  • Silk From Woodchips Part 1

    Funded Mar 16, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation toward the materials for our silk screening lab. The silk screening lab helped our students make their own t-shirts for various groups in the school Students in class were able to print something on the printer and turn it into their own personal t-shirt.

With the materials you enabled us to get the students brought something from the computer to a real life tangible product!

The screen printing lab was a good fit in our old "wood shop" area. Students found a value in this extra classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. H.

  • Assistance for Aspiring Actors and Poets

    Funded Mar 23, 2010

I would like to thank you all very much for making such a big difference in my students educational experience. Since we received the camera, the students have been able to record and analyze their performances. I have also witnessed shy students on stage come out of their shell on film. They are excited to see themselves on video and work very hard to improve their performances. Another plus to having a camera is that the students have also learned about video production. They recorded two videos this semester and plan on recording a movie or documentary. The inspiration and ideas have been endless.

Thank you again for motivating and inspiring my students. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Arias

  • We're Flipping for Books

    Funded Dec 23, 2010

Please accept my gratitude for your generous donation of a Flip Camera for our school. We've been using the camera daily to create video booktalks, political commercials, record and review mime productions, and school projects that are used in online technology tools. Our students have learned about creative works, ethical use of technology, privacy, and have been able to showcase their learning to their peers. The camera has also allowed teachers to record and review their teaching for reflection and professional development.

New technology resources can be expensive and there never seem to be enough of them available to our students and staff. Your donation has provided another tool that all students and staff are excited to use and showcase their learning.

Without donors like you, we would have to go without!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Inhelder

  • Creating A Deeper Understanding Of Fractions

    Funded Oct 1, 2010

Thank you for your contributions to this project to help my students. The Cuisenaire rods have been a great tool for my classroom. It has helped students have hands on experience with fractions and understand more about how operations of fractions work. The students are doing so much more than memorizing a bunch of steps to get an answer. Along with teaching the new concepts, the rods are each a different length and help strengthen the students understanding of what fractions are. The students are excited about using the Cuisenaire rods and have gotten excited about fractions which has never happened before in my classroom. Thank you again for the contribution, and I would like you to know that I will be using these rods every year, so your contribution will be helping students for many years to come.”

  • Let's Create A Math Lab!

    Funded Dec 15, 2010

I am so excited about the changes that are happening in my classroom this year. When the year started, I was told that I would be teaching math this year. I love math, but I knew that it is a subject that most students dislike. I have had success in the past teaching math to my students, but to be responsible for two other groups of students. I wanted to be able to deliver instruction that fit the needs of each ability level. When I looked around my class, I decided that I needed more materials for individualized instruction and working in learning communities.

When I opened the boxes, I saw all the possibilities that would be opened up to my students this year. I had a great time sorting through the materials and developing sessions for each class. I know that having the new resources have helped my three classes with their mastery of objectives. They are able to use the centers and get extra help or practice without having the whole class relearn a concept. I see them become students who enjoy math and they don't fear it. They even talk about math with visitors to our classroom. I think that is amazing and your donations is making all of this happen. Thank you for the impact that you are having on my kids this year and for those kids in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Richardson

  • Teach Me, Please!

    Funded Dec 11, 2010

My classroom walls are covered with math concepts from the six strands. The new bulletin boards are great. Every concept that I am currently teaching is displayed around my class in bright, vibrant colors for them to see, touch, and use daily. I am delighted by the reaction that I have gotten from my students. They really enjoy using the interactive bulletin board displays on "No Worksheet Fridays". The boards are set up so that students can practice a concept that they feel they need more understanding with. The other materials are in learning communities for the students to use when they have "free time". They can go to a center and practice skills and concepts to improve their mastery. My students love using the different math dices to play time races. They practice their multiplication while they are building communication skills and sportsmanship.

Your donations and support of this project has helped to improve the overall look of my classroom. The students walk into a classroom that is bright and they are surrounded by math everywhere they look. I think that is wonderful and I love teaching and working with my students everyday and you are playing an important role in that happening. Thank you again for making this a reality.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Richardson

  • Huddle Up and Learn!

    Funded Dec 7, 2010

Wow! 20 new desks! I had this proposal sitting in my draft folder for more than a year. I thought that with everything that I had requested over the last three years that desks would be a little too much. But the support that I have received from donors in the past, gave me the courage to try. The new desks have changed the atmosphere in my room. The environment is more open to the students moving around the room. They really enjoy the new desks. They like the way they look and feel. They are sturdy and don't make noise when we move them around. Being able to make small groups using the design of the desks is a blessing. I can move between groups and still be able to monitor other areas. Other teachers and students come into my classroom to look and run their hands across the desks. I have had several students say that they have told their parents that they want to be in my room next year.

The new desks have given my students a sense of pride that they have something special that they need to take care of. They feel honored to have so many wonderful people to donate and give to them. I can't explain how wonderful it feels to walk in my room every morning and see the impact that others have made in my classroom. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Dreams are meant to be dreamed and angels are everywhere.”

    Mrs. Richardson

  • Panasonic To The Rescue. Part 2

    Funded Aug 19, 2010

Thank you all for funding this project and providing my students with toner cartridges that will keep our printer going through the rest of the year.

My students biggest obstacle to completing work assignments on time is the inability to print the projects at home. Thanks to very generous donors like yourselves, we were granted a printer/copier. Your donations completed the project. Now my students can work on their projects with the knowledge that they have printing options thanks to you.

This printer along with the toner will also enable me to provide my students with review sheets, diagrams and charts, and study guides that will help them succeed in school. I cannot thank you enough for your support.

On behalf of myself and all of my students, I thank you most sincerely.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rodgers

  • Panasonic To The Rescue. Part 1

    Funded Aug 19, 2010

Thank you all for funding this project and providing my students with a printer/copier.

The presence of such a machine in our classroom will allow my students the opportunity to complete assignments, homework, labs and classwork while in school. They will no longer have to worry about having a working printer, or ink at home. In these trying times, it is often a choice between food and rent, or school supplies- the latter comes in a poor second.

Thank you for supporting my students and public education in New York City. Your gift will surely make a lasting impression our our students. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rodgers

  • Caught in a Web

    Funded Nov 24, 2010

Thank you very much for your donation to our classroom project! My students are very excited to use the web cam and microphones to tell about the things they are learning in class. A voice thread was our first project using the new items you helped us purchase and I only wish you could have watched the student's faces as they worked on this project! They were so enthused to publish the voice thread on our classroom blog so their parents could view it as well. We are currently using the microphones for student groups to narrate books they have written and illustrated on the computer. They will share these books with the rest of the class and with some Kindergarten classrooms. The eagerness I see in their faces and actions as they prepare their materials for these projects is priceless. They are using so many skills learned in their first grade year to produce these projects; writing, working cooperatively in small groups, and reading lots of nonfiction books.

The budget shortfalls in our district would never have allowed me to purchase the web cam and microphones for our classroom. Thank again for your generosity to my classroom and to so many other schools across the country!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Adam
