  • Bring Back Science! Bring it to Life!

    Funded Nov 9, 2010

Thank you so much for the immense support you have shown my classroom by your generous donation! I could not tell you how much this means to my students and myself! There is no doubt that teaching science has been a struggle this year with the pressure of testing in math and language arts in our school. With the testing behind us, my students are even more excited than ever to dive into science. I could not express to you how inspiring it is to my students and myself to know that there are so many generous people out there striving to change the face of education.

With these interactive activities, my students engage in hands-on activities every single day without me having to run around locating equipment and spending massive amounts of money to buy them. The science kits and the prepared slides have made it easy and fun for me to plan lessons. To add, my students are so excited to use them - it is truly a gift! When my students were using the microscope slides, I walked around to observe and listen to the insights they were gaining. My students thanked me for teaching them science. While we know and believe wholeheartedly that science is a subject our students have a right to learn, our education structure as it currently stands is not set up to provide our students with science instruction in a meaningful and comprehensive manner. Every minute of science I can give my students is crucial - and they yearn for it. Thank you for feeding their thirst!”

  • "Music Charms the Soul"

    Funded Nov 9, 2010

Students in my classroom have had the opportunity to experience sounds they thought only existed in samples on the radio. The beat, the rhythm, and the small melodies they latch onto came to life in our music class. I appreciate your kindness and giving. It was one thing for the children to hear a song, play it, perform it together, but it was quite another thing to have them play independent parts as well. These instruments opened a door to independence. Learning on these instruments engages students in a manner that is not common place in our traditional core curriculum. I do hope that education reform will soon change the status quo and that our governing bodies will wise-up to how a lack in total-education is damaging our youth, our country, and our future place as leader in this world. Thank you for your support and caring. Music truly does charm the soul.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnston

  • Listen Up & Read

    Funded Nov 16, 2010

    Dear Donors,

I can't thank you enough for you generous donations for our listening center. My student's faces were priceless when I received these big boxes in my room and told them that we have received a listening center and new books on cd. Their excitement to use these centers is still as strong as it was from the first day. My 26 students utilize these listening centers every day and it has helped my struggling students want to read books and it has helped my stronger students become more engaged in rigorous books.

My wonderful first grade students would not have had the opportunity to choose from so many fun books and new ways to read without all of your help. You generosity in my classroom is greatly appreciated and my students thank you from the bottoms of their hearts.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bailey

  • Read and Return

    Funded Dec 11, 2009

I have now been giving books to the parents at my school for the last several months. The parents have expressed to me how grateful they are to have this resource. I give the parent a book that they read with their children When they have fully enjoyed the book, they return the book to me to be used by another family.

What makes this so nice for the parents is the ease in accessing the books. I am on a first name basis with many of the parents at the school, and they simply step into my office take a book and leave. With many of them having very busy schedules and/or young children, this saves them the time from going elsewhere for a book. It helps that my office is conveniently located off of the main lobby.

This year, I focused on reading books for students. Next year, I would like to focus on books that will help parents to help their children succeed in school.

Again thank you so much for the wonderful gift you have given to the parents of my school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Swann

  • Technology Enhances Learning in First Grade

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

Your generous donation to our class does not go unused. Everyday we use the projector. It is a very versatile item. We use it for our Promethean board activities. We projector literature books with it. This makes the print large enough for everyone to see. We use it for teaching math. Promethean planet has 1000's of usable flipcharts that let the students interact with math and math concepts. We use it to watch educational and quality family videos for instruction and for pleasure. We went on a fieldtrip to the aquarium. We created a video of our trip. We watched the video using the projector. My students are pleased everyday with every use of the projector. They love it as much as I do. Thank you and your families for the generous donation. It is a wonderful gift to a very active group of first graders.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ott

  • Expanding Cultural Understanding Through Art

    Funded Dec 15, 2009

Since receiving the LCD projector for my classroom, I have brought 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students on a visual trip to six of the seven continents. The 8th grade students have seen and learned about masks from the past and present created by different cultures all around the world. They are currently creating their own masks. The students are each making two masks. Each mask will show a different emotion. The 6th and 7th grade students have taken a journey through time, experiencing early to contemporary abstract art and portraiture from around the world. The art spans all the way from Native American art to Dutch, to contemporary art from Taiwan. Every project from now on will be able to be explored more deeply. The social, cultural, and aesthetic qualities will be investigated. Student work is already showing greater depth and meaning after viewing the way other people have created similar pieces of art. This is a very exciting time in my classroom. The students look forward to the topic of art history and have wonderful insights into the art of the past.

Thank you so much for your donation to help fund this project. You have truly helped a dream come alive. The students are excited every time they see the projector set up because they know that they will get to see something and experience artwork that they have never seen before. Visual learning is important in every subject. Art is certainly no exception. The visual process is critical to art and the information that I can present now leads to more enriching discussions as well as student artwork. I really can't thank all of you enough for helping to fund this project.

Thank you again for your help and donations in funding this project. You have truly made a big difference in the education of many students for years to come.

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
