  • DANCE2! Dancing Absolutely Necessary for Children's Education

    Funded Jan 7, 2011

You cannot imagine how important this is to us!! We are stunned by your generosity and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the recognition that dance is important to our children! In these challenging times you have sent a powerful message that the arts are relevant to our lives and are crucial to a well rounded education.

We were resigned to the possibility of losing this program (and we have been dancing with The Joyce for 23 years!) with great sadness. Then word came that we were funded. It was uplifting and if only you could have heard the cheers of the students! The feeling of jubilation is infectious and sorely needed these days. You have made that happen and the contribution of dance is one whose impact is lifelong.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Words are truly inadequate to express the joy we feel at being able to express ourselves through dance. We can truly "ReJoyce!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alperstein

  • From Hip-Hoping to Salsa and Everything in Between

    Funded Aug 20, 2010

I would like to thank all the donors that contributed to my class project with the Nano Touch Ipod. I started this dance program six years ago with very little equipment. The Ipod has definitely enhanced how I teach my class. It saves so much time in changing music while teaching. With this Ipod I have the ability to save music for future references. I have also saved a lot of money on purchasing and burning CDs.

I have created a tremendous collection which I intend to continue to build in order to serve future students. I cannot thank you enough for your donation and how important it is to my students to feel appreciated. Your donations have helped my classes achieve their goals in a more timely manner.

Thank you once again for your generosity and for helping my students who have a strong desire to succeed in life. I hope you continue with your donations to help many other students who I am sure will benefit from your generous actions. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Johnson

  • I Want To Play Trombone, But My Parents Can't Afford It!!!

    Funded Oct 17, 2010

Thank-you so much for your generosity towards my students and my music program at my school. We are a low income school and the current unemployment rate has hit our students' families very hard. This trombone came just in time.  One of my young students was struggling to move the slide quick enough to play the new faster music.  (Eighth notes)  I stopped by to see the problem... and unfortunately her trombone slide was rusted!  The trombone she was playing on was about 30 years old and had been used by many students.  I tried to get it sanded down, but the rust was too bad!  Your donation is allowing her to continue playing, and she is doing great with her brand new trombone!

Please continue to support this wonderful website in helping deliver needed resources to our countries schools. The donations from people like you have greatly impacted my teaching on a daily basis. My school cannot afford to give me a budget to supply instruments, music, or repairs. Everything I do is through fund-raising at my school, grants, and this wonderful website”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jazo

  • Music to Our Ears

    Funded Oct 1, 2010

By funding this project, I have been able to get my children actively engaged in learning. They enjoy singing and dancing to educational tunes. My ESOL students have been able to make connections between the music and English Language Arts skills.

Having the IPod and docking system as made it much easier for me to organize the music into categories which is easier to access rather than thumbing through and loading CDs. Being able to do this has helped transitions also because I'm not limited to staying near the computer to switch or turn off the music, I can easily do so with the use of the remote control.

I can not thank you enough for supporting the educational system with your contributions.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Shepard

  • Kindergarten - Extreme Makeover

    Funded Oct 5, 2010

My students and I are very happy to have a beautiful rug in our classroom. Our rug has the alphabet, shapes and patterns on it. We enjoy playing fun learning games with it.

This generous donation has given my students a life learning message of kindness, giving, and sharing. It has led the way to writing our first thank you letter.

Mostly, it provides a space for us to dance, sing, read and learn. We mostly enjoy learning new songs and poems and then creating movements that relate to our songs and poems. We are fortunate to have people like yourselves in our lives. Each of you has made a positive impact in our learning environment. We will always remember your kindness and giving nature.

We truly thank you for your generous donations, and for making our classroom a wonderful place to come and learn.”

  • Help My School Create a Piano Studio (#1)

    Funded Aug 25, 2010

Since I wrote my application for the new keyboards, we have succeeded in creating four piano classes of ninth graders and one guitar class (10th grade) which also uses the pianos to learn music theory. With your kind donation we have purchased three new Yamaha keyboards.

