expand our knowledge and have fun with the learning.

The hallways of our school and the airwaves of the playground have echoed with songs and discoveries. Students look forward to class where they have the opportunity to share new discoveries as well as highlight their expertise with assigned songs.

Many students have shown initiative and forged ahead creating tunes of their own. Students now own their own instruments so they are able to practice at home. Personal ownership will allow them to continue exploring music in the future. Most students had never experienced reading musical notation or playing an instrument of any kind. Many of my students have expressed a desire to continue learning the recorder and expanding their musical prowess. Several have expressed a desire to play another instrument as well. As this experience expands musical horizons for these young people in the future, we will all remember you. ”

  • Music Room Drama: Learning Music Through Play

    Funded Mar 14, 2012

I can't tell you enough how grateful we are for your donation. We were able to get colorful ribbon rings, scarves, and a puppet for the song, "The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly." Last week the kindergarteners played a mirror game with the scarves while moving to the song, "Irish Tune From County Derry." It was beautiful. They were completely silent and focused for the entire duration of the song as they moved the scarves and mirrored each other. The first time I brought out the puppet, it was like a celebrity had come in the room. Now, the kids ask if we can sing the song every week!

I do not have a budget to buy new materials for the music classroom, and your donations allowed us to add color, expression, and a little fun to our curriculum.

Thanks so much from me and from the students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Maniaci

  • Power In Music!

    Funded Mar 13, 2012

We are so appreciative of your generosity towards our school. We have been able to use the batteries to power our keyboards, helping us learn basic piano skills. The students have been able to earn classic and folk songs from various cultures.

Due to the economic position of many of the families in our community, many of these students would never have had the opportunity to learn to play piano and read music without the power of these keyboards which you have donated towards. We are so glad that you have chosen our fine arts program to support and keep music going in our schools.”

  • CDs for Success

    Funded Dec 22, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donations! When the CDs arrived, we were so excited about their jewel-toned colors and hard cases! We got to work immediately making copies of the music for our state honor choir. They took their CD home, along with the honor choir music, and they practiced, practiced, PRACTICED! Eighteen students auditioned for this honor choir, and an unprecedented three sixth grade students were selected.

Because of budget cuts in our school district, the middle school vocal music position is being covered by the elementary teacher and the high school teacher. This spreads both of our time so thin, we are limited with how much actual time we can spend preparing the students with these honor choirs. The CDs helped them to learn the music so much quicker. We can't thank you enough for your donation for this worthy project!”

  • Your Own Best Secret Place

    Funded Dec 16, 2011

I can't thank all of you enough for your help and generosity in assisting to secure funding for my students' painting project Your Own Best Secret Place. They're making paintings of the places in their lives where they can get away from everything and have a little piece of mind. I want them to look at the parts of their lives that shape who they are and who they'll become. I want them to look at their lives as if it were under a microscope, all the little pieces at a time.

The drawing supplies, paints, and canvases that your donations funded are being put to good use. The paintings my students are working on will be part of an exhibition of their work that will open on June 2nd at a gallery called Human Resources in Chinatown. The students are very excited about paintings they are making and are eagerly preparing for their art show.

This is the second year I've taught an art class and these kids are blowing my mind. Sixth grade is such a great time for them to have an art class because they're not so concerned with 'being cool' yet that they will still take chances in expressing their thoughts, ideas, and experiences. I'm trying to get them to see the possibilities in themselves that they don't know exist yet.

Without donors like you, this project couldn't have happened.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Roeder
