  • Dance, Dance, Revolution!

    Funded Apr 23, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students have thoroughly enjoyed having more music in our classroom, and they love having the ability to control it themselves. The music center has become the place to go at Choice Time, and many inside recesses have become much more enjoyable!

The kids have learned many new vocabulary words, rhymes, letter sounds, even how to spell color words from listening to the songs, and have enjoyed every minute. They are also getting valuable time learning to use and understand current technology, a skill that every 21st century student needs! We also love to use the music during inside recess - during the cold winter months the students aren't able to go outside as often, so we are able to get some vigorous gross motor time inside just by dancing!

As with many districts, ours is currently downsizing the budget. Without your generosity, we would not have been able to provide this kind of music and technology integration in my classroom! I know it will be enjoyed for many years to come! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Peterson

  • The Science of Health

    Funded Jul 29, 2010

This letter cannot adequately convey my appreciation for your generous donations to this project. The lab kits you purchased (Exploring the Brain, Food Digestion, and Food Nutrient Analysis) were a great addition to our Health classroom activities. They added a higher dimension of exploration than reading books and group discussions on the topics. The students were able to actually see, chemically, how foods are digested, and how to determine the nutrient content in food!

As are many schools, our division is facing constant budget cuts. So, without your financial help, my students would not have been exposed to this level of education.

Thank you, again, for your donations to this project, and similar others. It's all for our students! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rook

  • Rock the House

    Funded May 14, 2010

First I would like to once again say THANK YOU so much! My students have been thoroughly enjoying these wonderful DVD's. They have definitely been dancing and learning to the rhythm of the songs on the DVD's. Since receiving the DVD's students have been taking periodic timed multiplication tests, I must say I have definitely been seeing an increase in their grades! The DVD's have become a wonderful activity during inside recess due to the very hot weather and sometimes rainy days. We once again say thank you so much, this letter could never portray how grateful we are!

    Sincerely,

    A THANKFUL 5th Grade Class ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Murphy

  • Do The Dance! Science and Math Sha Na Na

    Funded May 27, 2010

This has been an exciting year in second grade. We used the math and science tools to do great projects and team activities. I cannot say enough how wonderful these donations made to my class. We are still so excited by the wonderful educational materials. You truly placed smiles onto all of my children's faces. These items will be used for many years. The impact you made is great and will improve the lives of my students. Thank you for taking the time to donate to such an awesome project.”

    With gratitude,

  • Honoring Musical Legends

    Funded Mar 25, 2010

Thank you so much for your donation of a djembe and an udu for use by my students. These are instruments not commonly used in school, so first of all, the students were so curious and thrilled to have access to musical instruments such as these.

One student was so inspired that he went online and searched to learn more about the udu. In this process he also saw and then heard a digeridoo, loved it and used his allowance to buy one. We used the digeridoo (although it was much harder to play than he had anticipated), the djembe and the udu to accompany a song sung by students, for the school earth day celebration. We stressed the fact that these instruments are made from natural earth products, and talked about the craftsmanship required to create each one. I also gave the students in our Special Education class the opportunity to play the instruments after instruction with me. They were shy at first, but then I had to tell them to give someone else a chance to play. One girl said, "Wow! I want one of these!" I noticed that the girls were just as excited as the boys.

Your generosity is deeply appreciated. Budget cuts always seem to go for the throat of the arts programs in schools first. Without people like you to inspire and support us, the children would be at a great loss. Please keep on doing what you do. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gathers

  • Special Education Students are Beautiful Too!

    Funded Feb 18, 2010

I would like to thank you all for the kind donations that helped us acquire our Flip Video Camera. We have already had such a great time recording our performances and class trips with it. I have also been able to make videos reviewing literacy components of our daily routine that I have made DVD's with to send home with the kids for summer review.

Your donation is a true testament to the saying, 'a little can go a long way.' Your donations collectively have brought many moments of joy to our classroom and will continue to aid in the learning of my Students with Disabilities for years to come.