As I expected, my classes are more efficient and focused because EVERY student is able to play. In the photos you can see, from top left, Marienelli, Kiana and Noemi playing the new pianos, and myself teaching a class how to play the chords to a "C" blues (Ike and Tina Turner's "Three O'Clock in the Morning Blues.") In that photo, a new Yamaha PSR 223 keyboard is in the foreground. Please note that Marienelli, Kiana, Noemi (top row) and Victor, Angie and Danny (bottom row, also playing "C Blues" on the new keyboards) all wrote you letters to express their appreciation. I've created a challenging list of tasks for the students this semester, including reading Alfred's Adult Piano book #1, solfege and interval identification on the keyboards, writing their own song or version of familiar songs like "La Bamba" and "When the Saints Go Marching In" with left hand chords and right hand melodies. Students will also play in small group ensembles, and those with the most creative original compositions or improvisation skills will perform at our Spring Concerts.

To achieve in these endeavors, it's absolutely crucial that students have ample time on the keyboards to learn scales and intervals and connect the sounds to what they hear as they attempt to create their own music as improvisation or compositions. That's why your donation is so important.

It's hard for me to fully express my gratitude to you: let me just say that you embody the idea that we're all connected, and you have become part of our community by contributing to the musical growth of these students. Once again, many many thanks from myself and my students. Yours truly, Colin P ”

  • Just the Right Tone

    Funded Sep 21, 2010

Thank you so much for funding our project! My kids are so excited about the recorders! It amazes me how much music they have learned and how many notes they can read! We are learning the value of music!

This has been a great resource for us to use during our music time as well as when we have extra time during the day. The students have been working hard to be allowed to play music more often. This is a wonderful way for them to build their listening skills.

You are a wonderful member of our society. I cannot tell you how much the students have benefited from these resources. I truly appreciate your generosity!! ”

  • Help Our Students Learn To Read Without Boring Textbooks!

    Funded Jul 27, 2010

I wish I could personally thank each and every person for his or her generous donations to my project. Words are unfortunately an inadequate means of fully expressing my sincere gratitude. I am extremely excited and encouraged to see so many people value reading and share my vision.

With these picture books, my students' whole reading curriculum will change by implementing the Reading Workshop. They will be taught comprehension skills through the use of picture books. They will learn standard-based lessons covering point of view, theme, visualizing, predicting, inferring, summarizing, questioning, etc using an actual author's work. Their lessons will become interactive, think-aloud lessons that will engage students and improve comprehension. Our main focus it to keep the students interested in reading during this crucial period. Your donations will dramatically increase my students exposure to great authors they may otherwise not have read. Reading can inspire children to accomplish so many things!

Thank you again for the gracious outpouring of donations for my class. I am certain my excitement will be shared by my class as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lynch

  • Let's All March to a Different Drum!

    Funded Aug 16, 2010

Thank you so much for your support for our project! With all your help, our project has been fully funded, and we are now on our way to fulfilling the goal of having enough instruments for every student.

This project has been focused on obtaining drums to complete our ensemble. Thanks to your contribution, a new drum voice has been added - the alto voice. Because we have this new equipment, we can now begin to work on more complex rhythmic patterns and groove patterns. Using these materials in collaboration with both community building drum circles AND musical ensembles, the equipment purchased will surely have a great impact on my students. It will help us produce great musicians and team players alike!”

  • Science Enrichment

    Funded Jul 27, 2010

Thank you for generosity and contribution to our school and our students. We have used the materials in several different activities. The pictures that were sent are from a Saturday School activity in which the students evaluated evidence to solve a pretend crime at our school. One part of the evidence was Blood drops and the students had to determine the height that the blood was dropped from. Students had to evaluate fingerprints that were left at the scene. Students had to problem solve and work as a team to identify the preparator. The students enjoyed themselves and learned from the process. These ideas and plans come from one book that was funded by you. Models of plant and animal cells, a solar system and a skull were also supplied by your donation. These models are used on a regular basis that helps student understand the concept. We also discuss the limitation of each model to help develop critical thinking.

Again, thank you for your generosity to my classroom!”
