  • Learning Comes Alive Through Their Very Eyes!

    Funded Mar 23, 2010

I am writing to express my gratitude for your donation. My students received the video camera just last week and have found numerous ways to include the technology into the classroom.

During my students recent writing celebration they were able to record each others presentations and bring it home to share with their families. Most of their parents work two or three jobs and are unable to make it to the classroom to experience these wonderful moments so this was a true pleasure!

Students will continue to use the video camera to record books on tape, their holiday performances, and weekly shares. Students proficient in the English language will be able to record books on video for ESL learners. This will truly help to engage them and keep them growing as learners!

Your contribution has made such an impact in our classroom! We can't thank you enough for your generosity. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Newmark

  • Motion with Music!

    Funded Dec 6, 2009

I appreciate you all so much for your generous donations to my project. The CD player that was purchased is used every single day. We use it for aerobics, line dancing, and as a background for any physical education activity in the gym. It is utilized by all of my students, from Pre-K to 5th grade.

Our school district is currently facing a huge budget deficit, so without your help, my students would not have experienced this enhancement to their physical education and the constant battle against childhood obesity.

Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Burks

  • Impacting Lives through Visual Arts!

    Funded Oct 8, 2009

To say thank you seems small compared to the effect your donation has had on my students. The art supplies that you donated to them have done more then give them tools to create and learn with. We were able to explore new avenues in art and expand our understanding of expression in various forms or art that were previously unattainable to us.

School budgets are being cut deeply and the first resources that go are those that supply art programs. I was able to not only continue art education in my school but broaden it because of the generous donations I received. The theme for our school this year is "Invention and Exploration". The supplies we received allowed them to delve into areas of art that are not usually found in a school curriculum because we had the tools to do so.

The students were so creative in their pursuits that our school had the biggest and most successful student art show since its inception. My students have been prolific, so much so that we will be able to have an exceptionally large art show at the end of the school year. Another benefit from having these supplies has come from outside of the school. A local art gallery was impressed by what the students had created that he gave my students a month long display. Further the school district asked to have their work put up in the main offices.

I am extremely proud of what my students have achieved so far this year but it would not have been possible without your support. I am grateful for what has been given to "my kids". They are grateful that there are people out there who care enough to help them succeed in reaching their goals.

    With humble gratitude,

    Ms V.”

  • I Turn My Camera On

    Funded Oct 25, 2009

Thank you very much for your donations to my project! When I explained to the students that the new cameras came from people who had never met them, they were incredulous. One student wrote that you should be "awarded and praised" for your generosity, and I agree. You did a remarkable thing for these students, showing them that complete strangers care about them.

This is my school's first Yearbook Club, and I have been impressed with how seriously the students have taken their new responsibility. They want to truly document the important events of the year, not just take pictures of their friends. So far, the Yearbook students have used the new cameras to take pictures of a soccer game, our First Quarter Awards Ceremony, a field trip to the National Postal Museum, our school's pet snake and turtles, and a sleepover at the school. The kids are eager to take pictures of exciting lessons, the basketball team, upcoming dances and celebrations, as well as official pictures of each homeroom.

In the past couple of weeks, as we have begun editing our growing collection of photos, they have objectively evaluated the pictures, regardless of who is in them. For middle-schoolers, typically so self-centered, this is an impressive accomplishment. I wasn't sure what to expect as a first-time sponsor of Yearbook, so I am proud of how the students have stepped up to the challenge of producing a yearbook. It is invigorating to see how well kids respond when you give them ownership of a project.

Thank you again for your support. With our new cameras, I am confident that we will make our school's best yearbook yet!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Newmark

  • Some Basic Artistic School Supplies for Students in Need

    Funded Oct 23, 2009

Thank you so much for donating to these supplies. I cannot tell you how many times my students have come to me and told me that they would like to do the work but cannot due to lack of supplies. My students can and want to get good grades, and I know that with these supplies, they will excel.

When you see a student come to school on an exam day, and see them not want to take their exam or complete your notes out of embarrassment of not having supplies, it's heartbreaking. With your help though, I am confident this will never happen again in my class.

    Thank you,”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kleckner

  • Lights, Camera, Sing

    Funded Sep 6, 2009

I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your generous donation to our music program. Your donation of the sound system was overwhelming. This week was the first of many performances these students will give this year. They bring happiness and joy to all and perform for many different age levels/locations. From elementary schools to nursing homes, these kids love to sing and dance.

For our first big show choir tour of the season, it was so nice to have a sound system that can be used for performance in a rather large room. One of our performances was even in a big gymnasium. All of our soloists and the entire group could be heard from the back of the gym. As you can tell from our photos, the students really enjoy performing. The new sound system even holds more then 2 mics and plays a CD at the same time. It makes the kids sound just great!

Thank you so much for your contribution to our performing group.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. S.

  • Help Us Find Our Inner Spielberg!

    Funded Sep 10, 2009

Thank you so much for your generosity! Our Drama program is in the rebuilding stages after a 3 year hiatus due to budget cuts. We are slowly but surely expanding on the resources we have and DonorsChoose.org has been a huge part of that. The camera is a big motivator and it really gets the kids excited to learn and perform!

A few weeks ago we started using the video camera and what an amazing addition to our class! The students are so tickled to have the chance to see themselves on film. We filmed our class plays and scenes - so now 180 students have been able to see themselves in their very own movies. As a continuation of our study of movies, we are creating silent movies in conjunction with an upcoming movie night. This will allow parents and community members to see the successes of our students. So thank you for allowing this to happen.

And thinking ahead to the end of the semester, we have started to create a large collection of videos that will be put on a DVD for each student to keep. What a great memory for these students to have! Middle school is a hard time for so many kids and to have their performances on DVD to watch as a positive reminder of their successes is priceless.

I can't thank you enough for your kindness and support of the arts!  ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Whittaker

  • Listening Ears On!

    Funded Sep 1, 2009

The new listening center is a huge hit in my classroom! I have wanted to add to our listening library for a while now. You have made my dream a reality! The first day we got our books and CDs, we had to add it to our Reading Stations that afternoon. My students love having their own book to follow along to.

The listening center has improved their listening skills, as well as their comprehension skills. My students are able to retell the story they listened to. They are also able to identify the characters in the story and describe the character traits. The center is reinforcing concepts that we are learning about in whole group. Teachers need more people like you to help their classrooms succeed!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gargone
