Schools depend on their property tax base for revenue but with people out of work and homes being foreclosed upon, public schools are more underfunded than ever. I live and work in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina but we have public schools two miles from my lab that are having trouble providing opportunities to kids. Remember, these kids are our future scientists or, at the very least, citizens who understand the importance of science in daily life. One of the projects we've adopted here is to simply provide students with paper, pens, and pencils that they lack in their district. This is wrong; sick, even.
People helped me when I was a little kid (see my pic with PharmDad) become the scientist and professor I am today. Won't you help today's kids in need? If not here, perhaps on another blogger's challenge in an area of the country that resonates with you? The PharmFamily and I thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. hide
Words cannot express how thankful I am for your generosity. The donation of the school supplies was greatly appreciated. The students love how their binders help them with the organizational skills they need to be successful. The other school supplies has help the classroom out tremendously.
Due to the economic times, our students were able to be prepared for school without the worry of how they were going to get the supplies.Thank you for taking the burden off of them.”
I can't thank you enough for your thoughtfulness and generosity in donating to our school! Through your kindness, you have affected every one of our students.
This year was just the tip of the iceberg. We used our ipod for teaching various dances, warm-up music, music during games, and field days to name a few. The great part about it is that we can build on this for next year.
One feature about the ipod that I love is that it has a video camera built into it. I really look forward to streaming video and recording our classes and playing it through a computer, television, or projection screen.
The sky is the limit for my future lesson planning, and our students' PE classes. Once again, thank you very much and best wishes!”
I want to offer my gratitude towards you all. Your kindness is fully appreciated by my students and I. When I received the e-mail that this project was funded, I informed them right away, they were so excited.
My students can't wait to start working with the kits, especially the science kits. We barely have science materials, so this will benefit them greatly. They really enjoy hands-on materials. The math kit will be useful because it allows them to problem solve using real world applications.
Just to know there are people in the world like you gives me hope and warms my heart. It shows that education is considered important. Once again, thanks to you all and I wish you a happy holidays.”
With gratitude,

I cannot thank you all enough for your generous donation of the composition books for my 6th graders! One of our school goals this year is to integrate writing into all of the curricular strands, especially math and science. These composition books are a great resource for the students because they provide a place for the math students to take notes as well as write a daily journal entry summarizing the day's lesson. The kids then use the journals as a reference when they can't remember how to do a task we have already covered. I get so excited when I see them referencing their notes to solve a problem, it's exactly what I want them to do! Our science journals are great as well. The old spiral notebooks were all falling apart and so many of the kids have commented that the new composition books are so nice because the pages are sown in and don't tear out so easy.
Thank you all again for your help in this effort!”

Thank you so much for your very generous donation of the nutrient agar plates for our bacteria study. We just completed the project before the holiday break. Students were able to prepare their own bacteria plate with samples swabbed from common surfaces in the classroom. We left the plates to incubate over a long weekend break from school, and came back to find excellent colonies for the students to examine. Students not only learned about bacterial colony types, they also learned more about laboratory procedures that they will need to follow in higher grades.
What I love is that everyone had the opportunity to participate actively in this activity. Thanks to your help, there were enough materials for students to have their own bacteria plate and be able to work independently. Otherwise, we would have been working in groups, and many would have lost interest. Science is a subject that is best learned through hands-on activities, such as this one. Ever since the idea for this project came to me, I was hoping that it would be funded. When I found out that you had funded the proposal, I was so excited.
You have done so much for my students. I can tell that they really learned a lot about bacteria from this project, and it is an experience that many will not soon forget. I don't know how I can ever say "thanks" enough to express my appreciation of your kindness. I hope that the posted photos and student thank-you notes can give you some insight into how wonderful this experience has been. Thank you for making this possible.

Thank you so much for your donation. The students were very excited to receive the science items. They are having a blast exploring different science themes. Their favorite right now is the plant life cycle. They are enthusiastic about coming back from break because we are going to plant the bean plant and watch it grow.
In our schedule I am to teach reading comprehension in the morning. The students use to complain about how boring the reading passages were but now they are excited about the passages because they deal with science. They fully enjoy reading about science! Their comprehension is improving and they are learning more about their favorite subject. It has been hard to fit in science because it is not one of the tested subjects but thanks to you, it has been made possible.
Not only are you helping my class, you have helped four others. Thanks again for your generous donations! The students are really enjoying the items.”
The Science Kits have been an ideal way for the students to learn by doing. Each kit has all the materials
needed for easy, fun and educational experiments. We have discussed each kit and designated what part of the year we will use the kits in correlation with the N.C.Standard Course of Study.
We have just completed a Unit on Plants and Animals. We have many animals in our classroom and some plants. We are starting with the sprout and grow window. We have prepared the seeds following the directions on the kit and I can already see the excitement in the students. They have to check their seeds in the morning and they will begin to record what they see. They have already recorded what they want to learn about seed growth. Students have also added new words to their vocabulary;such as seed coats, germinate and botanists. The students are already familiar with the parts of a plant and now they are really excited about tracking the progress of their plant growth.
Thank-you for helping out these future scientist. ”

Thank you so much for your generous contribution. The carpet has made such a wonderful difference in our classroom. The students have enjoyed having the option of spreading out and being comfortable during carpet time as well as independent reading time.
The carpet is beautiful, it truly lightens up the room. It is hard for students to get into reading as it is, now they have so much room to move around and that helps them focus on what we are doing.
Thank you again for your wonderful gift, the students and myself are extremely grateful for people, like you, that care about the children.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bryan