    Be the change....”

  • Music In Our Lives.

    Funded Mar 11, 2010

We want to thank all of you, our donors, for your tremendous gift. My students were thrilled to see all the new instruments that we received, they want to use them everyday.

My students have difficultly expressing themselves and by the use of the instruments you all have donated they are able to express themselves by the use of playing an instrument. They love to play the instruments along with songs that tell them what to do, this is a great way to get them to follow directions. They have learned so much from these instruments.

Again, thank you all so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lopez-Somarriba

  • Ukes for Youth

    Funded Oct 8, 2009

A question asked by a child in every class using the ukes (10 classes in 3rd, 4th, 5th grade) was, Why did they give us the ukuleles? I explained it was because all who donated know the importance of music education, and they really wanted you to have an opportunity to learn a string instrument.

The children absolutely loved the ukuleles, even in classes where we didn't get much further than tuning. The tuning, in and of itself, was quite a listening and learning experience, both for the children and this teacher. I have to confess, at times it was a bit like herding cats. (This summer I'm going to restring the ukuleles with better quality strings so they hold their tune better.)

We also used the ukuleles in an after school instrumental club, where we made more progress than in the classes because I only had twelve students. I had a tough year physically, due to a slip-and-fall on black ice and wasn't able to accomplish as much as I'd hoped. Because I was using a cane/crutches/walker, I had a classroom teacher take pictures of the instrumental group with one of the school's flip cameras. Unfortunately, they got deleted by another teacher.

The photos are limited to three talented children in the club who wanted to sing and play the ukuleles for the annual school talent show on May 27. As you can see, these girls were very focused and had a lot of fun, as did I.

I am very appreciative of your generosity, as are the children. The ukuleles were a big hit -- all the students want their own ukuleles! I'm really looking forward to using them again next year with better strings and better physical mobility on my part. I know when the intermediate grades walk into music class in August, one of the first questions will be, When are we going to play the ukuleles?

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hilleman

  • A Choreographer For Dancing Feet Would Sure Be Sweet!

    Funded Jan 29, 2010

How can I thank you enough for your generous gift? You have given the students in my Choir the opportunity to experience working with a choreographer. This is the fourth year that Melissa has worked with my Choir, and you would not believe how excited the students are about what they have learned. More importantly, they are quite proud of their accomplishments!

Our choreographer met with the Choir several times to teach them the choreography she created for some of our songs: "Proud Mary," "Thriller," "Rockin' Robin," and a ten minute Motown medley.

With several of the songs, the girls and boys learned different movements. My students absolutely loved working with her! She had high expectations and demanded hard work from each one. Not only did she teach them the movement, but she also emphasized the importance of being a good performer: having eye contact with the audience, having good facial expressions, and being professional throughout the performance.

This was an incredible experience for me too. I watched as each week some of my uncoordinated students steadily improved! Every student took this experience seriously, and they are ready for their performances. Not only did the students practice with Melissa, but they gave up recess time to come practice with me so that they could polish what they had been taught.

The smiles on the faces of my students tell it all! They are excited, they love singing and dancing to the choir songs, and they feel like they are on Broadway! I think you would be amazed with their accomplishments! Again, thank you so much for giving this opportunity to the members of the Choir. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Henry

  • Drawing Tablets for Future Designers

    Funded Sep 15, 2009

Thank you so very much for contributing to our acquisition of drawing tablets for the technology lab at our school!

So far, my students have been using the tablets to create rotoscoped self portraits using Photoshop and to create 3D designs using Google 3D Sketchup.

The tablets allow them to have greater drawing accuracy and better control over their computers. The quality of their work has become much more professional and I believe that the ability to use professional tools has greatly increased their confidence.

I have also had more students express an interest in studying digital media when they finish high school. Thank you for helping me realize my dream of providing real-world tools that give students the opportunity to explore possible future careers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Romney
