  • My Students Will "C" Their Music

    Funded Jul 29, 2010

I can not fully express my gratitude and thanks for your donation to my project! It is wonderful to see that others share my vision of music education. In music it is sometimes difficult for students to learn a new musical language.

The tools that you have funded will allow students to create and interpret the written language of music. My students will learn notes, rests, and other symbols in order to create music and allow them to express themselves with music. In addition, I will be able to demonstrate musical organization and make sure that everyone understands where I am on the page.

I will share my teaching with my colleagues as my students love to show off what they have learned with other teachers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. O.

  • Keyboards for Kids!

    Funded Sep 11, 2009

I can't thank you enough for donating this keyboard lab to my classroom. In the few short months since the lab has been up and running, my classroom has been transformed. I have never seen my students so enthusiastic about music. The students are having such fun and are learning so much!

One of the great things about this lab is that I am able to construct lessons to meet students' individual needs. I am able to teach a brief lesson at the beginning of the class, and then students go to their keyboards to practice the skills learned. Students who are having trouble can receive one on one help from me, as I am able to demonstrate and coach them using the headphone and microphone system. Students who master the basic skills can move on to more challenging pieces. It's impossible to be bored! The students are having such fun and are learning so much!

Bringing this keyboard lab to my classroom is something that I have known for years would excite and engage all learners. Without your generosity, I would not have been able to bring such a useful tool into the classroom. My students and I are so grateful for this lab.”

  • Can I "Please" Borrow A Keyboard????

    Funded Oct 19, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our class project. Your donation have had an immediate impact on the learning of my students. We were able to purchase two keyboards that my students are able to borrow from our music department. Students have used the keyboards to complete music related homework and compose music. The keyboards actually came with computer software that my students could use to record and write music. This project has been very successful in getting much needed resources to our low income students. Students without the resources at home were able to borrow the keyboards and take advantage of the many benefits that having a keyboard at home brings. We are looking forward to using the keyboards for many years to come. Thank you for funding and participating in music education. You have been a great encouragement to my students.

  • Instrument Fun!

    Funded Aug 26, 2009

Thank you so much for your kind donation to our music classroom. Our students truly love this instrument and already have had the opportunity to present a concert for the entire school to hear this lovely instrument. It has a wonderful sound and compliments the other orff instruments we have in our class.

There are innumerable uses we have for this instrument and it is of high quality that will endure much use throughout the school year. The younger students get a real kick out of the size and sound and constantly want to touch it.

We really thank you for going out of your way to make this project happen for our school. People like you help inspire future generations through your generosity. Thank you so much for making my students smile with the gift you have rewarded them with. You have made a sacrifice towards their education and well being. We thank you again and again.”

    With gratitude,

  • How my class will get it's Groove Back!

    Funded Oct 14, 2009

Wow! The i-Pod Toch and docking station has brought life and love to my first grade class. When I introduced the music the students were totally amazed and in awe of the music I was having them listen to.

I began using the i-Pod Touch as a way of introducing music and feelings. We have listened to "November Rain" and "L-O-V-E." They enjoy listening to the different styles, musical arrangement, and instruments. My students draw pictures of how the music makes them feel. They are then allowed to share their pictures and discuss their feelings. The insight from listening to them share their pictures is rewarding and truly needed. My students open up about their lives and feelings in no other way I have ever imagined.

I have started to introduce The Beatles to them and they love the different songs. We are currently practicing "Here Comes the Sun" for a morning assembly. Their favorite thing is learning about the different Beatles and who they were. Many of my students have heard the Beatles' songs that I am introducing on the video game Guitar Hero, but have not been told the history of the musicians. The i-Pod Touch has brought not only music to our room, but also music history.

We also enjoy marching around with lummi sticks and dancing. We have definitely gotten our groove back. Thank you so much! You are all amazing!”

  • Karaoke will help kids learn to read!

    Funded Sep 28, 2009

I want to thank you for your kind contribution to help my school receive a Karaoke machine. Not only are my students benefiting from a fun social lunch club, but other students at the school are joining us as well. A few of my students were very exciting about the Karaoke Club and I have been able to use it as an incentive for them to get homework done and follow classroom rules. In addition, I have noticed it can be challenging for them to follow the words on the screen, which indicates to me they need to work on their reading fluency. The Karaoke Club is one way to really motivate students to work on their reading skills in a social environment. With more practice their reading will start to improve and well as fear of public speaking.

With all the budget cuts public education is faced with, your donation has made it possible to have a fun club at our school that is also helping students improve their reading skills. Thank you for assisting a teacher who is trying to bring some fun back to the classroom.”

  • Crafty Kids

    Funded Aug 11, 2009

Our Cricut Expression has been a great and fun tool for our classroom. We have recently started adding our new words to our word wall using the Cricut. The kids love to use it and I really think that they pay more attention to the word wall because of this tool. We will use it more often for crafts and other projects also. As a teacher, it is also a great tool to make things for bulletin boards and things of that nature. It makes projects look very creative and catches people interest. Thanks so much for all of the donations. We really appreciate all that you have given us. &nbsp”

  • Bringing Lincoln Journalism up to Speed

    Funded Sep 21, 2009

Thank you all so much for your generosity. Your contributions to my journalism class will strengthen the quality of the class and enhance the value of our newspaper.

The text books that you have helped purchase are top-notch and are actually entertaining to read. I look forward to using them instead of innumerable handouts.

Once again, thank you for your donations. A contribution to student journalism strengthens not only reporting, but the quality of dialog between members of the lager school community.”

  • A Story, A Story, Please Tell Us A Story!!!

    Funded Sep 1, 2009

The children in my classroom love to listen to stories read aloud and have become very proficient in retelling those stories after listening to them several times. The materials from this project have allowed me to model another way for them to engage in storytelling. Not only can I read the story and show the pictures, I can retell the story using the storytelling kits. This has sparked a new interest for them.

After modeling a story several times, the children are able to use the kits with the storytelling prompts and tell the story to their partner or small group. They have also started using the prompts to make up stories of their own, which they then add to their writing journal.

We are even working on making new storytelling kits for other books we have (as well as stories they have written themselves) so that we can add those to our storytelling collection.

The teaching easel also has a magnetic dry erase board, which we use in a variety of ways. We use magnetic letters to match pictures showing beginning or ending sounds, or to build familiar words; we match pictures of rhyming words; and we have several magnetic game boards that the children can use on the easel during literacy center time.

These materials have opened doors to new and exciting ways for my children to learn new things on their journey through this first year of formal education. We are all grateful for your support and generosity as we discover the joy of learning. ”

  • Reluctant Readers Need Inspired!

    Funded Sep 10, 2009

Thank you very much for your gracious, kind gift of contributing to my reluctant readers! We have been reading the books and the students love the particular books provided by your generosity! Teenage students tend to be hesitant to read, therefore, it is vital that they are introduced to inspiring novels which they can relate to their personal lives. As a teacher, it a very meaningful, moving moment to see reluctant readers engaged in literature. Several of the students have commented on how much they are enjoying these novels. One student admitted that it matters what genre you read. He actually said that reading is not so bad! Isn't that amazing? I cannot express my overwhelming appreciate for you and your desire to help young people read. It means the world to me and to my students. Thank you and God bless you for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bennett
