For the next four weeks, I will subject myself to public humiliation by growing what many on-lookers will hopefully identify as a "mustache."
I'm doing this for two reasons: 1) to support DonorsChoose.org and 2) to punish my upper lip (it knows what it did).
Please sponsor me and my mustache by choosing a classroom project below and making a donation of any amount.
Thank you so much to all of you who helped contributed to my project! It was a huge success and the students were thrilled at the opportunity. The Science Museum of Minnesota came to our school the day before winter break began. It was an amazing way to end 2012!
The younger students were fascinated as the presenter taught them about dinosaurs, using life size examples with lots of student participation. The older students had a thrilling experience learning about electricity.
This kind of access to a museum-quality presentation are few and far between for our students and they will remember it always.”
We can not thank you enough for your generation donations which helped us secure various leveled books for our book clubs. The hardest part about teaching students how to enjoy reading is ensuring you have multiple books (we needed an average of 6-8 of each level) which are also of high interest to the students. Through your generous donations, our students are excited when it is time for book clubs. We hear them discussing their predictions for the next chapter with their friends, which reassures us they are enjoying what they read.
As I sit to write this letter, I find myself at a loss for words, as I wonder how to truly thank kind donors like yourself for helping my students in such a major way. To say that I am in awe of your extreme generosity is putting it mildly.
I want you to know that from the day of completion, until the day the books arrived I was greeted daily, with questions of " Ms. Benson, are they here yet?", and "How much longer will it be?". Once the books arrived, I had to rush to get them out on the shelves as I was questioned multiple times a day with " When will they be leveled?" and " How many can I borrow at one time?". I hear these questions from my highest readers, as well as my most reluctant and I can't help but smile.
My class has been greatly touched by your kindness, and we are already leaning more every day, as we even began new book clubs this week. Please know that your donations are changing the lives of my students in new ways every day! Donors like you help classes like mine more than words could ever express. We will never forget how much you have helped us.”
Thank you so much for supporting our "Sprout & Sautee: Cooking and Gardening at The LAB" project!
We have been using the wonderful knife set for great cooking units with our students. In these cooking (and eating!) opportunities, our youth practice leadership, patience, and confidence, share about their lives, build community and find a sense of mastery.
We have been delving into the Wellness curriculum. Students have been learning about basic culinary skills, and considering what career options might be available to them in this realm.
Our gardening efforts will begin this spring, with warmer weather and thawed soil.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Pease
