  • Update our Library !

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Our entire library community was excited to see the upgrade to our circulation system. We are ever so grateful that there are still people out there that care about education, schools, libraries, and most importantly our students.

Our library is steadily becoming one of the central hubs of learning and enrichment on our school campus. The items bought through this project have helped move us farther into the 21st century, and allowed our patrons the opportunity to become more responsible for the resources they borrow.

We are grateful for the receipt printer and other items as they will be used throughout this school year and in the following years to come. This project has helped our library's present performance and will support its efficacy in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gray

  • Help Us to Enhance Our Learning

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Words cannot being to express how grateful I am for your generous gift. When the package came in, and the students saw the box, they were extremely excited. When I explained to them that I didn't buy the printer/copier but it was a gift from you they were ecstatic. I told them that you were generous because you wanted to see them succeed, and the expressions on their faces were priceless. To think that someone who they never met would care enough about them to donate a gift simply to help them be successful was something that made them so proud.

I have used the printer to make math minutes for the students daily. Math minutes are sheets where they have a minute to do 30-50 multiplication problems in one minute. My students struggled tremendously with multiplication prior to this. Once I was able to do this their skills sharpened. I saw their ability to do division was directly affected, and as a result they also improved with fractions and decimals. I am pleased to say that every single one of my students passed their state math test this year and I definitely think that having those daily drills helped. Bravo to you. I also was able to use the printer/scanner for reading drills, and art projects toward the end. Having this copier meant I no longer had to wait a week or two for the materials I needed to boos their learning. I could create my own materials on the spot. I could differentiate instruction according to their needs as well. If I'm teaching a lesson, and a student needs more assistance I can print that individual student work on the spot. Being able to do this has greatly increased the students levels of success.

I am so thankful for your selfless service. You didn't have to donate anything but you did. My class has excelled greatly because of your generosity. I will never forget your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Watkins

  • Leveled Library For Lively Learners!

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

On behalf of my entire class, I would like to extend our gratitude for your generous gift! The students were thrilled at the sight of all the new books that were now available for them in our classroom library. The leveled readers made it easier for students to learn how to choose a "just right" book, supporting their literacy skills and reading fluency. Many students now use our classroom library during their choice time, picking out a book that interests them, and settling in on a bean bag or under the umbrella leaf to read. Thank you again, for helping me to positively impact my students' lives!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Miraglia

  • Help Bronx Students Read These Books!

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Thank you so much for this donation of a variety of different books and genres! We have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed your donation for the second half of the school year. This work at perfectly, as it gave all my students plenty of time to read all the different ones that had an interest in. On a daily basis, our classroom library is rotating. Students are returning books and taking out new ones. As an educator, there is nothing better than seeing your own students excited about a book, telling their friends about it and then coming back for me. Our class this year has been truly blessed because of the donations we have received on here, and please accept all of our warmest wishes, and most humblest of thank yous. Have a wonderful summer!”

  • Independent Readers for the 21st Century

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous donation! My self contained students love using technology during independent reading time and feel so empowered by their Nooks. The way we use the Nooks are 1. as a reward for being diligent readers during our shared classroom reading. 2. to choose new, exciting books from the NYC Public Library. Because of their status as full-schedule self contained, my students are very sensitive to the quality of materials they get, often feeling that they don't get nice or new equipment in their learning. The fact that they have the only e-readers in the school has done so much for their self esteem and empowered them to choose books they love, make their own accommodations, and look up hard words in the dictionary instead of becoming confused. Thank you so much for your support in empowering our youth!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lynn

  • Rocking Read Aloud Books

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Thank you for funding my project "Rocking Read Aloud Books." My students were so excited to receive the new books. I have been doing many read alouds in class. The books have been great tools to use in order to model comprehension strategies. In addition, I have used the books as mentor texts to help improve my students' writing skills. It is great to have these resources handy for the students to read and refer to. My students have learned about different reading strategies such as visualization, making connections, drawing conclusions, asking questions and making predictions while reading. They are using these strategies when they read independently. Thank you for making a difference in my students' lives!”

  • Help Bronx Students Read The Last Dragonslayer!

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

What a unique and interesting new book we discovered! The Last Dragonslayer lived up to everything I had heard about it. It was extremely well written, challenging and wildly creative. All of these elements captured the imaginations of one of my literature classes, and introduction to Jasper Forde for many of my students. My literature classes were brought to life this year, as a result of all of the fantastic donations we received. It inspired my students and I cannot wait until next year so we can pick up where we left off!”

    With gratitude,

  • Take Home Fiction Leveled Library

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

I was so excited to learn you funded my project "Take Home Fiction Leveled Library." Reading is so crucial in a child's life. These books have made all the difference. I can't describe the excitement and joy my students had when they opened the boxes to find brand new books. Their excitement could not be contained when they learned they would be able to borrow the books to take home and read. When it is time to choose their take home reading book it always brings a smile to their face. My students' reading levels have increased because they read every night. This is because they have a book to read every night. These books have made all the difference in my students' lives. We appreciate your kindness and generosity. Thank you.”

  • Give South Bronx Students Amazing Books!

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Thank you so much for your wonderful gift to my classroom. Your donation has provided dozens of students in a high-need community with amazing books that they will treasure for life. Despite being in the tenth grade, for many of my students, this will be their first year to entirely read a book independently. Your gift, like many others before it, is what allows such small wonders to occur in my classroom.

My students live and go to school in the poorest Congressional district in the country. Outside of school, much of their life is chaotic and unpredictable. As a teacher, I have tried to make my classroom a space of consistency and tranquility. Much of what I do is to find books that ignite fires within their minds and souls. With your consistent support, my students will not only grow up literate, but also as compassionate citizens who have read and learned about many worlds.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chung

  • Add Technology To Our Classroom With A Tablet!

    Funded Jan 29, 2013

Thank you so much for bringing technology to our classroom with a tablet! My students were curious and excited when we received the tablet. Having had several opportunities to use it, they realize what a great addition it is to our classroom.

Having a tablet with Internet access and a camera has made it possible for students to take pictures of their projects and upload them to the class's web album. They are also able to quickly research specific topics if they are confused. I am also able to sit with small groups of students and clarify a concept they may be struggling with. A tablet has also made record keeping and lesson planning much more efficient and accessible. I can quickly create documents using Google Drive and record their progress on Engrade.

A tablet has impacted our learning in unexpected ways too. In advisory, my students enjoy reading to each other using the Kindle app. During field trips, students are excited to use the internet and applications such as tree and bird identification apps to learn more about their environment. The tablet even helped a student not fall behind in class when he broke his wrist. He used the tablet to read and take review quizzes using the touch screen.

We are thankful we have a tablet and look forward to discovering even more ways we can use the tablet in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lainez
